Game is being made by the same dudes who gave us the original AvP in '99.

I have been waiting for what feels like forever for this game.

The first AvP was amazing and under-appreciated. The second was even more polished yet somehow the feel of the first game appealed slightly more to me. I have total faith in rebellion to get this right.

Things I want to see in this game:
1) Intertwining or at least connected campaign stories.
2) Multiplayer Coop. I would like if at least Marines could be played coop online. I'm thinking Left4Dead against Aliens/Predators. Maybe 8-10 player max.
3) 3-way Team Deathmatch.

I can only hope the fact that this is multiplatform won't hinder it at all (proper widescreen, controls, etc)

OK, here goes:

OH NO ANOTHER SHITTY CONSOLE PORT!
I BET IT HAS SUPER-DRACONIAN DRM!
I DON'T TRUST DEVELOPER X TO DO A GOOD JOB WITH MY MOST BELOVED FRANCHISE!
IT CAN NEVER EVER BE AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL!

Does that about cover it?

--------

Now that that's over, I'm really looking forward to it. I loved the first 2 AvP games.

Playing the Marines in the original AvP was awesome. In Marine mode, the tension of the pinging of the motion sensor as enemies approached unseen remains unparalleled. The Alien mode was great fun too, being able to cling to anything and sneak up behind humans. Predator mode was okay but not as interesting as the other two. Unfortunately, when I played AvP Gold, one of the later Alien mode levels seemed unfixably bugged where I would "fall through the world" and not be able to proceed.

AvP 2 was a very average FPS shooter. Lacked all that made the original fun and scary.

I think you left out, "IT IS GONNA BE SOOOO UN OPTIMIZED WE CAN'T RUN IT AT FULL SETTINGS!!! OMG!".

I think that covers it.:D

No, you forgot the flip side of the game being optimized:

'ALL THE GAME HAS IS GRAPHICS!'

Holy shit I can't wait.

Too bad MPLAYER isn't around anymore for some King of the hill tourneys.

haha

They look to be highly touched-up in-game shots to me.

Why would you say that? If you look at the wall textures, their pretty low res. It's the characters that look really good (and the lighting+effects), and it looks like they took shots that capatilized.

But yeah, look at the main scene instead of the effects and characters, and it's not so impressive.

(And yes, I'm agreeing. The scenes are a bit touched up)

Doesn't seem too touched up to me. Aside from maybe a few colour balance tweaks, it looks like pretty standard UE3-style stuff to me (they're probably using UE3 anyway).

This. Looks. Awesome.

Had soo much fun with AvP and AvP2, it's about time they came out with a new one.

Those almost look like Crysis-level graphics, too.

I think I just shat myself.

 Everything you listed as loving in the first was in the second in more or less the exact same way.

I hope it has a solid multiplayer and becomes real popular. AVP2 is probably in my top FPS. Each campaign was real cool, and tied together nicely, and the multiplayer was fun as well.

I've been looking forward to this game for some time now. The first two were excellent. I hope that tradition continues.

oh man. hopefully the multiplayer will be good. i'm imagining an epic battle between predators and aliens!

AvP 2 was the first pc game I ever played and I really liked the marine campaign but thought playing as the alien or predator was silly.

And Marines!

yeah, but honestly, the marines are who i'm least excited about. i'm very interested in how much differently they are going to handle the extraterrestrial races. hopefully, it'll be smooth controls and totally different feels to every bit of the game play, and balanced for multiplayer as well. if so, i can't wait for an all out alien/predator war. mmmmmm. hopefully, it'll be epic!

Cool, one to look out for. AvP 2 was superb and scary as hell, Hopefully they will recapture the atmosphere

True that. The Marine seemed tougher, the world was brighter, the game just wasn't as tense as the original AvP. I Really missed the 4 flares and the live action video feeds, those 2 things really made the original Marine campaign awesome.

The marine campaign in AVP2 was one of the very few video games that actually startled and scared me on a few occasions. Alien and Predator were lots of fun, but Marine was just down right spooky at times. Hope they can replicate that.

+1. I hear ya, man. AvP 1 is too underrated. It scared the shit outta me when I was a kid... playing as the marine was absolutely amazing (the one I used to play the most, followed by the Predator).
I felt AvP 2 pretty much like AvP 1, but with better graphics and gameplay. I really enjoyed it...

Marines all the way, baby! That was the most challenging mode in both AvP 1 and 2... facing both alien races in those dark corridors was scary as hell...

Neat, it'll be interesting to see how it turns out, the original AvP was hours of fun multiplayer.

Great news! I played the shit out of the first one way back when. This one looks very cool, looks like there using the UT3 Engine... Narly!.:p

AvP Jaguar > All bitches!

Just kidding.. I played them all and enjoyed them.

Can't wait for this. I liked how AvP2 started out when you did the Alien campaign. You hatched out as a face hugger and then avoided detection by climbing up walls out of sight, etc until you found your poor helpless sleeping victim... mmm yeah... thats some hot one on one chest bursting action.. ;) Then as the chestburster you found "food" to grown into an adult. It gave you that small bit of difference in gameplay to make a little less monotonous.

I don't know about the first game but the second one used the Lithtech engine from Monolith. Great performance on any hardware of the day, but it still looked good for its time.

First one was Lithtech as well.

I hadn't seen or played the first one in so many years. I never got much time with it. I experienced it as an unstable and poorly coded piece of crap that was damned entertaining and fun while it worked.

The second one in contrast never gave me a single issue.

The trick with the first one was that you had to have the CD in the drive to make it stable. It didn't outright require the disc to be there, but it tried to play some audio tracks off of the disc. If it wasn't there, it would waste monumental amounts of CPU power trying to find it, which rendered the game unplayable.

Is that what it was? Weird.

Yeah. It was fucked up.

I remember playing it at a LAN party before I figured this little trick out. I would be rolling a marine through the corridors with the giant minigun. I was getting like 5 frames per second, so every time I saw motion, it was prudent to shoot first, ask questions later. LOTS of kills, and a good amount of TK.

Good times.
