it's back... 1tb seagate 7200.11 $85 shipped

I rather get a 1.5TB for $83 like last week, but this is still a pretty good deal.

The deal is okay, with tax for me, it comes out to:
$89.24 which is about 8.9¢/GB
NewEgg has a 1.5 TB drive for:
$129.99 shipped which is about 8.7¢/GB

So, it is slightly more economical to just buy the 1.5 TB.

And those states that Dell does not have any sort of business in. Such as a small kiosk in your mall.

Thanks for posting the deal... one thing I'll never get is why they do stuff like this:

Purchase limit of 5 items per order, but coupon discount applies to only 1 item per cart. Limit of 5 items per customer please.

I guess Dell enjoys paying CC transaction fees. Shrug. Ordered 2. In two orders...

Not everyone has $40 extra to spend for the extra 500gb, even if they're saving .2¢/GB.

If they were the same price or same size, then I think you could compare the two. I don't need 1TB, much less 1.5TB, but not everyone needs 'that' much space.

the second you get on a HD tracker site, you need about... 2T's at least :)

True but his argument was that the 1.5 was the way to go since it was .2 cents per GB cheaper. Really, .2 cents?? If it was between the $105.99 deal and this, then maybe, but to save a fifth of a penny a GB? Lol.

So these drives also suffer from the firmware issues (I thought it was only the 1.5TB versions)?

The 7200.11 line had bricking problems and RAID issues, most have been resolved. The cases and fewer and farther between than most suggest. The 1TB and 1.5TB have been the "worst", the 750GB and 500GB drives are largely unaffected to my knowledge.

These absolutely suffer from the firmware problem. One of my five drives didn't boot up the day I went to apply the fixed firmware  Once I got the refurb drive back, I flashed them all to the new firmware (I was on SD15 before), spent the 21 hours rebuilding the array, and everything is back on track. I'm done with Seagate now though, especially since they dumped their 5 year warranty.

There's a firmware update on Seagate's site if the drive you get does not already have the latest.

ehh not bad , but not great , FS is nice but the total with tax is 90.94 to me in Jax FL

I bought a 1.5 TB off Dell during that $85 deal. It's the older model with more platters, but it did not need a firmware update, according to Seagate's website. They have a form where you can punch in your drive's serial number and they'll figure out what firmware it shipped with and if you need to upgrade it. Since they said no, I'm not messing with mine unless I see issues. It still seems quieter and runs cooler (according to SpeedFan) than any of my old drives, including a 500 GB 7200.10 I'm using.

This is not a bad deal if you don't have to pay tax, but mediocre if you do. I got the 7200.11 1 TB HDD, brand new, for about $80 back in Nov. It came w/ FW SD15, which I upgraded to SD1A, even though Seagate said it wasn't necessary for my serial #. And since I bought it a few months ago, I got the 5-year warr.

got my drive today. (seriously fast for free shipping). no firmware update needed according to seagate

Link? I have about 12 7200.11's I need to check.

Edit: Link

I have a bunch of seagates "affected" but haven't seen any effects in freebsd or linux (64-bit on both). I flashed anyway.....no problems.

It's a non-issue IMHO.

did anyone else think this was the 1.5tb? And why are people so afrid of seagate, because of a bad firmware when all the ones that you order now come with the new one?

I got one and suprisingly had it the next day...dropped it in my Windows Home Server and it's working great.

Probably going to buy another one.
