VMware + Netware 5 = no gigabit?

I'm not able to get gigabit speeds with Netware running on ESX. I'm using the PCNTNW.LAN drivers. Speeds seem to be only 100Mb...

Any ideas? Everything else on the host (other VMs) have no issues with network speeds.

I think I've fixed it by changing the drivers to CNEAMD. For those that find this later, here's the hardware settings to use if you use more than one nic:

NIC1 -
IRQ = 3
Addr = 300

NIC2 -
IRQ = 4
Addr = 320

Throughput is now ~50MB/s, much better than the 12.5MB/s I was getting.

Not sure if this applies to Netware, but installing the VMware tools on to your VM once you got everything set up should take care of the NIC speed.

At least in Windows VM's it does....:rolleyes:

edit: Looks like I was late to the party....sounds like progress! ;)

Yeah, VMware tools is a must with Novell. Without it Novell doesn't idle the processor so it sits pegged at 100%.

As a side note, restoring from tape is taking forever - about 550MB/min. Seems a bit slow to me...

Sure wish VCB supported Netware!

Yep, and now that it's virtualized who knows how long it'll be around ;) lol

We're going to move to OES2, but ancient hardware necessitated a move before we could engineer a new environment.
