Hello -
I have a sapphire 4870x2, and I recently got a DVI-> HDMI cable so I could have my computer hooked up to my TV via HDMI and my monitor at the same time (the are in close rooms so I just needed a long cable).

Once I plugged in the DVI->HDMI cable into DVI out 2 on my card - everything was perfect, I could see the display on my monitor and it was being cloned to my TV via the ATI control panel, and it all worked as expected.

I ended up moving my computer around and then re-plugged in my TV into DVI out 2 (the one on the right), and forgot to plug in my monitor to DVi out 1, but it all booted up fine, and I could see everything on the TV.

Once I plugged my monitor back into the card into DVI out 1 (on the left), my monitor wouldn't come on. And now, even after the computer has started, only the DVI output 2 sends a signal, so I have to only have 1 thing connected at a time.

Can anyone help me figure out what I did to disable the dvi out 1? Thanks for any help!

cats/display manager/display properties is display 2 enabled (right click on it)? try force detecting displays?

vanilla - thanks for the info and yep I've tried that - when I right click it says that there is no display connected, I click "force detect" and nothing happens....Its like its not even registering that I have something plugged in. I wonder if something got changed in the bios when I booted up with only a plug into the second dvi out?

go into bios and disable plug and play.

basic stuff - cables cocked?
tv switched to correct input?

edit which drivers are you using? can you check to see if both outputs work in safe mode?

Disabled plug-n-play, no luck. re-enabled, still no luck.

I'm starting to wonder if I 'fried' the DVI output 1 on the card, because I can hook my TV to output 2 and it comes on fine, I can hook my monitor to output 2 and it comes on fine. I reinstalled the 9.2 driver, but still nothing if I plug into dvi output 1. When I plug either into output 1 (with the other screen plugged into output 2), still nothing won't even detect it.

Might have to use that 2 year warranty to exchange for a new card.

About to see if both outputs work in safe mode, but I don't think so. Last time I was messing with it, anything plugged into DVI output 1 just wouldn't even come up - not even show the boot up/post screen

Leave both displays on after a reboot, you SHOULD get the POST on both screens. If not you very well could have damaged a DVI port.

Leaving both plugged in, I do NOT see a post on both screens, only the one that is attached to DVI output 2 (I have swtiched and tried a few times).

Looking like I may have a damaged DVI output 1....not sure how the heck that would have happened, but its all I can think of. Hopefully, this is covered under warranty or can be fixed.

I know when I post with my Visiontek X2, it shows on both screens, I doubt anything would be a little different. I'm assuming you hooked something up to just output 1 prior to a POST?

Yep I attempted to hook up just 1 thing (both the TV and monitor) prior to POST - it must be a broken DVI output, somehow when I disconnected everything to move my computer, either I broke it or shocked it or something (I'm generally very careful with my components/plugging in cords/etc so this is a bit of a surprise).

But nothing, not even POST will display on any monitor/tv/etc from that DVI output #1, so I have to assume the port is broken.

Thanks so much for all the help, and tomorrow during normal business hours I'll contact their support and see what the options are.
