So I have just started my own company and am attending a trade show with the local chamber of commerce. I wanted to build a new rig to showcase on my booth that really set me apart from the other firms attending. I realize that making computers like this for clients will probably represent a fraction of what I do, but I really wanted to blow minds with this thing. Some architecture choices and loop design might go against the grain of what should make the perfect rig, but I am very happy with the results.

This is a DFI 790gx-m2rs with a phenom II 940, mushkin ascent ram, a 300 and 150 gig v.raptors with a 1terabyte drive for data, gtx295 and silverstone 750w ps.

Cooling is 2 mcp355's with xspc tops, 3/8 in tubing and compressions with misc bitspower 90's and rotary 45's, Anfi-tec cpu, pwm and chipset blocks and an ek block for the video card. There are 3 tfc 360 rads with a total of 14 nexus 120mm fans. The bios says 18C for the cpu temp (but that's obviously with next to NO load going on). It is also absolutely silent. I mean you can not hear a damn thing what so ever.

I would like to make a special thank you to Andre at Anfi-Tec for getting parts to me in time to complete this project on time and also for putting up with me being the most impatient customer ever. You make amazingly high quality blocks; I am extremely happy with them!

Anyways, on to the pics. I'm sure this build will evolve in the weeks ahead. It doesn't even have an OS on it. It posts and all hardware is recognized. Thats good enough for me to sit on a table with no monitor attached =)

I fail to see how this is a rip off of murderbox. I mean they are totally different cases, architectures, color schemes... anywho, thanks for the positive feedback guys!

Murdermods can't patent the color white over a dark background. Besides, is that the most supportive thing you could've said?

The mod is great; good job pwolfe. Hope you're happy, I wanted a Pinnacle so bad but stuck with my FT01.

Beautiful job, love it. Nothing about it screamed Murderbox to me. It doesn't even resemble it. I guess that's going to be the new craze though; to state that any clean mod stole from the murderbox.

that is a great mod, clean setup, well executed. I love the color scheme.

correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't that basically a total rip off of murderbox?
threadcrap much? murdermods is pretty new iirc, so aren't they ripping off everybody who has made a clean two colored water cooling box before? It's just absurd to even think that.

oh i'm sorry i wasn't aware that you aren't allowed to do anything but kiss ass in the worklogs forum. I was just voicing my opinion that it looks very similar to a murderbox model that has the same white dominator-esque heatsinks, white tubing, etc, and of course the single wire sleeving throughout. that system was obviously built before yours, hence, a rip off. honestly i couldn't care less either way, just thought I'd mention that. excuse me, i won't crap on your thread anymore.

your build looks sweet, btw. good work.

Why is it no-one considers a similar build a tribute, instead of a rip-off?

Besides, ALL commercial modding stems from enthusiast modding that goes back years before. How about a mention that murderbox is taking ideas from the enthusiast community and making money on them... Have you seen them offering to pay anyone in the community for their ideas?

well it isn't my mod, and no you don't have to kiss ass on the threads. However instead of saying that it's a rip off of a murder box, you could have said that it looks similar to a nice muderbox mod you've seen. You can still compare the two in a constructive manor. Stating that it's a rip off gives a very negative spin to your comments and is thread crapping, especially because this is a very nice mod. Because it happens to resemble a mod you've seen in the past doesn't make it a rip off. Even if the builder has seen another mod that looks similar to this, it's an influence on him, not a blueprint on building the mod. It would be much the same as if when an artist has an influence they are called out for "ripping off" another artist. If you compare artists of similar styles they will look similar yet they all have differences. That's how the artistic community grows. This is also how the modding community grows. Nobody has the corner on one idea and no two modders will get to the end result in an exact manor. Calling this a rip off would only come into play if the modder saw a murderbox and then used the exact same hardware (case, mobo, tubing, waterblocks, etc...)down to the screws and techniques used in the previous mod.

Murdermods isn't the first and won't be the last to use a certain color combination, maybe you should email them about how they've ripped off previous modders. I bet going way back in these forums you could find all kinds of mods that were built pre murderboxes that resemble them. My guess is that it wouldn't be taken too kindly.

Next time, give your opinions in a respectful manor and you won't get all butt hurt over responses calling you out.

Sorry not meaning to thread jack this post. I just happen to feel this is a nicely done mod and doesn't deserve this kind of crap.

off soapbox

oh believe me, i'm not butthurt. but you're right - rip off wasn't the right choice of words.

I believe it is MCP that you are thinking about BTW, his PC-A70 was the one with the white tubing and the arctic freezer ramsinks painted white. Murderbox was using clear tubes with blue Feser one liquid and all black braided cables when it first debuted. But credit to the OP, that is a beautiful piece of work you've put together. Haven't really seen too many people use that shade of grey before and it looks awesome. Great work.

Thanks for all the feedback guys!

If I can put a little of this back and forth to rest. I definately took design cues from other builders. MCP's build is definately where I fell in love with the white on black, and murdermods is definately where I fell in love with sleeved cables. I think we all find inspirations in other peoples builds and try to build on their ideas.

I said I was making this for a trade show, but I'm not trying to do what murdermods has done and created a business out of a single modded case (I'm not dogging them, I applaud them for being able to do so.) I am a one man consulting firm atm. I just wanted something shiny on my booth that drew people in and struck up coversation. I just don't want any illusions about what I was trying to do with this build.

About the gray color, I was asked in another forum if I did the painting myself. I did not; the case was painted by a friend who owns a paint and body shop, and the color was something we mixed up there that night. We started with a white paint and slowly added black until we had the gray I was looking for. On top of the color there are 4 stages of clearcoat. Pictures do not do it justice, it looks like you could reach your finger to touch the color but you just cant get your finger close enough. The paint is top notch, no orange peeling, no runs, and the color is solid throughout.

"Good artists copy, great artists steal." Or so the saying goes :)

The white tubes gives me the impression of artificial blood flowing through them for some reason. Must be me :p Looking good.

Very nice mod. Yes, it has some Muderbox "characteristics", but whatever, I like it. My only grip would be that I think the tubing could use some more work. It seems a bit messy they way some of the cross over one another.

I agree actually. I had a path laid out without the crossing tubes, but there were pinches in the tube. This was the best way I could get the tubes to not pinch. I guess I could have ordered some more bitspower rotaries and gotten a little creative, but I had gone WAY over budget as it was.

Good looking rig. I hope it draws you some attention at your trade show and nets you some orders. And so what if it resembles other people's work? Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and there are only so many different ways to mod. We all get our inspiration from different places, and it's usually from something of someone else's - not original thought.

Hmm... Is there a reason you have the radiator with the connections close to the front? If it was switched around, you'd have a shorter hose going to the CPU area and straight down, instead of snaking across the front of everything, and the other hose would go above the power supply and behind the HDs and be mostly hidden.
