Ikea desk gallery

The IKEA computer holder thing can hold A LOT of weight.. if someone was holding the table steady, I could probably stand in it, lol. (I weigh around 175lb) Realistically, I'd say it will hold 100lb.

i think it would bend and then break with that much weight in it :p

seriously though it is pretty solid once you get it mounted (is screwed/tensioned into place, so it could be pulled loose). i was slightly concerned looking @ pictures of it, but once i mounted it and leaned on it really hard i wasnt worried.

definitely not a required piece but it just finishes the cable management setup and gives a clean look.

A 60lb+ watercooled full size computer in the holder doesn't even stress/bend the holder. That's why I said it could probably hold 100lb. :p

I am still sadly in the process of getting everything finished up and than just need to clean this place up as my computer is going wonky. I agree with w1retap though, I have the cpu hold and in it is a Antec 1200, 9 hard drives, Corsair HX1000 and other goodies and that sucker weights a good amount of weight.
The unit is so firmly attached that if I shake it, my whole desk shakes and it has two side pieces attach to make it 7 feet one way and 6 feet the other way. The only thing I did was toss the ikea straps and bought tow straps from Home Depot. I would just be afraid of it falling over or something else and these were rated at 200 lbs, so I should be safe. :D

Being an IKEA epmloyee I really love this thread.

Keep it up. Your keeping me employed!!!!

guyss, can you show me exactly how it mounts to the underframe? I have a jerker and this item would be PERFECT to get my tower off the floor(its dusty and hairy down there, i have a yellow lab who's everywhere) so if you can show me how it mounts....so i can see if it would work on a jerker, id appreciate it. it says also works on table tops, but the jerker doesnt meet the 3/4" requirement.

I just got a jerker, leather black chair, and some Ikea bookshelf for $50! It's just the flat desk style Jerker, meaning it doesn't allow extra shelves on the top region. I might make a monitor shelf using a shelf and some legs.

better headphones and a better camera are on my list

Umm very nice this is very clean and i like that, and i have the same speakers as you and you gave me an idea when i order my ikea.

how hard was it to do in wall wiring for the lights and speakers? looks so clean that way

Not hard at all. Once you fish wires in a wall, you'll get a better feel for it and it won't seem as intimidating. The wall in the picture was an interior wall, so I just drilled a 1/4" hole, fished a metal chain inside to hang, and pulled it out at the bottom with a magnetic pen. That way I could route the wires in and out of the wall. The rear Z-5500 satellites were tricky since they are on an exterior wall. All of the speaker wires run behind the baseboard and come out together to the back of the sub.

The cpu mount is actually narrower than I imagined it would be, if you got it than you would probably need to make your own mounts to the Jerker as it's a very wide table, unless you don't have the flat Jerker but the one with shelving above it. If that is the case than sorry as I just had the flat Jerker. :(

KevanB, I did that when I had the Jerker, changed it to the Galant as I needed so much more space but look at the Capita legs and Lack shelving. Those should help you out, if not, the third time I made monitor risers I believe I literally used a drawer front and just attached the legs. Not sure of the name but I can look to see if the tag is still on it as its in the closet now.

Hopefully that helps. :):)

Hey guys, nice desks :3
Im getting a new desk this week and i have a questions about the fredrik
http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/40111124
Does the signum cable holder fit on it?
http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/50035115

If so how easy is it to fit?
Do you need to just drill it on??
Help will be greatly appreciated!!

It looks like you will be able to fit one of the signum cable holders on to it, maybe two if you place them on top of each other for an end to end system. If you do use them though, drill the mounts to the desk while its upside down, it makes it a lot easier than laying on your back and trying to do it than.

Nice install Keep the volume up, I really like the flush lights and the way you ran the wires. Another way I was taught to fish wires [Iworked for Brinks Home Security] is to drill a small hole for the wires, drop your wires into the holes, make another small hole on the bottom of the wall, and try and grab the wires with a hook [Wire hanger works great]. I was going to fish my wires throught the wall, but I'm just renting and I don't think the owner would appreciate even more holes :p..

So how did you get the lights to stay inside the shelf? and which set of lights are they?

The chain method I use has to be much easier, since the weight of the chain drops straight down, and having a magnetic pen pulls it right out. Hollow/interior walls are pretty easy, as long as you know where the studs are.

The lights are the round IKEA Dioders, in white. That shelf is the longer IKEA Lack, cut down to the exact length as the desk. The lights are just fastened with the double-sided tape that comes with them. I ran the wires inside the shelf and out the back, through the wall and down behind the desk, similar to the way you did yours.

If I were you I would go ahead a drill two small holes to route the wire through the wall. Can be easily patched/sanded when you move out. Plus, after seeing how professional it looks, I don't see much of a problem.

Can you tell your boss to bring back the Jerker? (why they discontinued it is beyond comprehension) I need another one. :D

KeepTheVolumeUp: awesome setup! Is that a Lack shelf on top with the lights drilled/mounted into it? Cool idea, love the backlighting too! I just picked up the exact same desk, thanks for the inspiration.

I don't really have an Ikea near me, but I might be able to get some extra lack shelves from the same place I got the desk (moving sale). For the legs I might do this:

Thanks for the tips Sparkyy :)

The top shelf is the bigger Lack, cut about 12" off one end, to the width of the Jerker (63"). The 4 lights are the Dioder LEDs in white. I wanted real white lighting at night if needed. The backlighting consists of 3 Cyron 15" lightbars. 2 of them are on each side of the monitor/HDTV, and the third one is inside the computer case. I am using an Antec 300 case currently while I build it for someone, so the light inside is not really put to use. My actual case is a modded Antec 900 with a bigger window -- so the 3 multicolor lights will tie together nicely :D

Good luck and post some pictures

Is that bamboo as your background?

It's from a series of great wood walls from Deviant Art... there's some great textured walls too... I like my desktop extremely simple and clean :D

What do you think of the chair? comfortable enough?

I love the chair... it's very comfortable. Due to the design, it offers less resistance against you than traditional foam padding... so it's kind of like being suspended in air. I guess it really depends on what you like and how you're built... I'm tall and thin, so I like it :)

Would post mine, But I'm not using my galant right now. Its up in my room and my setup is downstairs in the basement. Hopefully moving it down here once there's more room. More likely this summer.

i'm probably blind, but how are you powering your speakers?

By the looks of it, he's powered them through a logitech subwoofer. But I barely know anything on how monitors are powered, though I am pretty sure it is through a logitech subwoofer because of the sub under the desk and the controller on the desk.

Exactly what thecomputeraddict said.
I'm using my Logitech Z-2300s amp to power them... sounds excellent and saves room.

That's a really neat idea! I was looking for a good 2.1 solution to use with my Infinity bookshelfs other than a receiver. Only problem is that no one just sells the subwoofer/remote.

Well its 2/3 of the way there. Probably tmw I may finish the other side :D

2 24 inch pmva soyo's, and 1 37 inch westinghouse. The soyo's are mounted onto the sides of my jerker desk with monorprice mounts, $12 each :D. I drilled 2 extra holes in the monoprice mounts to make sure it would be more stable and lined the holes up with the holes in the jerker arms :)

props to quique55 to mount it onto the jerker arms by drilling additional holes ;) :p :D

You may also want to take a look at the Sonic Impact T-Amp. It will power your Infinity bookshelf speakers well, and if you want to add a sub into the system it, it's quite easy. Just take the cables from the amp to the sub, and from the sub's out to your bookshelves. :) Also, if you really want to you can power it with AA batteries. :p

I do the same for my Energy C-100s and Klipsch Sub-10.
