Got my D90 3 months ago and I'm learning new things every time I use the camera.

Here are some pictures I took. Not as good as the pictures here but I just want to share. :)

God I want a DSLR so bad.... so damned expensive though.

Having fun with the telephoto on my beloved FZ28:

Apparent Vignetting at the top left and lower right corners is actually because I'm a butt-tard and must have had the lens hood slightly off kilter...

Victor, those shots are amazing especially the first one where you can see his deep red eye. I long for the ability to take shots like this.....

Tonight, for the first time in my life, I made fried chicken.

The recipe is "buttermilk fried chicken" from a cookbook by Martha Stewart.

My results:

I think I did a decent job of replicating what was in the book.

Edit: It was delicious. fyi.

I'm back from Kaua'i with 600+ photos still left to sort; here's one for starters:

I've been trying to use the higher ISO settings on my D50 and the noise is so bad. Thank god for noise ninja. I have to upgrade my camera. D700 or D300 IMO is what I'm going to go with next. For now, I'll keep working on my skills.

A late upload from mother's day:

Also, besides The Exposure and the Aperture in sunlight, is there anyway to make the picture less overexposed?

Just ISO. There's also exposure bias, but adjusting it will automatically alter your shutter speed. Personally, I would've shot that at ISO 100, as 1/4000 is far faster than you need for that scene.

Also, besides The Exposure and the Aperture in sunlight, is there anyway to make the picture less overexposed?

Use ISO-200 (Doesn't D50 have a "low" setting? This should be equal to iso-100) and tighten the aperture to around 5.6 or 8 - this will darken the exposure quite a bit. 1/4000s is crazy fast; I generally only use that for action shots - you may have to slow down the shutter to between 800-2000 or slower once you find the aperture that works best.

One cheat I've started using when I'm crunched for time, is to switch the camera to auto, hold the trigger down half-way to see what settings it wants to use, then go from there in manual mode, tweaking as needed. Just to learn your camera a little better, try snapping a few in auto when entering a scene, look at the stats, and decide how you want to change it in manual.

I do that from time to time. I'll have to try the "low" setting.

^^wow - still pretty bright there. I think the sun must just be brighter where you live! :p At least the detail is still good on the main subject.

In this case, looks like you could have sped up the shutter a bit - maybe closer to 1/1000s would do the trick. Also, if you're going to be shooting a lot in bright sun like this, you might enjoy trying a polarization filter on your lens. (I've been meaning to try one of those for a while, but haven't gotten around to it yet.) Apparently it's pretty-much like putting sun-glasses on your camera – should add detail back into a lot of the bright highlights in this kind of scene.

Thanks mad-

I thought this photo came out pretty good. I guess I could have toned down the exposure on the Post Processing. I think 1000 would of made the photo way too dark.

Also, turn down the brightness on your monitor! :p

Thanks...:)

Here is a shot of a Flowerhorn Cichild. Just playing with some flash photography. What do you know? I underexposed this shot by 2 stops. Set the flash unit to manual mode, -1/32 compensation. ISO2000. It came out pretty good with a F4 lens under the aquarium light, night time.

For a bunch of photos taken on a lush green island, very few of them have much green in them:

^^great shot auric - I'm continually impressed with these landscapes.

I like the motion-blur on this water - curious what shutter speed you had to use to get this?

Thanks. The shutter speed was 1.3 seconds, aided by a 3-stop ND filter. 1 second is a good rule of thumb if you want silky water, but you can still get that sense of movement up to about 1/4th of a second, depending on how fast the water is moving.

This one was 1/8th of a second:

I was going to hold off posting for a bit, but this one just has to be seen:

Great photos Leo.

I just did my first photo shoot. Here's a sample of what I did. I hope you guys like it.

I'd watch the consistency with the exposure. Some of the shots are too high in contrast with blown highlights while others are underexposed. Compositions seem fine for a first shoot. Is your monitor calibrated?

I didn't use one. I did it all by eye. They are probably too high because of Lightroom.

I thought the overexposure looked quite good in some of them. I think as long as your doing it consciously it's alright.

Where were they taken?

Was on campus today:

I went to Arizona last week, and I took some pictures of some things on the way. I'm a pretty crappy photographer, and I've obviously touched them up. They are touched up with added color and contrast for use as a wallpaper. They were all taken from a moving car on a Nikon CoolPix L20 10.0 Mpixel digicam.
