nearly 3 years later and i'm still quite happy with my opty 165 - still UNDERvolted and running at 2.40Ghz this whole time. next she's going under water and getting clocked up to 2.6Ghz minimum :)

Had my opty 170 for two years at 2.6+ and still happy. Will eventually be put in htpc and replaced w/ quad core

My opteron 165 is stuck at 2.4GHz for some reason. anyone have any ideas as to get it any higher? my opty 146 got to 2.9GHz haha. so i was kinda sad when i only hit 2.4 with 165.

Lap and lower multi? I just lowered my multi, raised the FSB and made sure voltage was reasonable with good temps.

Got my 3800x2 to 3.0ghz yesterday night. Left orthos running and its stable like a champ. Getting 2049 as cpu score on 3dmark06, its sad cause a stock e8400 scores around what? 3k :(

Anyways, loving my 3800x2, Upgrading to intels i7 platform, or staying with amd on am3 if its cheaper for not that much of a gap early next year

Keep 939 alive folks! Im actually thinking of getting a 165 opty, cause my current temps are killing me :( (39-40C Idle, 59-60C Load)

I'm still running my A64 3200+ Winchester core, Asus A8V Deluxe, 2GB of OCZ DDR 400 and Geforece 7800 GS, I'm working on putting together a Phenom 9950 build right now.

just ordered a 9800 gt oc to replace the 7800 gtx that is running in my x2 4200 build. i'm also looking into building a new rig with a phenom chip.

i honestly can't believe that this processor is going to have lasted as long as it has. i was looking at some benchmarks of later grfx cards running with the x2 dual cores and although they aren't near as fast as the newer chips they are more than enough to game in hi def with a decent vid card.

also i'm VERY glad i went against popular opinion at the time and got a dual core processor........i ALMOST got a single core!!! so glad i didn't because it's buying me time to put together another gaming rig.

Well I'm back. I finally decided I really needed a gaming PC, but I couldn't justify building a new one from scratch. The solution? My old 939 system with an Opteron 170 in it that I had given to my parents ;)

I have to replace the processor due to overheating (it's naked and hence stock air coolers won't fit correctly on it), so I'm getting a 165 to OC the crap out of! Pared with a 4850 driving a 20" LCD I think I'm set :p

Well, I've had a x2 3800+ for about 2years. Got it when everything was being sold down and switched over to AM2. It got upt to 3Ghz on air which is my motherboards limit, although I ran it mostly at stock speeds with C&Q since it's a 24/7 HTPC/media server.

It's been put away because I just finished reviving an FX60 that had 2 pins missing. Still haven't gotten any time to play around with it other than to change the multi to 14x and run some burn-in tests. I must say I would've been disappointed if I spent over $1,000 on this chip because it doesn't seem significantly better than my 3800+. But who knows, if I can get a better overclocking board I might still have some fun yet!

Decided to join the thread, I usually just lurk but did not want this die yet. :)

Well opty 165 @ 2.4 , Asus A8V. 2GB OCZ El Platinum. 6800gt. BlueStorm 500w psu.

I was going to get a new rig, but I will wait until Core i7 Or Phenom(3?) are more fleshed out.

Probably get an AGP ati HD3850 and see if it holds me over until then...tom's hardware delcared AGP dead this month, hah!

I recently bought a Dell computer running Intel to use as an HTPC. But before you kick me out of this Socket 939 alliance, realize that I'm still using my X2 4200+ as my main rig. :)

I am posting this from my girl's rig which I handed down to her a few years back, Opty 146 at 2.75GHz with 3GB DDR400 and Radeon X1900XTX on MSI K8N Neo4 Plat. It's getting an AM2 upgrade soon but everything is still more than solid. She just wants to max Fallout 3 and L4D out :)

My Abit KN8 board just croaked, forcing me to pull out my last skt 939 board ... Jetway GT4.

The is the *3rd* Abit in the last 6 months to fail, another KN8 and a NF8 socket 754.

Abit's quality really went downhill on these models. Not only that but all 3 replacement boards, including the Jetway, overclock much better.

The Jetway is running my Opty 170 at 2.8 ghz stock voltage, Prime95 stable.

The 939 system in my sig has served me well for 4 years (looked up the Newegg order dates, Dec 2004!). I upgraded the video card somewhere in the middle, didn't start with a 7 series.

Honestly, the CPU is still quick with just under 8GB/s bandwidth (DDR500@1T) and 1MB cache. But the agp video card, it's a dead end now.

I just measured power consumption last night -- 127 wall watts under full cpu+gfx load! I didn't expect it to be that low. Haha that's like 95W if the psu is 0.75 efficient.

Wow 127 is lower than I would of thought too. My 7800gt is feeling its age now days. Still does good in source games.

My 939 is my still my main box (see sig), theres nothing it can't handle at the moment. Updates graphics to an HD 4670, copes with all games I throw at is at high settings @ 1680x1050. Cant see me upgrading anytime soon.

Holy old revival. While I bought a new HTPC w/ an Intel dual-core CPU, I'm still using my Socket 939 X2 4200+ as my daily driver.

Mines still going, I would upgrade if I had the money :/. Put a 4830 in it and got nice results. Also picked up a Freezer64 Pro for 9$ open box, got it sitting at 3ghz, but increase voltage increased the heat quite a bit. I'll have to see what the final clock will be in the summer, but its been rock solid so far.

i still have my socket 939 amd4000 single core lol. bad timing on my part.......dual cores came out shortly after i bought that system. i need a dual core 4200 or 4400 bad.

Still going strong w/ the machine in my sig, though it isn't my best machine, it is however, my beat-around machine! :)

Even getting a 3800+ X2 is a massive upgrade over a single core 4000+ (which is the upgrade I did).

i had 2 of them, both had msi k8n neo2 plat's with opty 165's with 1gb ram each. 80 gb HD's and radeon x1650 and the other with radeon 9700pro. Ah they were zippy when i first got mine.

I still got my old s939 that was my gaming box quite some time ago its now just a file server to make use of all my old IDE HDD's. I need to get a x2 chip for it though as its not really that slow of a computer outside of gaming.

still going strong with the rig in my sig. I mostly game at 1920x1200 on source engine games and this thing is a tank. Its been 3.5 years with this overclock and ive had no problems at all. Best $200 ive ever spent on a processor. Probably wont retire this chip until it dies
