Hey guys...I'm having a problem getting this mobo to work out for me...here is my system.

e8400 stock 3ghz, s1823 HSF
8800 Ultra
800w BFG PSU
8gb ddr2-800mhz g.skill ram.

So, I plug in everything and power on, no post beep...and my video cards fan revs up really high and I get no video. This is exactly what used to happen with my old ASUS P5K-SE when I was OC'ing and set my ram frequency too high. Do I need to get a stick of like 1066 or 1366 ram, boot up..change the bios to 800mhz for the ram, then will it work?

Take out the memory and video card and try to start it.
Just to see if it gives you any error beep codes.

If it doesnt give you error beep codes with those removed, then your cpu isnt seated correctly or your mobo is grounding on the case somewhere, so pull it and try getting it to post or at least give error beep codes outside the case on a non-conductive piece of coardboard or something.

Also, some motherboards wont post if it doesnt detect a cpu fan, so hook one up to the cpu fan header pins on the mobo for testing if you dont already have one plugged in there.

And of course, reset the bios via jumper.

Okay, I'll try that...thanks.

Here is the issue with my CPU fan. If I plug the CPU fan into the 4 pin CPU fan connector, it does not spin. I have tried 2 other fans, 1 3pin and 1 4pin...same issue. No fans work in the other sysfan 1 spot, closest to the ram. I have my CPU fan plugged into sysfan 2. Could that be the problem?

Video card and all 4 ram sticks out, no error beep codes. Going to pull the mobo and see what I get.

Okay, I pulled the mobo...had no ram plugged in, and my CPU fan unplugged...no error beeps.

I tried with no ram, and it plugged into CPU fan 4 pin on mobo, fan didn't spin. I tried again, in sysfan1, it spins..no error beeps. I also tried all of this with 1 stick of my ram in slot 1, no error beeps still. Should I remount the HSF?

Do you think that because my CPU fan connector on my mobo seems to be dead, that my mobo will not post because of that?

Just for good measure, I took the backplate off my mobo for my retention kit and installed with push pins t remove any possible metal under there...same issue.

I thought you said you pulled the mobo out of the case?? Also do you have a speaker hooked up?

If you havent already, pull it out completely, set the box that it came in on a table with that foam on top of it and hook it up. Try just 1 stick of ram in the 1st yellow slot(try a couple different sticks individually) and the video card.

The cpu fan on these boards is a little strange anyway so I cannot say for sure that your board is bad or not. The cpu fan takes awhile to startup especially if its PMW

Interesting. If I plug my HSF into ANY other fan spot on the mobo, it starts up instantly with everything else. I have a speaker plugged in and its sitting on my wood table. I've NEVER ever gotten a single post beep out of the board. If I plug a fan into the 4 pin CPU fan connector, a big fat nothing happens.

I've already got my RMA# with newegg, fuck this....I want a new one. -.-

Bottom line is, a fan should work in that spot ><

The CPU fan header has a delayed start, I believe it kicks on when the BIOS initializes. I'm afraid your board is DOA which is why the CPU fan never starts up on that header...
The first UD3P I got from newegg was DOA, the replacement they sent is rocking along just fine.

Thank you for verifying that for me, before I ship it back tomorrow...I appreciate it, I feel a little more at ease now.

hey there
i'm having the same problem, but i just noticed that i do not have the 8pin 12v atx connector plugged in, my power supply only comes with a 4 pin, so i didn't plug anything in, do yo really need this plugged in, what does it do?
i get no post screen, nothing! it seems like it boots up but sits there doing nothing. do i need to buy new p/supply with 8 pin atx.
cheers guys

The 8-pin isn't necessary, but you definitely need to plug in the 4-pin cable.

I'm ordering one of these tonight or tomorrow night. I hope they don't send me one of these DOA boards that any of you guys send back.;)

So is it worth it to connect anything at all to the Gigabyte SATA2 ports on this MB? I heard these can be flaky.

I dont know that there flaky but your better off using All of the Intel ones 1st. If you have that many drives, I would try put the dvd drives on the purple ones after all the yellow/orange spots are filled.

I'll have 5 SATA2 devices (2 HDs, 1 ext. HD, 2 optical devices), so I'll just plug 'em all into the orange slots. Is there any special order of plugging this stuff in?

If you haven't installed the OS yet, and you're planning to use a single drive for the OS - meaning not set up any type of RAID situation - hook up the one drive where you want the OS to go and install it on that drive without the other drives attached (save for the optical you're installing from). When the installation is done, add the other drives using Disk Management and partition/format/assign drive letters as required.

If you're going to use one or more in RAID as the OS drive, none of that means much. :)

I think you have a dead CPU, have you tried it in another board? If the CPU won't initialize, the fan won't spin up and it never gets to the point to search for memory or video cards while posting.

Was your MB packed like this? Then most probably it is damaged by the time you received it.

I still didn't assemble the system. Will find out if it is working in the weekend. Already notified NewEgg about this (poor packing), and received a reply, too.

Such a huge box and it is on top?? And MB is the only thing in the box.

mine at least had some peanuts between it and the top of the box. Other stuff was in it, but here's hoping both of our boards work!:)

Mine came like that too last month. And I have floppy and IDE problems. But those could be drivers, I'm not sure.

I just got a P6T that came like that and it is already in RMA.

The UD3R is a fantastic board, I love mine but it is very picky on the RAM settings. It took me a while to get it right and when it is way off I would get no post. So I would wait - reseat - Restart and hopefully get it to work long enough to change the settings in the bios.

In the end it worked and now super stable.

I'm not overclocking. Will the SPD settings show 5-5-5-15 as the Corsair RAM is rated (XMS series, TWIN2X4096-8500C5, DDR2 1066) or do I have to set these manually in the bios? Will I have to worry about resetting the voltage at all (RAM rated as 2.1, but not sure what default voltage is for the MB; I'm at work now)? Anything else weird with this board I need to know about now already in this thread? Thank you.

You will need to set the timings and volts manually. It will give timings that the board thinks are right and it is 1.8 volts default in the bios.

So those volts are where the RAM wants it and not the highest it will go, correct?
The voltage the motherboard sets automatically when you put in the RAM sticks is a default voltage and not necessarily what the RAM is specified to run at.

my gigabyte x58 board was packed the same way
came with a bad RAM slot.
Why'd they stop using real packing peanuts anyway? Fuck.

Started testing it today. Too late, but I didn't have time. Everything seems to be OK so far.

Yes, wiring is lousy. This is just the test setup.

got my bios settings the way I want them and I made an install order plan, so I'll start installing Windows tomorrow night. Also, it came with the F6 bios, so no need to flash any further at least for me.:)

Mine came with F5 bios. Since I have a Q8200 I flashed to F7 - as recommended by Gigabyte.

so these bios versions do more than the one thing stated at the download page? where does it say anything about fixes for newer chips?

For this particular Motherboard, the CPU fan connector won't actually power up instantly, whereas the others will. Perhaps it only starts up once the PC gets into POST. In other words, I don't think the fan header is the problem.

Well, if the temperature is low, the fan will wait until it is "hot" to start - as far as I have experienced with Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro. I have another Gigabyte board (No.2 in sig), it does the same. Speaking of cooling, I noticed that the MB heats up around the NB HS. So, I setup an extra 80mm fan. 1 and 2 in the pic. are the "hot" areas as I noticed.

Not that it makes much difference for what we were talking about except for the bios, but I actually ordered the UD3P and read the thread title wrong the first time and didn't pay much attention after that.............you would think the pics would clue me in though.;)
