Zipzoomfly has the Asus 1000HE netbook for $379 shipped, but if you go here:

Mac OSX Leopard can be installed on it and works full sans lan port and wlan. If you replace the wireless card ($20 on ebay; best to either get a dell 1490 card for wireless-g or a BCM94321MC for wireless-n), the netbook is fully compatible with Mac OSX leopard with the exception of the lan port, but the wireless will work.

Compare that with $389 + 20 for memory plus shipping on newegg and you save around $70 on this (probably) best netbook on the market.

Not sure what you people aren't seeing. Just add both items to your cart. Netbook goes to 339.99 and the memory to 19.99.

Ok i just ordered this, this is a HOT deal, when i saw the thread title i thought this would be for the blue version, this is just what i have been waiting for!


you have to get this memory, the link is right at the top http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=90061 what i did the first time was added the patriot ram that is under the accessories at the bottom, that why i had trouble,
 
Nevermind about the info about OSX, it was wrong and outdated. There *IS* a working ethernet lan driver now for this thing ( http://files.me.com/bno2005/km5z9e) , making only the wireless not working. This is fixed however by installing one of the above mentioned cards from ebay, so overall the 1000HE is completely Mac OSX Leopard comptible after the wireless upgrade.
 
About what I paid a month ago ($365 fo the pre-order)

Then had a 2GB stick from upgrading another laptop at some point... so paid nothing for that.

Awesome deal for ~$350... retail was supposd to be $400 on these...

Battery pooching out the bottom kills it for me. When I get a netbook I need it to be thinner like the HP. Call me vain.:p Definitely hot though.

I had a wanted a netbook for awhile, but didn't want to spend over $350 and didn't like the compromises I was seeing in the lower price models, so I waited. Yay for me, where's my cookie? :cool:
 
Jumped on this one...after I canceled my mini 9 order that I placed the other day :\

April 14th ship date from dell FTL.
 
My roommate just got one, he loves the 9 hour battery life. He probably should have just got a laptop, but I think he understands the trade-offs for ultra-portability and battery life.
 
I go back and forth on that all the time. Currently I'm on 12" laptop while looking at selling and picking up a netbook again :p.
 
Hey this deal looks done to me... I put the netbook and the 2gig patriot stick of ram that I see on the page into my cart at the same time and I got a total of $404. Am I doing something wrong or is this dead?


edit - ah looks like I was right... well I imagine something similar will pop up eventually...

EDIT: Nevermind, deal seems dead...strange, they didn't leave it until they said they would...too many orders?
 
Maybe they just ran it until they were OOS. Good way to blow through inventory if they are hoping for extra business while people are browsing. I wonder how far off the actual cost they were offering them. I can't imagine there's a super high margin for retailers on these things.

That was my first thought. I've had the HP Mini 1137 for just a few days, but it gets VERY hot and becomes uncomfortable for basic browsing in my lap after only 5 minutes. At about the 10 minute mark, you can get burnt if you're in boxers. :( I like the formfactor, but the heat output, the tiny trackpad, 2-3hr battery life, and eye fatigue inducing glossy panel kill it for me.

For those of you that have this netbook, does it get hot? Even the HP's trackpad got hot enough to burn my finger after extended use.
 
Anyone know how much faster this is compared to the N270? Is this N280 even faster?

It's slightly faster due to a higher clock speed and higher FSB but really not THAT much.
 
yeah i ordered it and the page actually said it ended 3/31/09 at 11:59 pm...well i ordered it at 9 am on 3/31 and i didnt get the deal, even called them about it they wouldnt honor the deal...i went ahead and bought it but im not terribly happy with how they did that...
 
What was their reasoning for not honoring the deal? it clearly stated 3/31 11:59pm and your order was clearly put in before that....

They have a similar deal on this right now up until April 10th. The price isn't as good but you get the netbook and 2GB of memory for 399.98.
 
actually the netbook and memory regular price come out to about $420ish...thats what i ended up getting charged at least
 
I got my dad in for one of these when they came up, he's been wanting a good long lasting netbook.
