Can someone recommend a Force Feedback wheel for me? I have an old Sidewinder wheel that worked the last time I used it (5 + years ago) but is not USB. Since I got all new desks in my computer room, I've now got a spot for a wheel, and my 6 year old son would get a huge kick out of it.

I've seen the G-25 and it looks NICE, but OUCH. I was thinking about spending 100 bucks.. Not 200+... Any recommendations?

Thanks.

The Logitech Driving Force GT is a great wheel, I just got one a few months ago.

It works on both PS3 and PC, and goes for $99 at BB.

you can buy a COM to USB adapter for 20 bux? on ebay or even BB....
provided the wheel still works on its own. lol and u can find compatible drivers. lol

I have an old sidewinder wheel and pedals and it is USB. Haven't used it in years. I got it specifically for Motor City Online. That was fun.

Any good PC racing games that work with these wheels?

I grabbed the Logitech Forumla Force Ex wheel+pedals

I found for someone who doesn't play a huge amount of racing games that it was a good wheel for a good price, force feedback is strong, it just works well overall.

Sometimes takes some faffing to get the force feedback working correctly with profiles and things but it's worth it in the end, DiRT with force feedback is awesome.

What did you end up going with Bohica69?

I am looking for a budget wheel my self for grid/dirt. However, I'm looking for a used one for ~$50.

theres only two options in my book- you get the momo if you cant afford the g25, simple as that.

but if you can, the g25 is stellar. h pattern shifting with momo precision and quality. cant be beat.

Cool, I'll get the momo then.

It's like $45 on craigslist here. :c)

thats what i would pay for it. no peripheral is really worth more then $200 anyway. awesome find, and please hook up dirt or grid with that wheel :)

I actually negotiated it down to $40. It looks like new... just gotta clean the dust. He said he only used it for few hours and then it just sat on the shelf.

Installing grid now!

Edit: Damn... took me almost 2 hours to get the wheel to properly work with grid. My acceleration kept maxing out with me pressing anything. In the end I just made custom controls in the game and works perfect now! Damn, graphics are amazing and so fun!

I've had my MOMO Force for a few years now an it's still going strong. Excellent wheel for the price they are asking these days... I think I payed $150 for it 3 years ago.

What games you playing with that wheel lately?

Mine's a Momo wheel and got it for $40. Apparently, the factory sent it to a pc magazine editor to be reviewed, used it for a few hours total, and after the article was done decided to sell it since it was just occupying space. I'm inclined to believe him since it still looks new except it smelled like cigarettes when i opened it :D It normally sells for $100+ so i consider myself very lucky.

I'd really like a G35 but it costs around $270 over here.

My games are usually limited to just your normal racing games like NFS series and a few others, but mostly NFS. I never could get how you're supposed to drive rally games with a wheel.

How are you supposed to drive sideways if you can't see the road? I can still drift coz i can still make out the road in urban driving (Drifting is easier with a wheel than with a joypad, you can really scrape the guardrails), but colin mcrae rally has the car running sideways on every turn, often in multiple successions. I've tried youtube for some hints but they're all ingame video's. None of them actually shows how you're supposed to 'drive' :(

For the win. :D (And, yeah, it works with DiRT and GRID.)

I checked craiglist this past weekend and saw one that was ONLY used once and came with original box and all for freaking $30, and another one in great condition for $25. Now I feel bad for getting mine for $40 even tho it was also mint.

I agree Sly. I freaking suck at dirt/grid but it's so fun with a wheel. I havn't really played a racing game since 01, so maybe if I keep practicing I'll get much better. I want to start learning to drift smoothly too. Right now it's just crappy half slides. LOL :)

Just went out yesterday and got undercover. Gonna go break out the momo wheel today :)

Boggles my mind how you can use the set the way they're set up in the picture. The brakes are stiff as heck so every time I use them I push the pedals further and further away from me. As a result either my office chair creeps backward or my pedals creep forward.

I've been wodering about that. How do you guys position the pedals? My floor is tile so i can't use the carpet grip, but all i have to do is wipe the floor clean and the pedals rubber feet will stick to it pretty good. Even then it'll still slowly move back. So it usually ends up flush against the wall.

If I'm on carpet my G25 doesn't bother me. When I first started playing my chair would swivel and rock when I'd play because of the heavy pedals, but I think my balance has improved and now I dont anymore :p I used to just use a regular solid 4 legged chair which wouldn't move, but since I moved houses I've been using this office chair which is far from "stable".

When not playing on carpet I usually put weights around the pedals to stop them moving. Just take a few plates off my weights, stick a couple behind and one on each side, doesn't really move much then.

If you can't afford the G25, the driving force GT is the next step down for about $100, I've heard good things about it, but never used one myself. That's still a 900 degree wheel, so its great for actual sim racing (GTR1/2/evo, live for speed, rfactor, etc). For more arcadish games like NFS and even GRID, a 200 degree wheel is better, and the driving force GT can do both 900 and 200 degree as far as I know.

Whatever wheel you get, I'd recommend making sure to securely fasten it to something. The plastic clamps that usually come with wheels are horrible, particularly with force feedback involved. It will flops around and eventually break, not to mention frustrate the heck out of you ingame.

I did not want to screw it to my desk, so I just grabbed a plank of wood from the local hardware store, screwed the wheel to it, wrapped some non-slip shelf mat around it (spray adhesive works great) and "C clamp" it to my desk when I want to use it. The feedback I get from the wheel is much more realistic and controllable.

C clamps not shown.

I have a G25 and have never had a problem using the plastic clamps to clamp it to my desk. However I only turn the wheel in the direction its supposed to be turned, some people have a tendancy to twist the wheel diagonally when trying to steer against force feedback.

A friend came over one time and was using my G25 and it slipped off the table with a frightening bang (frightening because I thought it was broken), luckily it was ok, its just somehow he managed to twist it off the table, which has never happened to me in the year and a half I've owned the wheel.

I had something similar with my old wheel, it was mounted to a relatively light table, and I'd never had problems with it, but when my sister tried it she damn near flipped the table over. I think its coz people try and shift their body when the car is cornering aggressively, which makes them want to twist the wheel at a diagonal rather than simply turning the wheel.

I dont use it that close.

I seat the pedals way farther back. To the point where it is completely on the carpet.
Then put a heavy box of crap behind my chair to keep it still in place.

Pedals, gear shift and wheels are super secure. (Even with the stiff brake [which I love])

Surprisingly. the game I have been having the most fun with is TDU.
I have Live4Speed, GTR2, rFactor, GRID, and DiRT.

The MP is insanely more fun now with the wheel. I bought a C6 Z06 and fully tuned it.
This thing is soooo Grimey. I think 6 or 700hp.

Rips through the gears like nothing.
I have no traction in 1st, 2nd or part of 3rd at full throttle.
Using the H shifter, clutch, and 900degree of FFB rotation makes the game much more exhilarating.

Randomly racing players up 210mph is so fun. Way more control with a wheel.
I now think that with any racing game. A wheel is a must have. (at least on PC)

another owner of a momo force logitech setup. my only wish is that it had a bit more solid feel and some more degrees of rotation, but its by far your best bet for your budget. i found that race 07 is REALLY fun and provides a great experience with the wheel. you can feel when the front tires begin understeering........pretty awesome :D

Test drive unlimited.

I own the Driving Force Pro (predecessor to the DFGT) and it is a good 900 degree wheel that can be found for 50-60.

I also own the G25 and that is the way to go if you want to have a great experience. I picked mine up off Craigslist barely used for $125:)

The biggest differences I notice are the pedals construction and feel as well as the speed of the G25's FFB motor's compared to the DFP.
