In the “sad but true” category today we have this story about a teenage girl who is suing Facebook for $3M after being harassed by former classmates. Feel free to harass me so I can get $3M too.

An Oceanside, N.Y., teenager is suing four former high school classmates, their parents and Facebook for $3 million for allegedly bullying her in a private forum on the social-networking service.

wow she fail! It's not facebook's fault that she accepted her old classmate and got harassed.. some people just need to grow up. and steve, you are an idiot and you suck, you shouldn't deserve to see day light. :eek::D:D:D:D
 
Pretty sure their TOS include a clause limiting their liability and responsibility in these cases. But then again, if she can get them to settle for $100K out of court, then she got a net profit out of it.
 
Can we just gather up all these useless form of human flesh and just off them all?
 
Windows has the wonderful big red X in the top right corner of most windows that are open. They work well in these situations....
 
Steve is a bitch! I once saw him totally get suckerpunched by a 4 year old girl and he cried like a bitch! Oh yeah bring on the harassment lawsuit! Wont get much from me but hey ;)
 
Oh crap, wait a minute. This means you have to sue HardOCP, not me. That would be bad for job security I think.
 
In other news, schools, cafeterias, playgrounds, hallways, locker rooms, malls, stores, gyms, stadiums, and other areas including, but not limited to, the planet earth have also been added to the lawsuit when it was found that they have been used by malicious people to bully others.

This is why I believe they should not let minors access this site. It's her own damn fault for accepting her damn classmates.

Ah, the American Legal System: you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.

The easy answer to this problem, of course, is to load every Facebook and Myspace user into a rocket and fire it at the sun. Nothing of value would be lost. The question is whether their puerile drama will blow the rocket up before it hits that wonderous ball of fusion.
 
I'm suing the state because some one honked at me and hurt my feelings when I was driving on their roads. :(

Harassment is harassment whether it is in person or on the NET and is not legal and punishable under US law. Its called Criminal Harassment; Facebook may or may not be liable, but the former classmates and parents are. Facebook maybe held accountable if the girl brought it to their attention and they did not follow up with it.

I got verbal abuse for years at school by kids and teachers alike and nothing ever happened. Some hurtful words are posted on facebook and somehow that's a $3m case... Wow. Just wow.
 
I'm gonna sue everyone and everything now.

Rock chip car, me sue Earth.
Get bad grade, I sue TV.
Me not rich, sue company.
No win jackpot, suing casino.

we're a forum of geeks, not very many of us see daylight unless we absolutely half to.

Hmm.. I thought it was ridiculous at first, but then I htought a bit more about it. You can be sued for libel, right? How is this different?

If some people create a group called "person xxx is a fat cow," and within the group has a bunch of lies and rumors and all kinds of libel, then that could be construed to violate facebook's terms of service. If facebook does not remove the group in a timely fashion, I think they could be liable to be sued. Whether facebook is to blame...eh.. prolly not. However, I say the creators of the group are getting what's coming to them.
 
how did they come up with 3million in damages? I seriously doubt that bitch could make 3 million in her lifetime anyways

I never understood how someone could get bullied and do nothing but whine about it. why not create like 100 facebook accounts and slander them right back? even worse and get your own ass sued!
 
Legal system isn't that bad.

This won't make it to court without a prima facie, and even if they have one that doesn't mean victory.
 
If she had a chance in life, she just ruined it with a lawsuit of greed and fail. Might even have trouble finding a job as a hobo now.
 
For a geek, you have big ass biceps. Must be from lifting all those racks (rackmounts, pervs).

Someone needs to explain to me how this fucking works? Could she have easily left the forum, cut these people out of her 'friends' list, etc. etc. because right now, I'd like to fly to Oceanside, N.Y., find this simpering steaming pile of crap and her parents, and then punch them all in the face until her great, great, great grandchildren still felt it. IDIOTS!!!
