Gran Turismo

Um, why are you guys hanging out in the console forums if you're not interested in consoles? Get the hell out if you're here to spout your anti console BS. Me? Yes I like consoles. Also? I like my PC. BUT...I love both Gran Turismo and Forza.

As for damage physics, I totally prefer it. I think the whole deal with no damage physics in Gran Turismo is a licensing issue, IIRC, and the makers aren't willing to pay the price. I think the price is well worth it, and would definitely make enthusiasts a lot more happy.

You unlocked and drove the Ferrari race car in 3-4 days, while taking your time ?
Thats why I said "pretty much"...I lost interest before getting to that point. The car models are great, and the tracks/environments are solid...but the whole thing just feels sterile and not very exciting. I guess I've played too many other racing games since the first Gran Turismo to be totally blown away with what GT5 Prologue offers. I'm sure the full game will have tons more content....but with the same physics/graphics that make it kind of bland imo.

Yeah I posted that last page. It looks like a bunch of new GT5 info will arrive at E3.

I think there is a very good chance it will be released this year around Christmas time.

I really hope it's going to be a worldwide release and this year. That would be sweet. :)

Well it looks like car damage is all but confirmed.

A head honcho at PD recently said they're almost to the point of being able to simultate damage on race cars. So that sounds like a good compromise with getting the game this decade, I cannot comprehend how long it would take to do full damage on all 600+ cars.

That should appeal to the arcade scrub/burnout types who need carnage. Rain will be included too. I think it's all been in the works, but they kept a tight lid and abandoned Prologue. Can't wait to see the E3 presentation.

The deluxe version of this game with free dlc will be like GT5 and GT6 combined. Although the stock game is supposed to have almost 100 tracks !

I appreciate you're not here today to talk about GT5, but is there anything you can say about how development's going?

I want to release it as fast as I can, but GT5 for us, when you talk about its status, it's at a point we can release it any time we want, but we can always keep working on it. It's very important for us to make sure everything is done perfectly and everything is done in detail.

They're just polishing the game. Good chance of a 2009 release IMO.

IMO if they wanted to release it in 2009, they would have announced a release date at E3. Dumb of them not to. But who knows, maybe they'll decide to release it the same day as Forza 3 for competition XD

I don't necessarily agree. Would be worth them waiting for GT PSP to launch and then going all out on the GT5 promotion.

It was the highest selling first party game for Sony last gen so I wouldn't be surprised if they throw it out there with a price drop / bundle / PS3 slim.

I would agree with you if GT5 and GT PSP would be somewhat competitors to each other, but one's for a handheld and the other is for a home console. So I think it'd be okay if they were announced for the same time frame. I could be wrong though. Maybe they are just playing it safe. *shrugs*

Doesn't really matter if they're competitors or not. If they announced GT5 now the press wouldn't give a crap about the poor relation that is GT PSP, every single news item would focus on GT5.

Anyone see Dan Greenwalt throw down the gauntlet?

I thought this was a bit bold and...well, we'll see how both games end up, but tugging on superman's cape is usually not a good idea.

"I'm in this industry because of Gran Turismo, let's just be frank," said Greenwalt. He then explained that Gran Turismo inspired his first "stressful" car purchase, a Mitsubishi 3000GT, saying that is was "a great car in that game, and I thought 'Oh my God, if I'm ever going to have a car, that's the car that I want.'" Then things got ugly.

"So, props to Kazunori Yamauchi-san and the PS1 team," said Greenwalt. "That said," he continued, "I feel that he's passed us the baton. Perhaps he hasn't meant to, but we have taken the genre to new levels and they've stopped evolving the genre. So again, tremendous respect to him, but I'd say the differentiator is they're old school." He conclued, "The emperor's naked, and I don't want to, you know, I don't want to slap him around, but no game competes [with] us right now."

This game is going to be so fucking epic. I think it has the potential to be the best Gran Turismo game if not the best car simulation game ever. Just watching this (http://www.gran-turismo.com/en/movie/d3284.html) suggests a few things...

1. Rally, and Nascar (don't care about Nascar but it's a cool addition)
2. Incredible graphics and most likely at 1080p like Prologue.
3. Damage

Also... I think it may be a good idea for maybe Gamestop to maybe offer a high trade-in offer for GT5: Prologue when the game releases. Or perhaps GT5: Prologue owners should get some sort of perk for buying it and buying GT5. Maybe like some money or some bonus cars.

Anyone got any opinions on Forza 3 vs GT5?

I think GT5 is really good, ive got GT5P, but I think Forza could still be awesome if they continue to improve, Forze 2 was excellent

Is it confirmed that GT5 will have damage? maybe the damage is going to be only in Rally mode?

What about skidmarks? are there still going to be floating cars?

What about that awful, awful screeching sound? are we going to get something new this time?

What about those bad engine sounds mixed with wind sounds?

Bonus cars I can see, getting a higher trade in I can't, it'd be money out of Gamestop's pocket, especially since with the full GT5 out, 2nd hand copies of GT5P would be worth bugger all (ie. very little).

I agree, why would they take back a game that's more obsolete than madden 06? GT5P has zero value when GT5 comes out.

That's not a question you want to ask... the fans of both series are pretty hardcore when it comes to defending them.

They'll both be fantastic games, and that's all that really needs to be said. :)

Anyone see Dan Greenwalt throw down the gauntlet?

I'm sure Kaz Yamauchi is worried. :p

If a 2009 worldwide release date is set for GT5 before Forza 3 launches, a lot of people will just wait for GT5. I predict the next Gran Turismo game will dwarf Forza 3 in sales and metacritic reviews. GT5 Prologue sold something like 2 million copies in Europe alone.

F3 looks mightily improved over Forza 2, but his presentation was over the top. He didn't sound confident stating its superiority. Didn't he actually say Forza 3 has the best graphics of any racer this generation ? I don't think anyone buys that. He should be proud of his game, but I got the impression he was comparing his baby Forza 3 against GT5 Prologue, 2 year old code.

They thought Sony was going to blow the doors off of GT5, so they had to really hype their game. Forza 3 will be good, but GT5 will crush it. It's had a lot more time, money, and experience invested. It's got more scale, NASCAR, WRC, 90+ tracks etc.. I commend Turn Ten for implementing interior cockpit view, but the modeling doesn't compare to GT5. As I commend PD for implementing damage. (something not realistically feasible on PS2 hardware) The only thing we don't know is how the driving/racing simulation compares. I suspect GT5 with a G25 will be untouchable. We've come a long way since Test Drive on 8 bit computers.

GT5 is the Duke Nukem Forever of the console world. It will prob be a great game if it ever sees the light of day. Since 2006 when the PS3 was released I said the only reason I would buy it would be for GT5...needless to say is 2009 and I still have not purchased one and prob wont until 2010. Dont get me wrong, this saddens me as I've been playin GT since its release to the game world...but come on, release the damn game.

Well, I doubt that xbox owners will...

I think that GT5 will likely outsell forza eventually, but comparing the two as if they were multiplat games that people can just substitute one for the other is silly, because most people don't own both consoles.

I hate NASCAR but the thought of PD getting an actual NASCAR license without modeling full damage like Forza 3........BLASPHEMY.

Apparently WRC cars have damage, I don't see why NASCAR won't.

E3 was a letdown in that we only got a tease of GT5. They'll reveal more in the months to come.

I thought EA Sports had an exclusive Nascar deal? This has bothered me since I saw the video. As for car damage, guys, the video showed some scrape spots. That's a lot different than folded sheet metal.

They could do stock car racing without it being actual NASCAR.
Then why would they advertise/show Nascar in the game? This game seems like it's going to end up being some epicly huge racing game that has multiple different racing types in it. Colin McRae + Nascar Racing + NFS + GT = GT5?

Uhh, I have no idea, I was simply suggesting that if another company has a nascar exclusivity, there are easy ways around that. I'm not sure what you're trying to get at with your little sarcastic post, since I wasn't saying anything bad about your precious franchise.

What makes you think that he is being sarcastic? From what I can see he asked a valid question about EA Sports and Nascar exclusivity and you answered that they could do a stock car race without being Nascar so he asked again since the footage showed was Nascar, not just a stock car race.

GT is not my precious franchise and I was not being sarcastic. I just don't see why they would advertise Nascar in their engine with no intention of using the Nascar rights. I'm just making conversation man, not attacking you.
The original EA/Nascar deal was only until 2009. - So unless it was renewed sometime recently it shouldn't be a surprise that NASCAR potentially wants to go with another developer, or multiple developers.
I remember hearing that EA did not want to do anymore Nascar games or at least not at their current release schedule so they were not renewing, I just didn't know when it was expiring (who wishes they would do the same for NFL :) ) GT 5to me just seems to be trying to be a complete racing title, featuring everything. I hope the 5-6 years it's been in development means it's going to be a quality product ... and will probably be on a DL blu-ray 50GB ;)

Well, it was a bit more than just procedural scrapes in the textures:
24c9mqb.gif

and the car just over shot a jump, its not like they've shown a car eating it full tilt into a wall.

All that said, its also just a teaser to get the fanboys (me) excited can no way be taken as representation of the final product because it showed one, single, isolated fender bending.
