Aneesh Chopra, Secretary of Technology for the sate of Virginia, has been selected to fill the post of the nation’s first Chief Technology Officer.

The president announced the choice in his weekly radio and Internet address today, adding Chopra to a small group of advisers whose aim it is to enhance and modernize the delivery of government services. "Aneesh will promote technological innovation to help achieve our most urgent priorities -- from creating jobs and reducing health care costs to keeping our nation secure."

Another Indian-American taking an IT job.

Anywho, there's a pretty good article of @ the Wash.Post about Mr. Chopra.

Cliff
-fostering the development of Virginia's technology
-Chopra studied health care policy at Johns Hopkins University and Harvard University
-in 1997 landed at the Advisory Board Co ., where he runs a group that advises executives on ways to make health care operations more effective.
-the implementation of a $2 billion contract that will outsource the state's technology infrastructure and calls for hundreds of government workers to join the private sector.
-leading investor in Torrent Networking Technologies
-Chopra concedes that he's not an expert on the inner workings of technical systems.

So, does anyone think the newly-formed WH CTO position will be to build a group/team that designs the administrations plans for an updated Health Care System? And when they say "outsource" government jobs to the private sector, that better mean the Fed won't be outsourcing overseas; if his new position is anything like his old. Just so I, and a few millions others, are clear.

/me waits for someone to tie this to Slumdog Millionaire in some really abstract sort of way...
