Warm: Hanns-G HG-281DPB Black 27.5 $299.99 @ costco

looks like a pretty solid deal to me. I wish i had the money for it

I got this monitor from Newegg a while back. No dead pixels and text and games are sharp and clear. The only thing I have issue with is the viewing angle - not good at all. For instance - those red/maroon bars on the forum here, they look twice as dark when they scroll to the top of the screen as they do in the middle. You can just look at the screen and move your head around and notice the color change. Even still, I'm happy with the purchase and would buy it again. For $300 I still think it's a good purchase.

This is a hot price. I bought this for $329 at costco in January and it has been running great with no problems. If for some reason you don't like it or need to exchange it, costco makes this easy.

The viewing angle is bad but looking straight at it is not a problem. I adjusted my chair to be a little taller as if the monitor is higher than you then it will be more noticeable. For me it really doesn't change much unless I move my head.

Overall an excellent monitor, I would easily spend $300 again to buy it.

I have two HG281D's (although I've never noticed a viewing angle issue, must just be because they're positioned perfectly *shrug*) - tilting the monitor up things get a BIT darker, but nothing substantial, and everything is just as clear.

I love these things. I bought one originally and loved it so much, I just had to have two :p I don't know what the model differences are between this one and the ones I have (HG281D)

I'd say pretty hot. Mine came close to $400 shipped at newegg about 2 weeks ago.

I have had no problem with the viewing angles sitting right at it.

Ordered. Been waiting for this deal for a while now. I know that taxes and shipping is kind of a deal killer but Costco's return policy more than makes up for it.

Ooooohhh... that's tempting.

It's a good $100 more than I'm currently wanting to spend, but it's also significantly larger than what I'm currently looking at...

I think I'm going to have to pass though. If it was $50 cheaper than I wouldn't resist, but what are you going to do? If I had enough money I'd pick up four of them.

i think its a very good price i bought mine last year for 350 and that was for a refurbed one from a reseller here in california. knock on wood its still working like brand new.

I hate my life

Wanted this monitor for $300 for so long and now I wasted all my money. Absolutely great

Excellent monitor. And I certainly do not have viewing angle issues..

And I paid 329.00 for mine a couple of months ago...Well worth getting...Dont hesitate.

I bought this two weeks ago from Amazon for $349.99, and I absolutely love it. No regrets whatsoever. Keep in mind that I was coming from a 22" Samsung (225BW) which replaced a 19" Dell (1905FP). This monitor trumps the Samsung in picture quality, and beats both the Samsung & Dell in sheer size. If you're used to an Apple Cinema Display or something comparable, you may be disappointed (but then again, consider the price difference).

Here are my current settings, which I'm pretty happy with for now:

Brightness = 30 (I have turned it down to 20% at night time)
Contrast = 70
X-Contrast = off
Color setting = Nature preset
everything else = default

Mine came with zero dead pixels. I recommend using Dead Pixel Buddy to check for bad pixels.

Here are photos of my Samsung compared to the Hanns.G. You can see that the picture on the Samsung looks dull compared to the Hanns.G.

If I didn't already have this, I'd jump all over the Costco deal. With shipping and taxes, it comes out to about the same price I paid for it at Amazon, but you can't beat Costco's return policy.

If you're in the market for a display and this falls in your price range, BUY THIS MONITOR NOW! If you don't like it, simply take it back to Costco and get all your money back. I doubt you will though. :)

EDIT: just noticed my status changed from [H]Lite to Limp Gawd, LOL. Can I go back to [H]Lite? :D

If you intend to use it as a TV, there are better LCDs out there for that purpose. This is more of a computer monitor, as it lacks a TV tuner and I've read that the built-in speakers aren't worth a damn (I use my desktop speakers so I never even bothered hooking it up).

I know the trend in monitors is going to 16:9, but I like that this is 16:10 as I hate scrolling. I actually prefer the 4:3 aspect ratio on my Dell, but that isn't even offered anymore so I just have to deal.

I also purchased the HG281D monitor about 2 weeks ago. The moment I took this thing out of the box I was extremely suprised. The build quality is very good, the picture is top notch, and its huge. I went from a 22" Samsung 2253BW and I concurr, this thing trumps it by far. I just bought this as a web surfing monitor, but hell, the quality was almost on par with my old 19" Samsung 997 DF crt monitor. This is now my primary gaming monitor.

Don't hesitate on this deal if you have the money. Well worth it.

Bought this early last year for 500$ + S/H/Tax from costco and I love it. No regrets. Great for the price.

Okay.......now I'm ready to buy this. It was $350 for a while and I told myself if it drops to $300, I will bite. I can't wait for it to get here.

$369 shipped but what a great return policy.....just in case!

I've had mine since December of '07 and I love it, absolutely no complaints. It does have viewing angle issues like any TN, but its not enough to bother me at all. Its perfect for gaming which is the main thing I do with it.

These are now $329 @ Newegg w/ free shipping. Roughly the same price as at Costco, if you have to order online and ship it ($300 + $25 S/H)

costco comes with 3 year warranty and ability to return in B&M store, to me, thats a better deal

Newegg has worst return policy on LCDs. Costco has by far best. Probably worth the extra few bucks for most.

I <3 newegg but never buy HDDs or LCDs from them.

QFT - CostCo and Newegg are at the opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to returning LCD's. CostCo is a no questions asked return, and IMO it's definitely worth paying a few extra bucks to have the ease, convenience, and peace of mind that comes with CostCo's return policy.

Just got mine in today from the Costco deal (my thanks to the OP). A really nice monitor. Zero dead pixels as reported by Dead Pixel Buddy. Controls will take some getting used to, but that's a nitpick. Came with a much-needed DVI-to-HDMI cable. The backlight bleed is much better than my previous Dell 2005FPW (had to send two of those back).

I to got mine today. Little pissed that I have 2 dead/stuck pixels. Gonna try and live with it otherwise I will be returning it in hopes to get a better one.

+1 for Costco and the return policy

Try one of these methods to fix the bad pixels. If it doesn't work, and they still bug you after a few days, I'd take it back to Costco. Good luck!

Thanks for the link. I tried running Dead Pixel Buddy over night but there was no change. I was able to massage one of them back to life but it's the one in the upper lefthand corner. The last dead one is almost directly in the center. Why couldn't be the other way around.

I'd take it back and order another one, but I'm pretty picky about bad pixels on a computer monitor. That's why I prefer getting them from Costco or Amazon, rather than Newegg, TigerDirect/CompUSA or buy.com.

BTW, I was checking out the Sam's Club web site to see if they have something comparable, but they just have a more expensive ViewSonic that I think uses the same LCD panel, and a 27" Samsung S-PVA model that's over $1000.

I believe this is the best deal on a 27.5" going. I wish I had the desk space to accommodate a second one!

I'm running a 19" Dell at work, and if they'd let me bring my own monitor I'd buy another one of these in a heartbeat.

I've been checking out reviews on this thing to see if other people mirror my (positive) experiences so far, and saw some gems on youtube, lol.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUBcSeUctSA (I wish this guy would post some pics of his backlight bleed problem, most LCDs suffer from some degree of this issue)

This is the OSD menu. My settings are similar (20% brightness, 70% contrast).

Very happy with my purchase so far.

Recieved one of them today, no dead pixels. Agreed, must turn the brightness way down. So far I'm very happy.

complexx: are you doing a dual monitor setup? If so, please post pics! :)

not together. I have a 22 sammy that I'm using with the hanns 28 @home, the other hanns is in my office :( It would be nice to get the two of them together one day...for shits and giggles.
