Sorry by the old lady-zombi . Maybe some there are in the thread , I see already some of my screens in the thread
*Major picture snip*
Please don't dont that again.
No one is trying to impress you (except DennisK4) either you like it or you don't, if you don't you move on and forget about the game, easy and simple. This thread is about Arma 2, not about bitching and whining...
should i put "roll eyes" smiley too?
I'm sorry but why is this game any different than Arma or OFP1?
OFP2 looks so much better, maybe I'm missing something.
Yeah, you are missing the game called "Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising"...it's not out.
What kind of vegetation would you expect? Totally polygonal? It seems as if this game runs poorly enough as it is -- I can't imagine how badly it'd run with really 'nice' vegetation.Funny how most of the screenshots lack up close shots of buildings and interiors or anything thats not just 100's of flat sprite based vegetation. I can't say I'm impressed
Hey! We use the right-side up question marks 'round here, mister!
Humm ¿ you talk about "in-game Cg" of Dragon RIsing and another fake screens and videos ?
Does this game REQUIRE a dual-core cpu? On steam minimum requirememts, it says: Processor: Dual Core CPU (Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz, Intel Core 2.0 GHz, AMD Athlon 3200+ or faster), but pentium 4 and amd athlon 3200+ are single-core...
All of these indoor shots are conjuring up old memories of hiding in buildings in OFP. They were often perfect ambush points against opposing soldiers and at least decent at providing protection against enemy tanks (though they were of course also easily destroyed by them).
Ahh...good times.

Besides which, the sprite stuff works. SpeedTree uses sprites; Crysis uses sprites; practically every game ever made uses sprite-based vegetation.
Well actually games have used polygonal plants with proper physics since at least the original hitman game, but actually you missed the point, I mainly stating that most of what i've seen is of vegetation none of which is groundbreaking.
From what little i've seen of the buildings they look pretty basic and I can't tell for sure but it looks like the great majorety of them are missing interiors which for infantry combat is a bit lacking.

Well, in a war zone buildings tend to look pretty basic... and as far as the vegetation goes... not every game set outside is like Far Cry and Crysis. To me, in that last screenshot it looks like it could be nearing fall and I think it just suits that particular environment. Unless you're talking about the vegetation in a different context.
Granted, but nobody's touting ARMA 2 as being visually groundbreaking, and it's not being targeted as 'the next Crysis' or anything. In terms of the visual technologies employed, there's really nothing new here: there's HDR, deferred shading, character self-shadowing, bump mapping, specular highlighting -- the usual stuff.most of what i've seen is of vegetation none of which is groundbreaking
These games have never particularly focused on well-outfitted interiors. In fact, just maneuvering around inside houses and other buildings is difficult given the tight quarters and the control scheme. Overloading the interior spaces with dynamic objects and static furnishings would just make navigating them all the more frustrating. I think that's a deliberate design decision, and I think it's a good one. From what little i've seen of the buildings they look pretty basic and I can't tell for sure but it looks like the great majorety of them are missing interiors which for infantry combat is a bit lacking.

I think the word means "castle" in Russian language
they spelled КАМАЗ from right to left,

That being said, it's still a good-looking game, particularly for a military simulator. Graphically, OFP and the original ARMA didn't hold particularly well to other shooters released around the same time, so this major upgrade in visual fidelity in ARMA 2 is getting people excited, and rightfully so I'd say. In the past, these games have typically been anticipated predominantly for the "meat and potatoes", and it seems as if we're at a point now with ARMA 2 where we're getting the whole kit and caboodle.

The way people hammer on about it being beautiful in this and other threads certainly doesn't give me that impression, the hype machine is in full swing with this one at the moment.
...
Yeah so its impressive relative to predecessors, not really on a general scale, and thats to do with the shortcomings of the previous games and not really because this is anything special.
To be honest if you cant navigate the interior of a house in a modern FPS you should be playing halo on the 360 or wagglin' your wii controler about.
if not, then move along.

Yeah, people do seem to think it's beautiful. I'm leaning that way too. Why is this an issue? The way people hammer on about it being beautiful in this and other threads certainly doesn't give me that impression, the hype machine is in full swing with this one at the moment.
I disagree with it not being "anything special". The visuals are in no way revolutionary, but the game still looks excellent in comparison to any other PC shooter available, and there seems to be a pretty clear consensus on that.Yeah so its impressive relative to predecessors, not really on a general scale, and thats to do with the shortcomings of the previous games and not really because this is anything special.
You've played OFP, so you know how big a pain the controls were when it came to making sharp, aggressive directional changes. ARMA 2 is similar to OFP in that respect. Maneuvering in tight spaces is a pain in the ass no matter how skilled the player is at working with the KB/M (I like to think I've pretty good at using the KB/M by this point). To be honest if you cant navigate the interior of a house in a modern FPS you should be playing halo on the 360 or wagglin' your wii controler about.

My main gripe with Operation flashpoint was the infantry combat outside of thick forest was pretty lame because there just wasnt cover for miles and miles, foliage is distance based so isn't reliable and buildings being largely big square blocks with only a few containing interior spaces, it all added up to pretty bland infantry combat, especially with very accurate long range rifles such as the snipers.
Fun if you're chilling out in a helicopter launching missiles at defenceless ground units, or maybe if you're speeding around in a tank or APC but pretty lame on foot, I was kinda hoping that would change some and battles in villages would be interesting.

At this point, why even put out a demo. The game comes out Friday. I'm pretty disappointed that the demo didn't come out today.
I don't care for a demo.......I CARE for a benchmark. All companies should follow Capcom and release a benchmark demo so users can know if they should spend $50 for 2fps or 20.

Look Princess, I can understand that you may not like the photorealistic approach or artstyle or whatever, but saying that it is a hype machine that is pretending that the game looks good is stupid. The game is made by a small Eastern European developer which makes hardcore military sims, it cannot afford a hype machine unlike that ugly POS Prototype or the mediocre InFamous.
Irrelevant as this game does not cater to the CS/Cod people...and, since you wanted a benchmark, how many FPS are required for smooth gameplay in this game?
If you don't know that number, a benchmark is useless...
Besides making a benchmark, that acutally gives viable data for such a complex sandbox game is impossible...
