morning guys, quick question im currently using Windows SP2 Proffesional Edition and im contemplating if I should install Windows 7 Build 7106?? Is it worth the install or I should wait later on.?? Im such a noobie on these things and i dont even know if windows 7 comes in direct 10. Any feedback from u guys is appreciated. Been getting alot help from this forum since i started and this site is by faaaar the most helpful I ever registered in.. Cheers:)

You will hardly find a bad review of Windows 7
It is DX11 which is backward compatible with previous DX versions.
I also hear there is going to be XP emulation.

However, you take a risk downloading from P2P.
Its worth noting it hasnt been released yet and you may not be able to keep that version running for too long.

Go for build 7100... it's likely more stable than 7106 because it's a public release.

Wait for the official RC build or install 7000. Don't install any non-official builds; they're nightly builds that can have weird quirks and aren't as stress-tested as official beta/RC releases, and could have malware pre-injected.

so should i just use vista ultimate for now???? or just hold it till win 7 becomes comercialised..

i have moved from XP sp3 to windows 7's official 7000 build in February. been using it since and haven't faced any problem. planning to move to RC as soon as it gets officially released.

Staying with XP or going to Vista or going to a beta OS.....don't forget, Win7 is only "beta" right now, whatever you install will most likely "run out" when the beta period expires..and you will have to wipe and install the official release of Win7 when it comes out.

i was pretty stubborn about not leaving XP and avoiding Vista.

but I went to 7 and since install number one, i haven't regretted it. I haven't used Vista, save for a few 10 minute sessions, but 7 just has things set up a little more conveniently and efficiently than XP.

I've been using XP Pro since I got a "free" retail copy in college. I didn't exactly skip Vista, but it was an OEM copy and I sold my last system. I tried out the Windows 7 beta when it was first available, and I'll be moving to Windows 7 after it's officially released. It's gonna be killer.

I don't think Windows 7 is ready yet and sometimes I feel I'm the only person that feels that way here. There is still to much fiddling to get stuff to work right when you compare it to Vista or XP. Not everything, just some things.

Logic would dictate that when so many have no issues and one does, or a very small minority compared to an overwhelming majority, perhaps the issues aren't with the particular thing they all share in common - in this case Windows 7 - but perhaps the situation that the minority is dealing with (the hardware, the software, personal bias, etc).

I'm not saying it's just you, bigdogchris, but... I haven't seen much of anything to complain about or dislike in Windows 7 myself. I still hope they add the "Space Bar = Pause always" in Windows Media Player 12, but aside from that, pretty much everything I've ever wanted in Windows now exists in Windows 7... not much else I can offer than that for praise.

When so many "love it" and so few have issues with it, the problem can't lie with the thread that binds, aka Windows 7... it's gotta be something else.

Well, Windows 7 in its various 7xxx builds have proven to be more stable, better performing and less involved to configure on a Dell XPS 1530M, a custom I7 build, a custom P4 Northwood build, a Thinkpad T61, Thinkpad Z61, Inspirion 1530, HP 8530p, and a Dell XPS 410. I've put it on each of these models and without fail it installs out of the box with better device support and better compatibility and performance than either Vista or XP.

In terms of hardware support, outside of very old hardware (old video cards - a shame) its device support seems to be a complete superset of Vista, and the troubleshooting wizards almost always find drivers for components that weren't included with the initial CD.

I only wish Vista SP1 provided the clean, headache-free computing experience (for me) that Windows 7 build 7000 beta provided... and 7100 seems nigh flawless.

I've been an early adopter moving to every new OS on the first day of retail availability since Windows 3.0. Windows 7 is up there with 95 and 2000 as a release I am looking forward to--something I didn't get with XP and definitely not with Vista.

using Windows 7 RC 7100 from WinXP SP3 and I have to say Win7 is defiantly a upgrade I will be making when its Officially Released, it's what Vista should of been.

by the way guys can windows 7 (any build version) can they see my 4gb of ram??

you need a 64bit operating system to see more than 4GB of ram. in this case, you need a 64bit version of windows 7 (any build) to use more than 4gb of RAM.
