The official ARMA 2 Thread, Watch these Videos and join the Hype!

I refuse to play on servers that allow 3rd person, that console hack is not meant for real Arma.
Besides 3rd person view is af far as I remember only allowed on the n00b's settings...veteran and above disables it.

This is good to hear, I don't care about single player but multiplayer must have a level playing field.

What is your draw distance?

3000, its not a draw distance problem, I have a huge thread about it going on here http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=75328

this is whats going on people say

This is not a hardware issue. This problem is called z fighting, and it occurs because the graphics engine cant work out which polygons to draw first, because they are close together, so you get that flickering effect. I also get this problem and as it happens when you zoom in to buildings, trees etc etc it is down to the near and far clipping planes of the view. It commonly happens when yu may have your ground terrain mesh, and then maybe polygons overliad ontop of the ground plain with possibly a different texture, say some dirt or something (just as an example). As to why it only happens when you zoom in, it would probably be due to the same reason, but the distances between the two sets of polygons could be meteres apart rather than millimeteres due to the fact you are now looking at the polygons which are physically a mile away. In the video example what seems to be flickering the most arethe windows of the buildings, ans the z fighting is occuring between the geometry of the windows glass, and the interior room walls inside the building. Hope i made sense.

This cant be rectafied by us, Bohemia Interative needs to pop this on the ever increasing list of problems that they need to fix. My belief is that BI have shot them selves in the foot releasing the game in such a poor state long beore OFP2 is out. At the moment i am reluctant to carry on struggling to the play the game due bugs and performance issues. As such i may ditch it, and go to play OFP2 when it comes out as it is very unlikely OFP2 would be released in such a poor state.

You did give off that impression.

EDIT Zoobaby: Don't quote piracy talk!

That the M4A3 weighs like a bb gun, compared to other rifles.

So I weighed both of my ARs...
4.2 kilos for the M4
5.4 kilos for the LR-308 (that extra 1.2 makes a HUGE difference though)
Not really bb gun weight

FML I thought it was Thursday... GAH another day until I get to play :(

5.54 kg with optics (G3SG/1) no ammo for a real danish H&K G3A5.
Now pick up 8 motarbricks, that will simulate the clip/ammo load.
Then you just need to add the rest of the basis, uniform, helmet, vest, boots ect...

I am more than familiar with the weight of armor and ammo. I was simply proving that an M4 is not 'bb gun' weight.

The LR308 is more or less the same weight as a G3.

Crap i wish demo was out so i can see for myself how will E8400 and 8800GT handle this beauty on 24" screen. I was huge OFP fan, and after ARMA1 disappointment I'm glad they delivered again. Great job BIS, modding community will make this game even greater.

If Z fighting is the problem it might never be fixed unless they use a z buffer with more precision. I think they are 24 bit in most games. I'm not sure if you can use a z buffer greater than 24 bits with modern hardware.

I may be overlooking this or something.

Is this only available Digitally? (Digital Distribution: Steam, etc.)
or will this be sold in stores too? (ie. Frys, gamestop, walmart)

I am a steam supporter but I always get a hard copy if it is available first.

Gamestop on July 3rd, probably everywhere else too.

Steam release will be the first available for NA people, the retail will follow later.

Got another question for those who got the game, It looks like (from videos at least) that you fly solo in helicopter. And KA-52, and actually all of the gunships are a two-seat(er) (in the game), can you do some co-op gunship action in Multilayer like in BF2? Pilot is a pilot, gunner is a gunner?

Any one? :)

Three scenarios and an editable mission template are featured in the demo. Scenarios are accessible from the main menu’s Singleplayer > Scenarios section.

Trial by Fire – A marine assault team is inserted on the Utes island to capture an OPFOR base. To successfully complete this mission, advance together with the rest of your team, follow your orders and avoid being too brave.

Death Valley - Small mission to introduce and also teach you how to use the RTS/FPS blend mode for ArmA 2 - The Warfare mode.
In this large-scale battle, your objectives are to capture all strategic locations or destroy all structures on the enemy base in your area of operation.
It is recommended to play Team, High Command and Construction tutorials before you start playing this mission.

Benchmark - This scenario is an unplayable cinematic benchmark test that will help you determine the best setting for playing ArmA 2 on your computer or to compare your hardware. Average FPS is displayed at the end of this scenario.

Vlad, just as with the original ArmA, attack helos accommodates two person crew, one pilot, one gunner. Transport helos can transport troops and if they are equipped with door guns other people may crew those. Short answer: Yes.:D

The demo won't even install. I keep getting "unable to find setup01.bin blah blah blah" errors.

And the demo is part of the full game, yes?

btw just played the demo...the voice acting is amazingly horrid!

Gameplay is pretty wonky.

Definetly won't be buying that one.

Voice acting in these games (ARMA, Flashpoint) is ALWAYS horrid...It's part of the overall experience.

Did you play ARMA or Flashpoint? Why is the gameplay wonky?

Properly because it not CoD-style ;)

This was my thought but I figured I would wait for a response before going off as to why person X is uninformed.

looking at the pic above.

I see the standard gun still has the red dot which I hate horribly in games. It works in real life it just doesn't work in games for me for some reason. I can get quicker target acquisition with the peep sight, or even the AK style sight (name escapes me, leaf?) in ARMA/Flashpoint
