The official ARMA 2 Thread, Watch these Videos and join the Hype!

Hey all,

I just found this helpful site benchmarking the latest video cards. ARMA 2 is a beast!
Link to PCGames Hardware

Does this make the game "future proof" since your future hardware will eventually handle it?

In that benchmark they have fillrate at 150 % which means it renders at 1.5 x times the res that is displayed on the screen, a form of supersampling AA you could say.

I made some benchmarkings with the rig in my sig.

All fps counts are averages from looking at sparse screens and busy screens.
Take everything with a grain of salt....I just jotted down the numbers I got and averaged them, I was not being super precise or anything. Its not science etc.

All settings MAX with 200 % Fillrate optimizer and Visibility set at 10,000
2560x1600: 10 fps (frequently below)
1920x1200: 13 fps
1680x1050: 14 fps

All settings HIGH with 100 % Fillrate optimizer and Visibility set at 2,000
2560x1600: 24 fps
1920x1200: 26 fps
1680x1050: 27 fps

All settings NORMAL with 100 % Fillrate optimizer and Visibility set at 2,000
2560x1600: 30 fps
1920x1200: 34 fps
1680x1050: 35 fps

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Intel Core2 Q9550 @ 2.83GHz, 8192MB ram
-ATI 4870x2, Dell 30'' 3008WFP (2560x1600)
-TrackIR 5 Pro, Saitek X52 Pro, Logitech G25
-Sidewinder X8 mouse, Xbox 360 Controller

Yeah, I believe your right. The setting they used was too high. I read their comment section and it seems they didn't do it right.

Yes I do mean operation flashpoint.

My point is that Arma 2 is a nice game if you're in a jet 2km above the ground going at 500mph, or in a jeep looking at a village from 200m away, as soon as you get near anything it looks pretty lame by todays standards. Dynamic LOD isn't anything new.

Bleh anyways yeah it looks alright, I'd hardly say beautiful, I hope the gameplay is solid because I'm tempted to get it nevertheless.

What ever you smoking, i want that shit! :D

woo some high res ground texture amazing

Funny how most of the screenshots lack up close shots of buildings and interiors or anything thats not just 100's of flat sprite based vegetation. I can't say I'm impressed, the most impressive thing about this game is that it looks like it's not consolised all to hell.

Any MP videos?

Is MP sucks I won't buy. That's the most important thing in a game for me.

Yeah, the graphics totally blow. For better IQ, go buy a real gun and run around on an island shooting at the local military.

No one is trying to impress you (except DennisK4) either you like it or you don't, if you don't you move on and forget about the game, easy and simple. This thread is about Arma 2, not about bitching and whining...
should i put "roll eyes" smiley too?

Back to the thread/topic
this is the problem I am having http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoozjv-hvgg&feature=player_embedded

notice when you zoom in textures change.

Umm, is your PCI-e on 8x or lower? That's what happens when there is not enough bandwidth between video card and the rest of the system.
What are the specs of your system?

this is my system, every game runs fine. Arma 2 runs fine as far as FPS is concerned but this texture problem is bugging me, that video was not taken by me and i have a thread over at the Arma2 forums on the subject.

I kind of hate to ask this question, but what kind of DRM and/or copy protection is used in the US DVD retail release and the Steam version(apart from Steam itself) of Arma 2? Does it have online authentication for single player? Do you need to be authenticated for LAN games?
