According to Facebook, the social networking site has just hit the 175 million active user mark. Well, if you count this guy it is officially 174,999,999 active users.

Dave Morin, who runs Facebook's application platform team, announced the milestone Friday evening on his Twitter/FriendFeed. Facebook reached 150 million just more than two months after reaching 120 million and about four months after reaching 100 million.

I wonder what they consider "active" users.

While I have an account, only to ensure my name was saved in case I ever wanted to use it, I hardly do anything with facebook.

I personally can't fathom why people use sites like that... Needless to say I am not one of 170million...

I never thought I would use Facebook. But my wife, sister, brother, and brother-in-law were on it, and they convinced me to join. And to be honest, it is a pretty neat site.

My 20-year high school reunion is this year, and I have about 15 of my better-known classmates as friends now. I also have several cousins and other friends on there. I don't have a really big friends list, which is perfect for me.

What surprises me is that so many of the people on my friends list joined in the last couple of months. It seems to be really building steam right now.

It has a very good use, and specifically for people who end up having friends all over the country. I use myspace because all my Army buddies spanning my career are either out in there own home state or stationed somewhere else and it is the only way I can stay in touch.

Other than that yea it's gay,

I despise Myspace and its bathroom pictures of preteens holding the camera at some awkward angle and making some strange face in a miniskirt. It really turned me off to social networking two years ago.

However, after starting HighSchool, face book is awesome for keeping in touch. It hits all the bad things I hate about Myspace and gets rid of them. No more browser crashing html code and .gifs that make your eyes bleed. Facebook is simple and gets the job done.

Back when Facebook started, it was awesome.

I was (and still am) in college and it was an excellent way of keeping in touch, talking about classes or events, and meeting people you may have sat with in a particular class but never actually talked to them.

It was cool because it was a social networking site similar to myspace, but it was restricted to only college users because you had to have an email from a verified college to be able to use it.

Not that I blame them, but they sold out and now ANYONE and their mother, literally, is able to get on so that's why we're seeing more myspace-type bathroom pictures and whatnot. Again, I can't blame Zuckerberg or whatever his name is for selling out for all that cash, but it just aint what it used to be.

The largest collection of Spyware bait in the industry!

Prolly not a great idea to make a lot of your personal information publicly accessable via interwebs. I'm just sayin...

It was great when it was limited to college students only.

Newsflash: 175 Million sheep logged on, all at once. As a response Facebook execs have invested in Shepherd Crooks, to help control the flow.

You know, it's funny - they're bragging about their huge user base, yet at the same time people using the site are getting arrested left and right. Also, the b7 usage if off the charts with all these people getting banned because of breast feeding pics and other bullshit like that.

If they keep it up they'll be bragging about how they have, oh, zero users?

Facebook, myspace, etc all total fucking nonsense, a place where morons and idjits can let thier ego's run free. Narcacism at its most pure.

That's 175 million people evolution missed. Fucking useless lions we have these days.

no they wont, because the people they are arresting are idiots who post inciminating pictures and info, so all the other oh.. 174million people who arent doing that will go on about their regular lifes. Just the morons who post their illegal activites might actually grow a brain cell and learn not to do that.

and it is their site, i dont need to see breat feeding pictures, fuck sakes, make it a private album or something, or go make your own site.

Facebook wont have zero users ANY time soon.

"Active" is relative. I also have a Facebook account so I can see friends' and family member's Facebook. I do not have a Facebook page of my own.

I guess they counted my account among the 175 million. Lets see what the number would be if they made Facebook like MySpace where the user could chose whether you needed an account/approval to see their page or if it's open to the general public.
