I'm curious to see pictures of desktops/workstations with lava lamps lingering around.

lol, this is quite an odd and really specific request... I guess you must be looking to place some lava lamps on your desk huh? After doing a bit of searching it seems like running a lava lamp or two when you are at home/work won't increase your electricity much and it might be fun to look at... But then again how often would you really look at it? A plasma bulb might be fun since you can somewhat interact with it... I remember seeing some small fiberoptic "plants" that change color though you could only really use it when it's dark... Anyway, I found this picture, I hope it helps? :p

Well, as a teenager, I had 3 lava lamps on my desk that stayed up with me all hours of the night. I somehow lost them during undergrad, but now as a graduate student, I'm looking to collect again. Plus, I think that ownership of a lava lamp says something interesting about a person. What that something interesting is...I do not know. :)

I have a lava lamp but it takes so long to warm up and eats electricity and puts out a lot of heat.

now a lava lamp type setup IN a case would be bad ass.

they are just mineral oil with wax globs in them, yes? should be easy to fabricate.
edit: looks like they are rubbing alcohol and mineral oil for the DYI'r

A lava lamp in a case? Now that would be interesting. A water-cooled lava lamp in a case? Even more interesting.

yeah I was thinking something like a square loop that goes around the window on the side. light it up and heat it up on the bottom, let it circulate.

lol usb lava lamps. If one of those pop up here, this thread would be full of win already.

lava lamps? what's next, G.I. Joes?

Hey, I have a bad-ass G.I. Joe... my wife made me put it away though....
The Mighty Thor stands guard over my system... and there's no wife around to make me put him away. ;)

Found a really old picture from when I had my lava lamp on my desk. That 15" monitor makes me shiver :(

I guess I won't be posting my old Apple IIe, monochrome green monitor, twin disk drive and lava lamps.... that would just date me... compared to that 15" LCD
