Just curious. How many of you plan on actually upgrading from Vista to Windows 7? Do you think it's worth it and why?

I will. I like Win7 a lot. I just won't put it on my main machines yet since I am pretty sure you will need to do a fresh install from the RC to the retail.

I will, as soon as it is officially released, I can't be stuck messing around with release candidates.

I've honestly never tried it so what would changes would most make me want to upgrade?

I'll be upgrading from XP to 7, if that counts (but I won't be voting).

ill upgrade about 6 months after its released + when i can get it free

paying? for windows? hahahaha.....

I will if I can get a copy through my University or through something like power together.

upgrading from RC to retail on my main PC

I dual booted 7 / XP on my laptop and while I find myself going back to my XP partition alot (because i dont feel like setting it up fully) I'll most likely be deleting the XP partition at release.

Good show Microsoft. you got me interested in your products.

if only you didnt take away my cascading "all programs" (looking for certain items on a 24'' monitor scrolling through that tiny frame is hellish. plus I'd clean it up more if I could see it all at once...

I guess just searching for said needed program is faster.

I absolutely loathe the new taskbar, but everything else is good.

Still undecided.

I think I may too but only If I get it cheap as well. I payed 30 bucks to get Vista from my university.

That's a question only you can answer, by reading about Windows 7 and giving it a try yourself. No one else knows how you use your computer, or what you do with it, better than you. So, no one else will know what features are useless to you, or what features will make it a needed upgrade.

I won't at first. I'm enjoying Vista a lot! It's solid, and works with everything. I'll probably wait a while before 7, but i will deff. be going 7 at some point as my secondary OS.

Sadly though, Windows 7, as of 3-4 weeks ago, didnt have support for my tablet..

I'm not in a rush, Vista was a great OS and I don't think 7 really brings a lot of important changes to the table like Vista did. I also use the Vista movie maker quite a bit; the new live movie maker you can download for 7 blows.

I'll probably get it for my laptop since the 7 RC does run much better on it than XP or Vista ever did. I'll upgrade my other computers over time.

On my pc, I don't have any good reasons to stay with vista or xp. My wife's machine probably could use a video card, but I'll probably just buy a new pc at that point with 7 on it. She's due for a change.

here at work, we need a variety of different machines, so some of us might stay on xp for a while longer.

I believe that they released support for touch screens/tablets recently, I might be wrong though

I will. It fixes a lot of the Vista problems and quirks that were annoying plus has some nice new features that make overall use much better.

I voted no. My Vista machine is running perfectly fine and will see little to no benefit with upgrading. My spare PC running XP would definitely benefit from the upgrade though. The XP computer is running AMD64x2 5000+, 2GB RAM, and a Geforce 8600.

I chose No... because I never ran Vista as my day-to-day OS anyway... ;) XP Pro x64 till October of last year, been Windows 7 ever since and will be until something comes along worthy enough to replace it.

I don't know about first day.W7 7100 has run flawlessly since I installed.Vista-64 has preformed without a problem also. Will buy before trial period ends.Still wonder about final price.

Already moved to full time Windows 7 RC on my laptop. Desktop will get upgraded when Windows 7 goes RTM. Would do it right now but I'm too lazy to have to reload it again in four and a half months.

Will be moving all my desktops to it, (most of them have the rc and will probabbly continue to do so until it runs out then thell get switched.)

I loved the beta and RC. However I doubt I will run out and buy an OEM or retail copy until I build a new pc or acquire another used one capable of running Win7 and actually have need of another license. My current main rig is running Vista just fine. No reason to run out and buy a copy for it.

Oh, scratch that. I forgot that my wife's PC is running the beta right now. She loves Win 7. So I will prolly end up buying a copy for her when the beta expires. What is hilarious is that her computer is one of my older hand me downs. A socket A Athlon 3000+, NF2 400, 1 or 2 gigs of DDR(forgot which), a 400gig ata133 hd, and a 9800pro. Win 7 runs quite well on that system, only problem was drivers for the on board network adapter. Hacked driver support is available, but I have an Intel nic card that is currently supported in the RC to put in there if it gives me any problems.
Already voted no though.

Libraries, jump lists, and the new task bar are huge. My RC will be upgraded for sure.

1. if it's truly "real world" faster for gaming....with the identical mobo, cpu, and gpu....then yeah.

2. if it is priced decently, and the above applies, then yeah.

Vista64 is working wonderful for me, no complaints. Win7 is definitely not high on my list of upgrades, although eventully, I will run it. When is the question :p

Libraries is interesting. Also, Directx 11 may be exclusive to Win7. Is that correct?

I've been running it for awhile, and like it quite a bit. I'm not the biggest fan of the taskbar, but it's starting to grow on me a bit.

While I like Win 7 RC and think its a better system that its predecessors, I don't have a particular need to upgrade my existing XP/Vista systems since I spend most of my time in Linux. Maybe once the prices have been discounted enough or there are games out there that will benefit from 7....

Techie81,

In the mean time until Windows 7 is released and you have the opporunity to get 7 through your university, I would try the 7RC (which is free for one year!) Windows 7RC as well as other great tips / tricks are available at Microsoft Springboard.

I didn't upgrade from Vista, but I did overwrite Debian(was using as a server/desktop) with Windows 7 to test drive it for awhile, well at least until October when it's released.

I think your question would better be served "Why wouldn't you upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista?"
