Grand Ages: Rome Demo (AWESOME)

Yea, I've been playing it and I really like it. The graphics are nice. I'm impressed by the game I didnt expect it to be this good. Can't wait for the game to come out.

The only thing I found a little annoying was how picky the building employment mechanic is and how the building starts eroding so fast if theres no Plebs to work there but its not a big deal.

I know right, 2 of my buildings burnt down while I was trying to build a house..

Thanks for the link, it sounds good - but fuck fileplanet up the arse. Stupid webshite.

FilePlanet's actually great if you're a subscriber. But yeah, for free users, it's pretty suck.

In a business point of view.....it makes sense to make it shitty to the people who want to use it for free. Will make them want to subscribe and be a part of the site and if they subscribe, maybe they will buy something too.

totally understandable......shitty way of doing things, but understandable nontheless.

Anyone got a link to a video I can watch of this game? It used to be, I could buy a game based on what I saw thru pictures and whats on the back of a box.....these days though, I need to see a video of it first.

Treating me like shit does not make me want to subscribe or buy something from them.

Fileshack does not treat non-subscribers like crap. Thus, I subscribed to the shack.

But then again...fileshack doesn't have this demo. Also, if anybody is looking for a decent game about Rome, try Europa Universalis: Rome. It isn't a city builder. It's about diplomacy. It's an interesting way to burn a lot of hours.

Damn right. First place I went to look for an alternate mirror was Fileshack. That's how content hosting should be done, none of this "OMGOGMGOGM HERE ARE PRECISELY ONE MILLION BILLION ADVERTISEMENTS AND ALL THE CLUTTER YOU COULD EVER IMAGINE RIGHT IN YOUR EYES RIGHT NOW AND WHAT'S THAT YOU WANT TO DOWNLOAD SOMETHING HAHAHA WELL HAVE FUN WITH OUR CONVOLUTED AND TIRESOME PROCESS" nonsense.

Silly old fileshack, giving you one fat button to click and nice download speeds. What're they thinking?

But yeah, thanks for the link anyway. Going to try this when I can.

is thsi game anything like Caesar IV where it's more Rome-sim with the need to combat invaders, or is it like Red alert where it's more combat oriented with building some structures....

i like fileplanet (as a subscriber). access to a pretty decent beta lineup, good download speeds, and basically all the demos that come out. my sub gets me access to several other sites too (ign etc).

I dont mind their business model. they are just trying to make money.

on another note, grand ages: rome is pretty cool.

I am playing this right now, anyone know why the screen turns black/white for a split second every now and then?

Is this suppose to be the lightning effect???

The hell are you talking about?

You posted a one word post to the link, my comment was pretty obvious. The exe file linked is already partially compressed and with the speeds that filefront gives there would be no real reason to compress it further with winrar. Maybe post more then one word next time?

I'm fairly sure he was playing on "winner".

Tried the demo. Definitely a lot of fun, although it can be a little bit of a challenge for obsessives like me: having to have your amenities and supplies in range of the housing really fucks with my compulsion to build everything really neatly.

It reminds me of the sort of game that people that don't play PC games play, if that makes any sense. Like my stepfather has all the civilisation games on his mac, that sort of thing. Never thought of it as being something that would interest me.

Fuck me I think I ate something off, my guts are rotten. I've nearly worn my ringpiece out from wiping, I've been that many times in the last hour.

Just a little update there for those of you that like to follow my bowel movements.

Wally never fails to amuse :)

My motto is: If gamershell doesn't have it on their free ultra fast servers with no signups then it can FUCK OFF.

I used to like Gamershell but I think Filefront and fileshack have my custom now. Gamershell is inconsiiiiisteeeennnt.

Yeah 1701 AD is much better. Not a bad game but I did not like how building radius requirements.

Damn this game is awesome...this could be my next AoE.
Bunch of detail...love how it looks, and runs fine maxxed at 1920x1200 on my rig (sans AA and that other A word that was on low).
When does this release?
Game crashes right after running in VistaX64

Runs fine for me

After playing with it some more, I think I like it a bit more. Too bad that the demo doesn't let you go into war with others, I think this game can really excel in it.

Anyway, what's frustrating is the whole building on fire thing. If you for some reason do not have the resources to operate, building catches fire. Instead of giving you a chance to fix it, tehre usually isn't enough time :(.

I got to fight some people. (Not a full scale war obviously). I agree.

(Looks very dark...because it was night. Lol)

there's a bunch of videos on the pub site
http://www.grandages.com

don't expect too much out of it coming from kalypso media though, they're a pretty crappy studio. the last builder they released kind of sucked and was buggy as hell, a complete copy+paste of the one before that renamed and re-released with the same bugs. budget titles at best, seems absurd for them to be charging $40 on steam for imperium romanum, it would be worth half that at most.

I am not expecting much, but the demo is really good. I have yet to run into bugs and it is gorgeous.

I just gave it a try because of the positive feedback you guys have given it, and it is indeed quite fun. The graphics are really pleasing, and the interface seems intuitive and functional.

I haven't found myself being as addicted to it as I remember being to the game 'Pharaoh' many years ago, but perhaps that's because I was quite young at the time, and more easily impressed. I have memories of being totally absorbed in that, and working on epic projects like pyramids was extremely fun, as you watched it come together little by little. I also became obsessive about making my citizens wealthy, because it was so much fun watching their little huts turn into lavish town-houses as you provided them with more amenities. I wish they'd put it up on Steam, I'd totally rebuy it :p

As for the download service debate... I'm also a fileshack subscriber, but I think Steam spoils all of us because they provide very fast downloads for free. Once all new demos start being put on steam, Fileplanet will be screwed.

I have noticed it from the start, but wanted to point it out. If you zoom all the way in and change perspective, this game truly looks better than many FPS's we have, lol.
