Looking for any recent card under 9"

I've just installed a new hard drive, and things are getting extremely tight between my drives and the end of my 8800GT---the end of the card is literally pressing into the SATA and power cabling of one of my HDs. I had a hell of a time trying to get the PCIe power connector to squeeze back into the graphics card.

What are some recent cards that are under 9"? A quick search tells me that card sizes are only going up, with most of the cards I want being 10.5", which is idiotic. Is there anything much better than the 8800GT out there that falls under 9"?

Try HD 4890. Its shorter then GTX 260/280/285 so its probably somewhere close to 9".

HD4770 is supposed to be 8.25" but the PCI-E connector is also on the end so it might as well be 9 inches anyway.

Pretty sure the HD4890 and HD4870 are 9.5", the HD4850 might be slightly shorter (still slightly longer than 9"), I was about to get an HD4870 for my last build because the GTX 260 didn't fit in my old case (an Antec Super Lanboy) but I just ended up swapping cases (at no cost mind you)... The XFX GTX 260 w/two bundled games was too good a deal.

I'd rather upgrade my case or run my system in a cardboard box than pay $125 for a GTS 250 when a GTX 260 (which is significantly better) only costs about $35-40 more... And you can even find it with some bundled game(s) for that price. But that's just me.

LOL, he could just move his Hdd....
(lol, better yes, many times better no)

Not to mention we better know what Res he games at before suggesting crazy cards...

Edited for your pleasure... :p Sue me, english ain't my first language. It's still a much better buy, it can mean the difference between being able to handle a game at 1920x w/some AA now or in the future if he upgrades displays vs not being able to run it at that res. I just can't see why anyone would buy a GTS 250 unless it's at $100 or less, 'specially coming from an 8800GT.

More accurate. You seem to have a better command of English than I do (and I was born here);)
thing is the 260 is a LOT longer than the 8800, also needs 2 6pin power cables (may need a PS upgrade as well)

And none of this matters till we know that his hardware and res are....
(Newegg had refurbished EVGA 260s last week for $150)

EDIT: if you got the room this is a KING size value ($145-260)

It's better to spend $50-$100 on a decent case that won't constrict your video card choice than to try and find a video card that's less than 9", which for the most part isn't happening anymore.

Yeah, I forgot he was looking for small cards for a moment there, but even a 4850 is just over 9", evilsofa's right... It's getting increasingly tougher to find a card shorter than that.

From the images this 4850 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102824 look shorter than standard 4850. You can tell by the distance from the end of the card to the hook thingie by pcie connection.

yeah, i see there are actually a couple different 4850s that are 8-8.5" long @ newegg.
still don't think it would be worth his money to upgrade to a gts 250 or 4850 from an 8800gt at this point in time if those are the only ones he can fit in his case. anything better would be too large unless like he gets a new case like someone recommended.

Recertified cards don't carry the lifetime EVGA warranty, I assume?

I think I saw in EVGAs forum they will only give a 90day for the re certified cards...
