TF2 Spy Update!

I've said it over and over if you are losing you are not owning the other team they are owning you. TF2 is not a twitch shooter. A good mix of classes working together will beat even so called fps elite that are just trying to score kills. Yeah some of the one on one may be random (most of it isn't) but a good TEAM will steam roll a bad one every time.

What are you talking about? I have no idea what you are on about.

The other guy said that it helps to be on a roll, owning the other team to get unlocks. I was pointing out that I got unlocks by doing nothing but being headshotted at the start of a game and the item appeared. How the hell do you confuse being headshot at the beginning of a round with "owning".
 
We LOVE putting hours into TF2 - when it feels like you are working toward a goal and you can see the results. It's like levelling up. In the old system, you can see how far you off and what you need to accomplish to get your unlocks.

This new one is totally random. A noob can spent 10 minutes in the game and get a ton of unlocks. A vet can spend 10 hours in the game and not find a single thing. Random SUCKS.

This isn't working towards anything, this is simply totally fucking random. When a new update comes out you usually want to try out the new shit ASAP. You know how many weapons I've found since the update came out? 2. The ambassador(Yay!) and the Blutsauger(WTF!). Atleast I found something new. I've seen some guys find nothing but old shit.

Been playing for hours and thats all I've got. I managed to get all the heavy unlocks just playing heavy normally and not achievement whoring in only 2 days of on and off play and yet now I gotta hope for luck of the draw to pick up any of the new stuff.

And valve is talking about adding trading. Who the fuck are you gonna trade with? Everyone has the previous weapons and what exactly would you trade a 2nd copy of a new weapon for? More old weapons? A hat? The only thing I can see is trading a copy of a new weapon for a copy of another person's new weapon, thats it.

I don't like this new system, sure I may eventually adapt but I'm not happy about it. All this new system is accomplishing is actually making the unbalanced teams that usually accompany an update last even longer. Think about it, its taking people forever to find new shit. After it takes em forever to find a new weapon then they're going to want to play the class to test em out.

If it was normal most people would have all the new stuff by now and be putting it through its paces and the team game would be on the road to recovery in a couple weeks or so.
 
Well I have to say thus far, the razorback is useful however it seems like it should do "more" to the spy than just make him unable to swing for what equates to about 1.5 swings of their knife normal speed. Usually you don't even unscope in time to take advantage of him being unable to swing, useful to give you a fighting chance. But you have to be extremely fast to actually kill the guy or hope a sentry is watching your back.

The Jarate seems pretty useful as I've seen it detect spies and all sorts of different odds and ends....I don't have it yet.. guessing it replaces the melee weapon.

Don't have the huntsman......the way it pins the people to the wall often times for me makes it harder to tell at distance if someone is standing in front of it or not. Not sure if there's a graphics option for it to make it clearer or not.


Ambassador, I guess it has it's uses but it's too slow close up. So the only scenario I can come up with where it'd be of benefit is if there's a unjumpable gap separating you from someone you want dead. Beyond that it seems you want to be up close since the knife is so deadly due to it's non-delayed backstab and overall high swing speed for how damaging it is.

Other spy things, heard people complain about the dead ringer. Haven't personally tried them.

But the biggest things that help the spy in the updates are the improved disguises, they LOOK like disguised spies on your team now. Which if you're used to seeing the mask and knowing it's friendly.........well you'll be dead shortly.

Oh and the taunt bug where the spy could be disguised, stand next to you with his knife out and taunt, kill your sentry, dispenser, teleporter, and anyone near them if they don't move away. Since he doesn't animate or undisguise. Not sure it's fixed or just disabled on some of the servers I've played on recently. Had some spies abusing that stuff on my guns.

For me the sniper update is OK.....I think it might be about average for utility compared to other class updates. Spy, note I don't like playing spy much, doesn't seem to be much improved by it's unlocks, so it may be one of the weakest updates thus far. But the spy has gotten a bunch of quasi-updates in the last few patches...so I don't think they could give them much more utility without pushing them over the edge.


Server lag is horrible, game is stuttering like crazy for me when the pyros and sentries light em up with 3-6 of each visible to me when they start firing. And the client has crashed a couple times on me. Lowering the graphics settings didn't really help that, so I think I'm going to have to wait till they adjust some stuff.

Overall, I dislike the new unlock system...if all of it's features were in place (like picking what item I want next) it may have been less tedious. But really I just like seeing all the weapons and using them for myself to see what they can do and not having to rely on reading about them and having people try to tell you about it.

I'd be less peeved about it if I were a new player and never knew another system, but overall, I thought it was better served to tie achievements into unlocks they could have just required less achievements to unlock stuff.

I have this nagging feeling that them implementing this system is them learning how to do it so whatever game they have in the works they want to use something like this in...they can get it in place and working correctly when it goes out the door.

I got all weps/achivment before spy/sniper update. Since then all weapon i got is FIRE AXE x 3. I don’t know is there a glitch or WHAT THE FU**!!!! i spend 6h today playing and got nothing. Most of time i am on top 5. I don’t know what is going on? Who should i report this bullshit and tell them that their new system SUX and if i don’t start getting new weapons soon i will take "orange box" and shovel it in their fu***** throat!!!!! :mad:

A noob can also achievement farm and get the items before the players that unlock them through normal play.

Also grinding is a drag when the players are "forced" to unlock novelty(the ones that rarely happen in normal play) achivements in order to get those weapons; not my idea of fun.

Besides the unlockable weapons are not inherently better than the traditional weapons, they are just supposed to provide variety.

I can now play TF2 any way I want with any class I want and still unlock weapons. Sounds easy. Random = as fair as it gets without giving everyone the weapons at once(which would be a class spam). I don't have a problem with this system.

Hopefully they will get the bugs worked out, if indeed that is a programming issue(possibly server issue?)
BTW: remember that with the older system they still had issues with people's achievements showing up as completed so blaming the entire system on possible glitches is unfair.

Well, after reading that, I am almost positive the Valve devs have sour grapes over the achievement servers, might as well call them up a whaaaaaambulance. :)

Oh well, looks like idling in an idling server is going to be the new rage now.

I still don't understand what the big deal is with the achievement servers. Who cares if a small portion of the tf2 community wants to farm their new unlocks? It's a game, and it has no effect on any other player whatsoever, as they are sidegrades and having these new weapons won't provide an advantage over anyone else.

Really, if people couldn't get their 3 unlocks after 1-3 days of playing competently for the milestones, TF2 isn't for them. It's not hard. Most people I know, including myself, unlocked our weapons legitimately through the milestones system and enjoyed every minute of it.

Valve needs to either go back to the old way, or find some other method, like a buying system with in game money.

In the meantime, I'll be idling overnight in the new and improved achievement servers that don't kick AFK people. :cool:
 
I'm totally bored by the game now. Servers full of spies, snipers, new maps are dire and random unlocks is the most stupid thing Valve have done yet. I'm moving on to something else

besides the new symbols for classes, its really not that bad, idk where uve been playing, but ive had max 4 spies and snipers combined on my teams, it prevents full sniper rushes, achievement servers, and promotes playing the game.

4 on blue and 4 on red means that 1/3 of the server is sniper or spy!
 
Anyone notice the spy can shoot you through the gates with the new revolver before the round starts?
 
4 spys/snipers means I spawn as the pyro and kill a lot of people... I have no problem with that.
 
I've been playing TF2 on and off since it's official launch day, i got about 30 achievements total and never unlocked anything the "hard way" i just got 2x sandman and 1x ambassador during 40 mins of gameplay tho, so let me get this straight, all those people who got their items the hard way before the update now lost them all ? for example i want to get the backburner, if i do an X number of achievements on the pyro pack will i still get it or is it all just a matter of luck now ? Do afk players still get unlocks or did valve fix it ?
 
I've been playing since the day the Orange Box was released and have earned all my achievements the hard way (not achievement servers), yet with this new update system, I've earned over half the Sniper achievements and haven't received a single new Sniper unlock.

While playing I think it's said I've earned something new but I can't find it? Do I need to press that button that deletes all my previous earned achievements to get the new ones through this random system?

Please don't crucify me if this has already been said before, I'm writing quickly b/c I'm at work and don't have the time to read 8p thread.
 
No it isn't. The drops are still bugged up so stop whining.


Maybe whining about it is cathartic. Certainly is for me. I feel passionately that the game is moving in the wrong direction
 
Not only are the teams unbalanced now but now there are AFKs fucking everywhere. Just left the DIG 2fort server and there were like 4 AFKs on each team.

Its already fucking hard enough to get into a DIG server and now we gotta fight with fucking AFKs? fuck that.

Why would they idle in a real server? There are close to 75 achievement_idle servers they can sit in for hours.
 
my only two drops were the scout gun and bat that I already had, damnit, i want that bow for the sniper.
 
Didn't know the Soldier in video knew how to operate machinery. :p

Grid panel machine at start, thought it would be an engineer or something.

Although in the video I did like "you need to protect/secure the briefcase" followed by the Soldier stating the exact same statement. :cool:

Good to see the Spy get an update, though.
 
I've so far gotten the huntsman and the crappy shield. The huntsman is great once you get used to it, but the shield sucks ass.
 
this 24/7 2fort server I went to a few minutes ago had like, 6 snipers on each side outside exchanging arrows, everywhere you looked there were arrows whizzing past, it was great :p

Highest level tf2 has gotten before is around 30,00-40,000.

It seems people love the update, when you count the weapons and maps, and not the shitty unlock system...
 
That doesn't mean people love the update, they're testing it out, give it a week and i'm sure the number will drop down to normal.

It's also a free TF2 weekend and the game is $10. That is also a reason for the influx of people.
 
Why doesn't valve just make the updates time based? Anything related to achievements, kills, etc, can be farmed. However, make sure we're talking playtime, not idling (check for movement, some type of points being scored, etc to avoid that). So if you want the sniper upgrades, you spend 5hrs for the first, 10hrs for the second, and 20hrs for the third. Let the player choose the upgrade at each interval too. Seems easy enough. This way people just need to play with the class they're looking to upgrade.

I've already gotten all 3 sniper unlocks. I found both the shield and bow useless. I wish they had trades implemented, as I'd really like to use the new spy watch.
