Microcenter deal of the day WD Green Power 1TB HDD $79.99 online and instore

this is a really good price.... unfortunately for me I can't force myself to go into a MCntr again  about 1.5mo ago I went there to get this drive for $109 ? or whatever the ad said, but none on the shelves were listed at the price. So picking up one of their in-store news ads, tried to get an employee to point out where the drive was, the 2 or 3 employees there were BSing about PS3 while 20+ customers roamed about like cattle. Ordering online is an option, but I still just don't like that place :p
The rep for HP Printers was more than happy to help, but useless in this situation. The infinitely full parking lot & 30+ person lines are another downside, but not surprising.
sorry for the rant:D

Great HD Price !

With 10.25% sales tax, this is pricier than neweggs 1TB hitachi with free shipping. Ah well.

Good lord... I paid this price for the 500GB version of this drive just a few months ago.

Picked up 2 B&M today. I was going to go with the $99.98 drive from Amazon, but this was too good to pass up.

Installed one in my WHS, waiting for it to resync, then I'm going to install the other drive as well.

forgot to mention if you guys do buy locally, remember to sign up for their member reward program, that way when you buy the hdd you should get a coupon for 5% off on single item purchase next time.

Is it worth it the extra $20 a drive to get the EADS version of this drive from Amazon over this one for a HP ex470?

hmmm prbly not. If they were the same price (or <$10 diff.) then go for the EADS. I've got both, and checking HDTune they are extremely similar speeds (within 2MB/sec of eachother -- min/avg/max ~40/74/95) & access times 14.4 vs 14.9. Temps are within 1C of each other, and are more impacted by their placement relative to the front fan in the hard drive cage... haven't measured power draw, but one can imagine :)

if you really want the 3 platter then go for it... but otherwise the 4 platter will be 98.9999% the performance & you'll have $20 for a.movies b.pizza c.next round of steam wknd deals ;)

yummy. I just purchased two of these early from frys less than 30 days ago. Time to get a price match (low price guarantee)

Yea... so I ordered it yesterday and they cancelled my order, wtf???

Just thought I'd give props to Microcenter for their packaging of hard drives. I order two of these drives and they came each in an individual box inside a larger box. The smaller boxes are 8x10x5 each and are filled with foam with a cutout for the drive.

looks like a dead deal =(, glad I jumped on that antec 1200 case for 129.99 b/c it's back up to 189.99 now

You guys do see that it's the "Deal of the Day" from 2/28/09 not 3/05/09 So yes... this would be dead.

I tell you what Microcenter has been stepping up their game ever since Circuit City has gone under.

I love Newegg but if I could drive to a store to get the same price or cheaper for a product that's great!

"Despite their sub-7200 RPM spindle speeds, Western Digital's GreenPower drives proved they can hang with, and even beat, some respectable 7200 RPM drives (and a 10k RPM drive for that matter) in many tests." - HotHardware

also, theyre still a pretty good deal at $95 arent they?
