Ok I doubt any of you will remember me, but that's not the point
Ok so here goes I've been out of the PC scene for a long while and I've lost track of what hardware's good and what is not so can somone please help me piece together a mid range build please?

Any help is most appreciated ^^

Ok let's see well I'll be using the PC mainly for gaming, web use (mutliplayer too) and a little video editing

I'm building this PC from scratch, in live in Europe (the UK) and my budget is about £800 I guess about $1200

Hmmm overclocking I really don't see as a neccesatity in this build, perhaps the abilty to tweak the core value's a touch might be useful

I have a 17" LCD screen which I think is a Grundig? :s

So yeah sorry lol but does this help?

Almost... we need to know what you need... which parts, which features in a mobo, etc.

Without going any further, I'd stick with a Q6600 and 4GB of RAM. Mobo depends on use...as it'll determine SLI/Crossfire/*which* RAM. U definitely need to answer the rest of the Q's before we can provide anything further though ;-)

PC N3WB, I'll meet you halfway. I'll post a list of parts below, but you need to tell us where you're going to purchase everything from as well as whether or not the below build list fits your budget.

Cooler Master Elite 330 mid-tower ATX case
Corsair 400CX 400W PSU
Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3L P43 ATX motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
Corsair XMS2 2x2GB DDR2 800 CL5 dual channel RAM kit
Western Digital WD6400AAKS 640GB HDD
Samsung SH-S223F SATA DVD burner
Radeon HD4670 PCI-E 2.0 video card (cheapest brand you could find)

Do you also need a copy of Windows?

Ok here goes, motherboard wise I really don't need any raid or SLI/crossfire lanes. wireless adapter would be useful though =) I saw the P43 mentioned but how good is it against the P45 chipset?? I have a copy of Windows Vista premium and a Q6600 from a previous build that still works (crappy enermax PSU blew on me and took out most if the other components :s) my sound card x-fi xtreme gamer still works too ok I'll be purchasing most of my stuff from novatech, microdirect and maybe scan and OCuk ^^ hey ummm I heard CAS4 latency ram is better than C5??

hey ummm I heard CAS4 latency ram is better than C5??

Not in real world apps and games. So don't bother with CAS4 RAM unless it's the same price as CAS5 RAM.

Oh and P45 = P43 - Crossfire. In other words, the performance of the P43 is the same as the P45 but the P43 does not come with Crossfire support.

Ok, now time for you to do some legwork.. At the very least, go with the hard drive from Tiraides' build from whatever site has it for the lowest price. In fact, try to find the prices for those parts tiraides listed and see if those parts fit within your budget (dropping the Q6600 of course).

kay thanks man =] will do but for now I need to sleep...it's late here LOL thanks for the help so far!!
