Necrovision thoughts?

"Necrovision is a first-person shooter set in the World War I era in which you must battle vampires and demons."

How can this possibly be anything but awesome?

I really couldn't get into it, it looks great though, It just seemed like there was no direction to follow with the game, either that or my gf kept bugging me too much during the game and didn't hear/see what to do. I think I may try to play through it another time.

No, it's not a good game. Painkiller was awesome, this is just ridiculously unpolished, so many things wrong with it (long loading times, no resolution higher than 1680x1050 supported, holding down melee button > everything, unclear and stupid "objectives", level design is too cramped for the amount of enemies they throw at you, weapon switching is poorly thought out, <5 FPS when using mounted weapons, awful voice acting, etc...).

I liked it, only thing i was iffy about was voice acting, and Ace, Half of those things i said the same thing about Re5 Demo.

Its a demo, chill out, they might fix it before its released, which from the looks of it, theres no release date yet.

Objectives are pretty retarded indeed. While the game looks pretty good, there is nothing to really get excited over :(. It felt pointless, all of the objectives were just meh.

This game might have looked good but it wouldn't let me play at 1080p. 1680x1050 is a big no-no on a 32" screen.

The game is supposed to be cramped and fast paced...thats the point of throwing melee combos in. I liked painkiller a lot, but I like this even more. Constant enemy killing with less of the big red symbol check points that painkiller had. Also 1920x1200 with max settings works fine for me and looks great. Play on impossible if you think holding melee button will get you anywhere. Try playing longer then 10min.

This thread is the first I've heard of it - going to have to try this demo. I loved PainKiller!!! Anything that warrants a comparison is worth trying, as far as I'm concerned.

couldn't figure out how to exit the castle so I quit...was bored anyhow

If you are bored stop playing on easy. How do you get stuck on a linear path level? There is only a few side paths and they are for secrets. The castle consists of levers and computer pads. What I would really like is to play level 7 that the reviewers got to play. Fighting harder monsters like vampires with magic and tech.

same here, first time i heard of it, but just watched the trailer and its bad ass. Downloading the demo and hopefully will play it tonight, if not tomorrow :D

Got bored after 5 minutes, what a lame painkiller ripoff.
It uses a much different combat system then painkiller did...and some of the dev team from painkiller are on the necrovision team so I wouldn't really call it a ripoff.

I'm a dummy, I couldn't find the second dynamite! Tried 5 times and said screw it. It does seem like a painkiller rip, but just not nearly as fun. (Stake gun anyone?)

I'll probably take a pass.

The second dynamite is back past where the guy shoots himself in the head. The hardest part of the demo on hard mode is the room filled with ridiculous amounts of germans. They need an upgrade system kind of like the tarot cards in painkiller, or maybe there is one...My second time through I killed the heavy armored guys with a bayonet throw and saved the big gun, you can dual-wield it and give the boss some hurt.

Something about the visuals gets on my tits with this. It looks ok, but it's sort of like the actual image on-screen is shifted slightly, so that it's like the edges of things don't follow pixels, but are kind of half-off. Like when you rub your eye and your vision is slightly blurry on one side for a little while after.

Demo was enjoyable. Gameplay and some story elements remind me of the Wolfenstein reincarnation from 2000 or so... I am both amazed at the visuals put out by the Painkiller engine, and disappointed that the horrendous load times were not resolved.

Slightly off-topic:
I'm tired of the recent trend of demos that only lasts for six minutes. Feels even more like a waste of time considering you spend 30-90 minutes downloading a demo that you wind up uninstalling 10 minutes later... and all without providing enough substance to help anyone decide whether to buy or not. Most recent example would be the "FEAR 2" demo.
It was refreshing to have a demo of NecroVisioN with 30-60 minutes of gameplay, which gave enough to convince me to buy it when it comes out. YMMV.

I'd probably like the demo but when I run the game I hear the nVidia music for half a second then the game freezes and I have to ctrl-alt-del out...

nice...

BUMP

Apparently this game came out yesterday completely unnoticed. And to celebrate the occasion, Steam is offering it for an unbelievable $3 off!

Anyone getting the full version of this one? I'm planning on trying the demo tonight, and will probably end up buying it just out of love for the PainKiller similarity.

Speaking of which, anyone know what PeopleCanFly is up to lately?

I hope it's better than the demo. The feel and control in the game was just wasn't there for me at all.

I'd recommend anyone thinking of making the purchase to try the demo first.

Bumpt again.

Broke down and bought the full game last Friday, and it is surprisingly good! I would say it is much less similar to PainKiller than it is to Wolfenstein (RtCW specifically). Anyone who liked either of those titles will probably like NecroVision. It has slightly more rpg elements than either of those; has that same completion-level counter at the end of each level, but unlike painkiller the items you find in all the secret areas in the game actually benefit you quite a bit, as they can give you character-leveling powers, or allow you to pull off several additional combo's when doing melee attacks.

The game designers seem to have anticipated you would learn to do a lot of exploring in each level to find all the secrets and upgrade your character. Once you get in the habit of exploring a lot, the puzzles do tend to get a lot easier (aleviating a lot of the frustration people had with the demo level). The combat feels like painkiller in slow-motion - nowhere near the amount of enemies or devastating weapons with unlimited ammo. It is slightly more realistic in that you have to re-load a lot. The melee weapons are really the most fun in a lot of ways; you can cut down quite a crowd with one of those bayonets, and there are cool combo finishing moves that you get if you attack the right way.

Also, for the painkiller lovers, there are challenge-arena levels that are unlocked throughout the game that can be accessed from the main menu, where you have to mow down a large number of enemies in a certain time-limit to unlock certain perks in the main game. I've been having a lot of fun with those as well - great addition to the game that gives it a nice variety.

It definately does have some very unpolished/indie type shortcomings: voice-acting, and un-polished slide-show cut-scenes are the biggest imo, but for the price point the game was released at, I think the pro's far outweigh the con's.

so many things wrong with it (long loading times, no resolution higher than 1680x1050 supported, holding down melee button > everything, unclear and stupid "objectives", level design is too cramped for the amount of enemies they throw at you, weapon switching is poorly thought out, <5 FPS when using mounted weapons, awful voice acting, etc...).

edit: btw, I haven't had any performance-related issues at all (rig in sig) - I think most of the issues you noted are fixed in the released version. Graphics go up to 1920-res now; with everything maxed, I don't think my fps have dropped under 40 yet (generally well over 60fps). The controlls work a lot better than most other (console-port) pc games I've played lately - haven't noticed any issues with the weapon functionalities either (will have to try out that hold-down-melee trick ;)). I still say you should go buy it asap.
