If you find 9800GX2 cards (for a good price) post them there.

I'm not looking for any, but I know others are.

36 in stock as of posting $257 here.

will you have any problems if you mix brands, or different clock speeds?

The drivers don't differentiate between brands, so that is not important. I don't know about speed differences, but you should probably trust Kendrak's statement on that one :).

I run EVGA and BFG together. I've also run a stock EVGA with an overclocked EVGA and they work fine, just different PPD.

Has anyone bought from these guys?

So does anyone know what their reseller ratings are like? I'll pull the trigger on 6 if I know I won't get ripped off :D

edit: I just looked at these. $250 for refurbs. good deal or wait?

Newegg seems to price new cards around $250 when they have them. My limit for used or refurb is around $200.

I'm really wary of the 9800gx2 refurbs just because if the stock fan on it decides to bite the dust you're basically SOL. There are zero aftermarket coolers for this card.

There are plenty of aftermarket waterblocks tho :D:p

That may be true but if it's any consolation even brand new video cards can get failed fans, especially running 24/7 @ full load. No video card was designed for that level of wear and I've had two new cards experience fan failure after only a couple of month's use. One card was damaged beyond repair. The other survived but required me to retrofit an Ati HIS IceQ3 cooler, and this is a nVidia 8800GT. Fortunately it worked because I didn't want to purchase an aftermarket cooler for a card that was in a questionable operating state.

Needless to say, any card can fail new or otherwise.

Ya but with a brand new card if the fan fails after a month you can RMA it. With refurbs generally you'd be sol because they rarely come with a great warranty.

I just bought the last 4. I will let you all know if I receive them in 3 days.

Edit: WTF, now its back to 35!

I bought 4 when the Quantity avail was 4. I needed 5!

Maybe someone canceled their very large order......

Or they where creating a false sence of urgency.

I just got the big FU from evga to fix my card cuz the serial number indicates that it was already once rma'd (or this is a replacement for one that was rma'd) Locked up one day like any other card I've had do, reboot and its flatline, nothing nodda. I even asked if they'd fix it if I paid for the repairs, nope, they just reply that there is no warranty on this card anymore. (Has mostly to do that I'm not the original owner, from their records)

I got mine from eParts, they are legit. (Whew!) Cant beat $222 for them right now.

Anyone seen a 9800GX2 in the wild lately? I would prefer to NOT go the refurb route and I'm not particularly keen on buying used. If I don't see one in the 30 to 45 days, I may go with GTX295's.

Look around and you'll find them. I was happy to pick one up for about $180 a few months ago - lately I've seen a few in the $170 range but you've got to be quick to pounce on them.
Ebay still has 'em for around $250.

Er, wait, what am I saying?!?

No, no , you can't find them anywhere in the wild. At least not till I grab one more for my folding rig.

As long as you have a large enough PSU. There should not be a problem.

In general, what's the folding rule of thumb for GX2s and a minimal config elsewhere in your rig with respect to PSU sizing?

If I built a 4xGX2 platform, would a 1kW PSU be absolutely required? Or could I get away with using multiple PSUs connected to each pair of GX2s?

It's more of what you want to do.

With the new WU, you could probably run all 4 off a 1kw PSU just fine. I ran 3 off a 750w with the old WU (higher power required).

If you do a single 1kw, know that you will be on the upper end of it, don't have a bunch of extra headroom, and the life of said PSU will not be as long.

Yes, the possibility of this setup has been raised before, and it is possible to run multiple PSUs on one board. I have that setup on one of my systems due to the motherboard layout making it difficult to find an affordable PSU, so yes it is possible and there's more than one way to do it..

Giving credit to Axdrenalin

MWave Recertified eVGA 9800GX2's for $199. Just saw the link, but they are STILL in stock. These are VERY hard to find.
