Good monitor WITHOUT annoying blue led?

I'm looking for a good all-around monitor (desktop work and gaming) that DOES NOT have a blue power led.

I absolutely hate blue LEDs - they are too bright and hurt my eyes. I can deal with green LEDs. This might sound crazy, but I can't be the only person who has noticed the electronics industry shifting to all blue LEDs for products.

I was considering the Dell UltraSharp 2209WA , but of course it has a bright blue led. I have considered de-soldering the led, but I don't have those kind of skills and it might be impossible. I could always put black tape over the led, but that seems like a crappy solution.

Any thoughts or ideas?

unusual request
what do you have in mind CRT or LCD?

Some monitors have the option of turning off the power LED from within the OSD. My LG 226WTQ, for example. Not what I would call a "good" monitor, but if it has that option, I'm sure there must be others.

Yah; I personally am OK with blue LEDs, but I have noticed they are showing up everywhere. I put LG Blueray players in both of my comps and they have bright blue LEDs. They are to bright for shure. I have a Dell 2709W and the power button is a bright blue LED and it is tuch sensitive so you can not black it out. I think that this is too picky of a detail to rule out Dell displays, because some of them are a good deal for the price, and finding a good display is hard to do in the first place.

Anyone have any experience with modding LED colors or reducing brightness of LEDs?

they should use diffuse leds, but instead most vendors like to use high-brightness leds :(

What he said. Don't pass on a good LCD because of the power light. Which lcds (forgetting the power led) where you looking at?

The current deal that people are freaking out over is the Dell 2209WA LCD for $230 minus whatever coupons. It is IPS instead of TN. I don't like the way the buttons look on the right side (but I am picky about things). Everyone seems to think it is the best all-around for desktop work, gaming, and movies. I have a small desk so 24 inches would be just too big, considering I sit about 24 inches from the monitor.

Isn't it pretty common for monitors these days to have funtion in the menu where you can turn it off? I know the LG W2600HP I had for a few weeks had it, and my current Eizo SX2761W does too. like the OP I can't stand bright blue leds, so being able to turn it off is a godsend!

This thread is ridiculous. As it was already mention, electrical tape of a black sharpie. Its amazing some people will actually turn away a great LCD because of something that take 30 seconds to remedy... sad.

As I mentioned, I am PICKY about certain things. I hate blue LEDs and some other people do also. Blue LEDs are much brighter than your average older green or red LEDs. Having an eye-piercing blue light in a darkened room when you are watching a video or playing a game is DISTRACTING.

I am still considering getting a monitor with a blue LED (since almost all of them have blue leds now). I am just looking for ideas or suggestions to reduce the harshness of the LED without resorting to the old "black tape" method.

I am still leaning toward the Dell 2209WA if I can get some feedback (specifically on gaming performance), (Yes I know there is a huge thread about the monitor - but I would like to see a concise review).

I'm completely with you on this. Manufacturers are just doing it because it's a fad, but the high frequency nature of the color blue (on the light spectrum) definitely make it unsuitable for lights that are in your face for a long period of time. Personally I am a fan of red (easy on the eyes.) I have thought about modding certain peripherals more than once because of stupid LED's.

Currently I've used a post-it note to diffuse the LED on the front of my case, but of course that isn't a pretty solution. I suppose I could unplug it, but I hate having wires inside my case that aren't attached to anything (yeah, silly I know.)

OK I just fixed mine. Black electrical tape works on my 2709W. I assume that the 2209W uses the same tuch sensitive power button. Take a hole puncher and make your self a nice round piece of black electrical tape. Then put it over the power button and your problem is solved.

My LG's have blue LEDs but they are diffused around the power button.

I have a Gateway 22 inch LCD. It has the option of turning down the brightness of the LED's. They are much dimmer.

I found the blue led on the 2209 quite subtle. The green light on my LP2475W is far worse.

my bluelight on my 2253bw is fine its behind the monitor and just shines down

I don't get the big deal with using black tape. Practically the first thing I did with my antec Solo case. Covered all the BRIGHT blue LEDs with black tape. I could have just disconnected them, but this way I still see a faint light if I look for it.

But hey you would love my NEC. You can pick the color and brightness (or off) of the LED. I use blue, lowest brightness.

Get one of those little silicon bumpers for kitchen cabinet doors and put that over the LED. It should diffuse and decrease the light without obscuring it completely. Or get some nailpolish of whatever your preferred color is and "paint" the end of the led with it.

Get the Dell 2209WA. You won't be sorry. They are fantastic for gaming. My brother-in-law just got two, and I was over there today. The power buttons are not especially bright - I never noticed them, and I do know what you mean about distracting blue LEDs. My Antec P180B case has a blue power LED that is so piercingly bright that I had to put four layers of duct tape over it to get it down to a normal dimness.

I hear you. I want a new case also (my old coolermaster elite can't handle long video cards). I replaced the blue led in it with a green one. It was fairly easy to do - all kinds of kits/colors available (example : http://www.startech.com/item/BEZELWRKIT-ATX-Case-Front-Bezel-Wire-Kit.aspx.)

I really hope the Dell 2209WA lives up to the hype.

NEC 2690 has LED which can be set to blue or green and its intensity can be modified. Great! :)
I think NEC 2490 has the same power LED.

Alhogh my girlfriend has old BenQ FP91G+ whose green power diode is quite good. It was made before annoying blue LEDs become popular :(

My Creative speakers have very annoying large blue power LED. I put some stickers on it ;)

I ordered the Dell 2209WA. I really hope it is good as people say. I'll also be working on a way to change that power led to green.

I have black electrical tape on my Antec Solo very bright blue LEDS, My Denon Receivers red LEDs, My Creative Speakers blue LED...

If it distracts me while watching movies (my computer is in the living room working as HTPC), I cover it up. I wouldn't make this an when buying equipment.

Some tape usage you have :)
It is quite strange to use a blue LED as blue is the most energetic light, so most stressful on eyes.

It is. Great PC monitor. I love mine.

Yellow tape should do the trick. With lights, blue + yellow = Green. Problem solved!
