Can X3100 run Snow Leopard?

Hi,

I'm looking to purchase a macbook.

I've found a 2.1 c2d (the white model that came out with the unibodys, prior to the 9400 update). It's going for around 800 CAD w/ 9 months left on applecare. My main concern is longevity to run Snow Leopard when it comes out. I don't play any games so I'm not all that concerned with FPS.

Does anyone have any experience with the X3100 and the new OS?

Also, how does the price sound for the computer?

Thanks

I can't see Apple abandoning any of the Intel systems with the release of Snow Leopard. I think it will probably run on G5s too, maybe even high-end G4s. Needless to say, that Macbook will run Snow Leopard just fine. I'm not sure what the system retailed for in Canada, but $800 CAD is about $650 USD which seems like a good deal for that Macbook. Apple refurbs are $850 USD for that model.

The aim of Snow Leopard is to reduce memory and HDD overhead associated with the OS. While the OS likely won't be able to use the Intel GPU to power the OS, the OS should still be snappy.

Rumors have it that non intel machines wont be able to run Snow Leopard.

Someone with a nick like "persistant1" talking about rumors on the Internet... the inherent irony (persistant rumors) is killing me... :)

Apple could not, and would not do something so absolutely stupid as to rip out the very core (no pun intended) of the GUI since it was originally based on the Intel GMA hardware to begin with. As one poster already noted, there's simply no way they would slap so many Macbook owners - first generation on through the second - as well as other products (Mac mini, anyone?) by putting out Snow Leopard with no support for their graphics hardware.

While it's entirely possible that some of the "new" stuff in SL may not function 100% or with plenty of performance behind it, the basic core (no pun intended, again) functionality of the OSX GUI will still be there, for years to come, on Intel GMA hardware.

I used the word rumor for a reason.

You might want to reread my statement; I said non Intel, which means PowerPC. I should have been clear with this.

I'm not sure why this would be "killing you", since all MacBooks are Intel machines.

Referring to "speculations" like this.

WTF!!?!?!?

That was perfectly obvious.

At least to anyone with a clue about Macs. ;P

Stroller.
