First post! Been lurking, but now need actual input.
I have an old Dell E1705 laptop / portable workstation which I am looking to replace it with a SFF mini-iTX build. The Dell (which cannot play games anymore due to horrible design / heat issues) would cost me about $550 to fix / upgrade, so I figure I might as well shell out an extra 2-3 hundred more dollars and get a whole new PC. The laptop works well, save for games or heavy computing duties. I Plan on trying to salvage parts from the laptop in this build.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
This is going to be an all purpose PC. I will use it mostly for web-browsing, standard office work, gaming, and multimedia. I want to make sure that it has the capability to run moderate to heavy games—Guild Wars, UT 3, WoW, Fallout3. I want to be sure that the computer will be able to handle future games as well, specifically Starcraft II on max resolution when it comes out!
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
My budgest is 700-900$ (shipping + tax included).
3) Where do you live?
Maryland
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.
I need almost everything: a case, PSU, CPU, RAM, memory, hard drive, GPU + others (detailed below). I already have a keyboard and mouse.
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
I might reuse a slim disc drive (DVD+RW) I have in the current laptop, as well as a 2.5" 100GB hard drive. I bascially only need the disc drive for OS, installation, so that is not a big priority in my book.
6) Will you be overclocking?
I have never overclocked, due to hardware limitation, but will indeed be trying to with this new PC.
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
This is an issue. I have to buy one, and with this budget, it will be a strain. I need help in this aspect. Looking for 19-22".
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
I plan on ordering parts this weekend (good deals everywhere), and building it slowly over the summer.
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.
I have the motherboard all set...I think.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license?
I plan on using Windows 7 RC, and going from there.

Here are the parts I have thoughts about so far (basically a mix-match of peoples builds on here):
Case: SilverStone Sugo SG05-B Black - $99 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811163149 (comes w/ 300W PSU)
Mobo: Zotac 9300 mini-ITX w/ Wi-Fi - $120 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813500022 (this is what I am building the system around)
CPU: Intel E8400 - $168 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115037
Mem: 2 x 2GB Kingston - $52 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134582
CPU Cooler: GeminII S - $37 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103046
GPU: GTS 250 - $148 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130469 (trying to find a more suitable card so I can use the hybrid SLI capability of the Mobo)

Others I have looked at:
Disc Drive - SilverStone TOB02 - $159 - http://www.amazon.com/SilverStone-TOB02-Blue-Ray-Combo-Drive/dp/B0025VKQBU

I'll especailly need a hand picking out a hard drive (looking for no more than 320GB) and a monitor. Any and all input is appreciated. Thank you!

I think you have a good start. A couple concerns though...you want this to be a powerful gaming machine. That GTS 250 card is huge, and might not fit in that case. Also, you might run into problems with the PSU since its likely low quality and not too high wattage. It might not be able to handle the CPU + graphics card you've picked.

You might want to look into microATX which could give you some more options for cases, mobo, psu, gfx cards. There are some good mATX cases that are lan party friendly/portable and it will give you room for full size hard drives/DVD drives which means you can buy less expensive parts. It should also have room for a proper PSU.

I can't tell from the specs of the sugo case you listed exactly how big it is or if the PSU is a standard size. You might be able to keep that case and just swap the PSU if it does.

As for a monitor, I guess we'd need some more details on your preferences. If you're just looking for a decent/cheap monitor then that's easy to find. How much you pay for a monitor is going to depend on how picky you are with colors/viewing angles/brightness/contrast etc. You will want to find one with a low response time since you'll be gaming. I would definitely recommend 22" - you can get them pretty cheap if you want ($150 Acer X223WBD 22" 5ms, good reviews http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009145)

As for a hard drive, the WD caviar black WD6401AALS 640GB drive is highly recommended by others and very fast. Its also not too expensive at $75 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136319)
