I wonder what the fastest cpu I can get now for my Asus P5N-e, I have upgraded to 8GB OCZ ram and am looking to get a couple of those GTX260's on sale ;)

I would get an E8x00 CPU. Overclock that sucker to 4ghz + and call it a day.

This mobo is a fantastic overclocker of dual cores... quadcores not so much.

That's a pretty good idea. Or a 45nm quad and just accept the fact that you're not going to get a super OC out of it. Really depends on how long you plan on keeping that setup. If you're going to keep it over a year or so, I'd get the quad.

45nm quads aren't "officially" supported by this mobo. Lots of people report that they do work but overclockability is pretty dreadful. But yeah a quad will be quite beneficial down the line.

I guess a cheap Q6600 then? Personally, I'd take a Q6600 that gets around 3.2Ghz over a 4Ghz dual, but I run more multi-threaded apps. Gaming is kind of a wash because more and more games are multi-threaded and benefit with quad cores over dual.

Is that the 650 chipset or the 750?

650i chipset.

A Q6600 would be a good choice but still this board really struggles with overclocking quads... even with 65nm's. Something to do with power/voltage regulation going to the CPU. 3.2ghz would be on the top end I think of a 650i in terms of overclocking a quad (at least being bullet proof stable).

IMO the best bet would be an E8400 @ 4ghz. That's where this board really shines.

I would also like to add that this is from my own experience and reading other peoples experiences.

Do the q9550's work on this board? That would be nice to have 12MB cache. I run Ubuntu linux so the 4 cores would be nice.
