The ONLY good AVs are Avira AntiVir (my #1) and NOD32 (my #1.1, but I NEVER recommend it for home use)
I've got bit defender, but I hate it. It deleted all my keygens. But I guess it's doing it's job. It catches way more stuff then AVG Free did, idk if they are false positives or not. I don't question it, it auto-deletes them, I don't really have a say so in the matter.
Take that with a "wink wink, nudge nudge". Everyone pirates something. But he's right about lots of false positives. He's ALSO right about never knowing if the keygen is dropping all sorts of crap onto your machine. Try running your keygens in a virtual machine which you can just wipe and reimage I'm certainly not advocating piracy, people should get paid for their work, but sometimes it is a good way to try out a piece of software without restrictions.Maybe you shouldn't be pirating software?

Kind of like hookers! The idea sounds great on the surface, but in the end you just end up with warts on your junk.Getting something unknown dropped onto your system is basically the price of admission when it comes to software piracy
Great feedback, you learn something new everyday.
1.) why not for home use?
2.) why is this ESET so good? ...
3.) what about using linux (for example) to scan the MS OS partition. This even kernel level malware can be detected. Has anyone tried this.
Imagine: (Always happens) your family, relatives, friends come to you with a malware problem, pop in the bootable USB and let linux run the AV on the MS OS.
4.) do you guys have knowledge of firewall security? ... ACL's? ... decent hardware firewall, relatively cheap?
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP
Avast is crap.
Yes you can. Smart Security has a firewall built into the software where you can have it alert you everytime something tries to access the internet or you can have it set on automatic so that it's not constantly asking you permission.so i was planning to get this for the new server. but from the comparison http://www.eset.com/purchase/
Smart security 4 is good right?
or should i just get the AV version from the egg for $24.99 ... deal going on.
quick question, can i also block programs from connecting to the internet?
dont put smart security on a server, why would you want a software firewall messing things up?
get ESET Nod32 Business and throw it on server, if you have multiple machine sin house just contact myself or yeolde and buy a license for how many machines and just protect em all and monitor from server.

My problems with Avira are:
1) It's adware.
2) Minimizes fullscreen apps to update.
3) Requires clicking to do so.
4) Overall just requires a lot more maintenance than Avast.
IMO not worth it over the better detection, especially since the only viruses that ever come anywhere near my system are old MS Word macro viruses from 2004 via my flash drive - and I use OpenOffice so I'm safe from that.
I just wish ClamWin had a resident module.
what is the difference between Business and Home?
Would you all recommend a dedicated anti-spyware app if I were to go for Avira AntiVir free edition?
If so, which one?
gf downloaded wow addons last night , just today before work when she typed in google, all her words were typing backwards. when you tried to move a window it would gilde to the left automatically.

what do you think?
I know for a fact that there was a known issue with Java and Firefox that would sometimes cause the backwards typing error, however the newest Java fixed those issues. I'm not sure if it could also cause the gliding thing.
thing that scared me, was not being able to mty the recycle bin. first thought was virus
wow addons are notorious for key loggers and viruses, pisses me off
Yeah that definitely seems beyond the normal Java bugs.
If it was caused by a WoW addon or WoW-related site, I would suggest changing your GF's account's password ASAP on a machine you know is clean. The vast majority of WoW malware is specifically aimed at hijacking accounts.
