Core 2 Quad 8200 $99 at Microcenter

As much as this is a hot deal, the PH2 920 special newegg had a couple weeks back was a far better deal. Sure it was 35 bucks more (though less than 35 bucks if newegg doesn't charge tax in your area) though it is a much faster chip at stock as well when you oc (and it can oc much better)

60 something in fairfax VA.

i would probably buy it just to mess with it but my mobo doesnt support it.

My mobo *does* support it (in fact, it supports every Yorkie Intel makes in LGA775), and that price is the same as the Wolfdale (E7400) I was considering as a crossgrade from my overcranked Celly DC E1200.

Oh my; that's Just Plain Wrong....Fairfax, VA *still* has twenty-six in stock. (DC area customers, this MC is the easiest of the area's two to get to; take the Orange line to Vienna (the station itself is right on Nutley Street) and walk two blocks south to Lee Highway (US 29) and the Pan Am Shopping Center; MC is next door to Michael's (opposing end from Safeway); there's even a McDonald's in the shopping center in case you're too early and need breakfast.)

23 now... I want to get one. but I'm a cheap ass and I keep on saying to myself... do I really need it. Agh!!! Why can't I have a 100k + job?!

I'm kicking myself right now...just bought a X2 7750 Kuma a week ago. Got it for 49 free shipping brand new on eBay though, so I'm not kicking tooo hard.

But sweet deal...go get em'

Did you check the Rockville one?

Pretty sure 965 chipsets can't support 45nm chips.

p5b dlx is 965 and runs 45nm, depends on the board, the gigabyte i think will do 45's

as for on topic...this is a meh, depends on what you are using it for, maybe not bad for a home server or a stock clock... but in a gaming rig i'd run an e8400 or e7400 @ 3.9-4ghz on 2 cores then the q8200 with 4.

it's a good price but its uses are limited i think.

Did you check the Rockville one?

Current word from Rockville is that they are out (apparently, so is Fairfax for now); however, MC's inventory system has been known to *hiccup* at the end of the evening (and Fairfax had 26 earlier today), so I'll check again early tomorrow (Wednesday).

I'm in Prince George's (not Montgomery) County in Maryland (just below National Harbour), which is why Fairfax, VA is closer than Rockville (also, Virginia has a lower sales tax bite than Maryland).

I'm VERY familiar with the location of the Rockville MC (I shopped there both when it was a CompUSA and since) and it happens to suffer the misfortune of being the same distance between two different Metro stations (and, in both cases, further than the two block walk the Fairfax MC is from the Vienna station); therefore it's cursed with a bad (for me) location as well as a worse (compared to Fairfax) tax bite.

I live in PG County too but around CP area. I goto the Rockville Pike one on the weekends. It is much better than the store that was there

Wow, I'm in PG County too, was gonna try fairfax, but just didn't have the time today. Better luck next time I guess.

Remember, I mentioned the Late Evening Hiccup.

As of 9 AM Eastern Time, Fairfax, VA has four Q8200 CPUs in stock, and Rockville, MD has ten.

If you're going to move at all, today's the day.

3 in stock, now. Don't just walk in hoping to get one. Order it online and have them keep it for you.

edit: Whoops, its gone now.

Keep watching inventory day to day at your stores. Detroit had 15 yesterday and shot up to 32 today. So they are still getting them regularly.

Damn! I try to save money, but noooooo! I just bought a e7400 setup and now there is a quad for the same price that i had to buy and put my e7400 on the shelf. Bought it today. Damn Microcenter. ;)

I wish Newegg carry these too on sale for $99 with shipping that would be hot cakes !!!, I am still waiting for good deal on CPU anytime any moment. Grrrr to MC SOB MOFO @!

The microcenter in OC/Tustin still had 61 of these yesterday. Pretty good deal but I think the e5200 offers more OC'ing bang for your buck. Either which way you can't really go wrong.

Rockville, MD had just four earlier, but has sixty-nine (yeesh) now. (Fairfax, VA is currently out, but will likely reload later today.)

This is not just cheap quad-core, but cheap quad-core for the same price as cheap dual-core (remember, the E7400 is the same price, while this is less than the E8400).

This is also priced down there with Phenoms, so this isn't exactly good news for AMD's processor group (however, it's likely great news for AMD's Graphics Division).

Paterson, NJ still has plenty. I snagged one, but thought better of it- my fileserver is running off an 80W brick. While it will work (confirmed with another quad), I don't want to push it.

If anyone wants mine (clarifying: Q8200 still sealed, just can't return it per MC's return/exchange policy on some components), PM me. Not looking to profit, just recoup my cost- $103+S&H takes it.

somebody snatch that up. I'm tempted myself since I have no access to a MC

Picked one up once the Dallas location got more in stock. The guy working there told me they're taking a big loss on these and were expecting people to be buying builds around these. :p

Luckily for them I needed cheap 4GB RAM and mobo to pair with this. Picked up Intel quad barebones for a tad under $200... not too shabby.

I can't seem to find an updated CPU support list online. Anybody know if this will run in an MSI P6N SLI Platinum?

680i's take 45nm duals, NOT QUADS.

you'd ahve to upgrade your board :(

PS: if anyone needs someone to pick up a Q8200 from the MC in north Jersey I'd be glad to. you'd have to cover the cost of the chip (obviously) plus tax (only 3% at the MC in NJ), and then costs of shipping. Some extra cash for my time and gas would be nice since I've been laid off :) :)

This beats an E8400, right? I think the E8400 clocks higher, but this has fours cores. Granted, I don't actually think I have anything that'd take advantage of fours cores, but still...I guess it depends on what you're using this for.

And as far as the GA-965P-DS3, I think I read around that people were having successes running E8400's on Rev 3.3's (as said above), so I don't see why a Q8200 wouldn't work.

Should I stick with my Q6600 or pick one of these up? My MC still had a bunch.

this is worse than a e8400 an q6600. Good price, bad chip. horrible OC'er

Its not horrible, just not good due to the low multiplier.

which you can still get around as well, if you have a decent motherboard. most can do 450 FSB easily. so you can get 3.2 ghz, which is about 3.4-2.5 on a kentsfield clock scale (this is a yorkfield)
