What is your budget? I'm guessing $400 is your max? Stay away from Vizio's; yes they are decent tvs, great for your first high def television, but the thing is they really are 'cheap'. I wish I could find the post in a Post your PS3 setup at Playstation.com, but this dude stated to the point how really bad those tvs are and it was not a post like "Yeah Vizios suck!" It was a legit post with good insight as he had owned one for about nine months (I think) and how it broke on him twice; first time he managed to fix it, but second time it happened to break after the warranty.

Currently I don't even own a TV. I am basically buying it to keep my brother, who is staying with me for the summer, entertained. I was originally thinking of getting a 26", but for only slightly more, the 32" seems worth it. Going to 42" is about 2x as much. So I would like to keep the cost under $400. Both seem like a good deal. I have heard that Vizio is a new brand, but it could be the next Sony or Samsung. I have a friend who bought a larger Vizio and have not heard him complain about it. Some people complained about the Phillips flashing every 5 minutes, but if there's a problem with that system, I can always take it back to Costco.

I just shot the gun on that vizio deal yesterday, vizio is getting better and the price is decent. Vizios have moved up, they are no sony or samsung, but they work well. Yes, they are moving up.

I would try to get a Samsung or LG, they look MUCH nicer than these cheaper brands

Heres that post I was talkin about. http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&thread.id=3548551&view=by_date_ascending&page=18 But yeah as mentioned you should check out AVS forums for help on tvs moreso than monitors.

So the guy bought one model, it lasted a year and three weeks, and it's a indicator for the entire brand's reliability? I wonder how many Sony units have died just out of warranty? I know I had a PS2 when they were first released, and it died one day after the 90 day warranty, Sony wanted me to pay to ship it to them, and send a money order with it for $100 so they could repair or replace it. I guess Sony sucks just as bad then.

Grow up, electronics fail, it happens.

Vizio used to be the budget brand. But when I checked out my friend's 120Hz Vizio 42" 1080p LCD, I was quite stunned. Very nice picture, lots of controls and inputs, very good scaler and very usable as a computer display. The colors were nice. Seemed to have a IPS panel. I wish I had bought a Vizio instead of my Panasonic (which I like for the viewing angles but I hate the non availability of the RGB constrols and a VGA input).

I wasnt trying to persuad the OP to screw over Vizio entirely bro. I was giving him a really good point of view on it; you buy what you get I'd say. For a starting HD tv it should be fine, unless you are considering a monitor by any chance.

If I am not mistaken (and I'm not) you told him to "stay away" from Vizio, and continued on to remark about how they are "cheap" and how some guy on some forum had problems with one.

There is no such thing as a "starter" HDTV, that's rediculous. Unless you have some personal experience with Vizio units, you should refrain from spreading trash about them, and maybe costing someone extra money.

That dude at the PS3 forum is an ass for not purchasing an extended warranty for a sensitive electronic device. Besides we can dig up examples from any brand TV, not just Vizio. Don't let a single stranger's commentary influence you that much.

Vizio is considered a mid-tier manufacturer, some models are a great bang for the buck, while others are considered less so (getting what you pay for).

OP if you're going to purchase an HDTV i highly recommend purchasing one from Costco, and many model Vizio's are considered a great value. Research the models at the AVSforums for good measure.

Be sure to budget for an extended warranty as there's always a chance you'll need it.

mom just bought a 47" 120hz vizio. i would put it in my house... the picture looks just as good as most other tv's. if you really wanted something great then drop the money for a pioneer elite or something, but for good tv, vizio is a decent choice. i dont know much about their general durability, but honestly i think this vizio was much better built then the LG's we put up at work last year....

I hate to admit it. But you guys are right. Yeah I did screw up by making a post like that. Its just from personal experience though of buying "the other brand"; which shouldn't hold back anyone else.
Anyways, I say take your time researching whats best for your situation. Sorry for the ignorant post.

If you want to play video games, be sure to consider buying a plasma. Response time is really amazing and if you go with Panasonic 77 series you'll get anti-glare as well as a panel that won't burn-in. I own a 40" 1080p SONY Bravia TV and bought the 32" 720 HDMI for the bedroom. The 720p resolution is very good for this TV. This has a little better contrast than the L series and PIP capability, when PC is used as main source. I had been waiting to pick up a HD set for some time and I'm glad it’s one among best 32" LCD TV from Sony.
