my refurbed 2490wuxi is set up

Most people here probably got it from Techforless since they had the refurbs going for around 600.
They have since sold out though. They had I think over 60 units in stock, but a couple weeks around here and it's all gone.

an update on the monitor. I got a replacement directly from NEC. I only have to pay shipping back to NEC and the expense is cover by techforless (what a great service from them). The monitor I got from NEC has a rev 2E instead of 2D from techforless. The new monitor is working flawlessly.

Uncheck the box about "Hide modes" blah blah blah and try again. My HP L2335 does the same thing, no idea why. Not like 1 Hz is gonna make all that much difference but but but... :)

Well 60hz is actually listed, I select it, hit apply all is fine. I go back to double check to see if it actually changed it to 60hz, and to my surprise it is still 59hz.

I did some googling, apparently this is a Win7 issue.

when you put ur ear really close to the screen do you hear the "buzz" noise? I can hear it pretty loud when mine.....

When talking about noise. You need to state where you are from/what voltage you are running on. These are know to make more noise on 240V than the 120V in North America.

I can only hear mine if I put my ear right on it (North America 120V). I consider it totally silent in normal use. My Dell 3007 could be heard while actually using it. So I am not deaf.

Mine's pretty damn loud, almost like a CRT. It hums at about G4 pitch. I can't hear it over my computer or any of my consoles, but with everything off and no traffic outside it sounds like a distant airplane. Of course it's easily audible with my ear to the back of the panel.

My DS-263N is near inaudible even with my ear on top of it. I'm on 120V US power.

But will the replacement monitor buzz as well?? R u guys getting it replaced?

I'm not. I can't hear the hum when I am using the monitor, because each of my image producing devices (PC, 360, PS3) by itself drowns out the NEC. Furthermore, because these devices are on the noisy side, I'm almost always wearing headphones..

I didn't notice you'd already had the monitor replaced, so it would suck to have to return it again. However, if it irritates you I can't advise keeping it. A buzz is in some ways worse than a dead pixel. You're going to be using this monitor for years, you don't want something that will diminish every second of your computing experience.

The replacement may buzz, and if your monitor is perfect in every way except for the buzz, the replacement may be worse. It depends on how much you dislike it. If you hate it, it's probably worth a shot at a replacement.

If anyone is interested, TechForLess has one 2490WUXi (factory refurbished) in stock for $870.33. Not such a good deal as last time.

Okay, this is a bit strange. I have my power management set to put the monitor to sleep but it doesn't go to sleep. Just a black screen. Is this normal?

And for those of you not running Win7, what is your refresh rate on your monitor? 59.9Hz?

The monitor can be configured how to handle power saving. You want to be sure IPM is set to normal.

I forget just where it is in the standard menus, my screen is in advanced mode at the moment.

Seriously, anyone why buys a 2490 needs to RTFM. There are far more options than found on a typical monitor.

I spent nearly 4 hours yesterday figuring out how to adjust my 2490 how I want (not calibrated to 2.2 sRGB, but how *I* want it, lol).

Here's a trick for the "non-pro", you can adjust saturation for a calibrated gamma curve. I read lots of complaints about not being able to adjust parameters in Programmable Calibrated mode.

The selectable # gammas in the OSD in advanced mode are weird and dark, low contrast. Instead, calibrate the screen's programmable LUT using SVII + Eye-One Display 2 to the gamma (and temp/cdmm) you want. Now go into the advanced menu and choose custom User Setting #5 (or 1/2/3). In gamma, now you can choose the Programmable curve. Cruise over to the Temperature and Brightness and set them like you want. You can also now adjust the saturation.

I personally like 1.7 calibrated gamma, slightly warmer 6300K, and a few clicks of saturation on each of the 6 colors. (Yes, this is not a Photoshop setup.) I like a little brighter curve and a little extra color. Annoyingly, this is only possible with SpectraView II software and a calibration sensor.

This is the first time I've never had touch the nVidia control panel color adjustments. What an awesome screen!

Also, enable Hotkeys. Now left/right adjusts Brightness on the front bezel when the OSD is inactive.

One time after a calibration, my OSD was completely hosed and throwing garbage all over the screen. Power cycling fixed that, but that was really weird.

I m in usa. So is buzz noise normal? Or I should call nec to get it replace?

I guess I'm one of the first owners in Europe. I got a new 2490WUXi last monday. And of course it has this horrible noise problem. I can slightly hear it at 1m distance in front of the display. So that's not cool.

Build date: 2008.12
Revision: 2EF

Called NEC at thursday to get a replacement. They said I'll get a new one (because of DOA).

I also asked them why this is still a problem as many 2690WUXi users already had this problem. The guy said he doesn't know of such problems and he would know if there were bla bla ...

What are your refresh rates at native resolution? I just tried hooking up my MBP and running OSX setting the NEC at 60Hz. I'm still only at 59.9Hz. I know its not much of a difference but I would like to know if its only my monitor or is 59.9Hz rounded to 60Hz.

Nothing to worry about IMO. Mine is running at 60.1Hz with a GeForce 7600GS.

Bought a NEC 2690 for 420 bucks out the door at tech for less. I live about 15 miles from them and immediately went down to the store to pick it up when i saw the monitor online. The only thing wrong was the stand and all i did was call NEC to get a replacement. Well the replacement i got was shitty but the stand was great I sent back the replacement with my bad stand because the replacement had 1 dead pixal and a bad red glow. Well i got spectra view and ieye1 and it is calaibrated to SRGB. I do not see why anyone is complaining about gamut monitors this thing rocks.
I will be starting my own thread with pics soon. Oh the monitor is under warrenty until 2011 march

haha

Mine says 59.9Hz in the OSD, but set to 60Hz in Vista. Not going to worry about it as my 2007WFP shows 60Hz even when set to the 59Hz option in the Windows refresh list and still 60Hz when set to 60 so...

Mine has a bit of buzz (US, either 110 or 120V) but it's not *that* bad and isn't always present. Can only hear it in a completely quiet room at night and I'm running a very quiet T61p which isn't even on the top of my desk with the LCD's so my ambient noise level in this situation is *very* low. That and my display is pretty much flawless in every other way, so I don't think I'll chance an exchange.

For note, my 2007WFP also makes a bit quieter and lower buzzing noise, so nothing completely perfect I guess. Loving this monitor though, best money I've ever invested in a piece of tech (said that about the 2007WFP too).
