At school they have brand new 24" imacs which claim "vivid colors and breathtaking clarity." And they weren't kidding. It blows away anything i've seen with a matte display. I do web design and digital photography and currently using a MVA Soyo 24" but it doesn't seem to hold a candle to the glossy stuff. (Don't care about reflections)

More important than just matte/glossy, it might be a s-ips or s-pva screen.

There is a HP w2448hc, it has got a TN panle but vivid colours and a glossy screen. There is also the Hazro HZ24Wi expensive but alot better viewing angles and has also got a glossy screen.

I totally agree with you, glossy screen makes the picture more clean and colors more vivid. It's not a subjective thing, it's a fact.

I understand that most people don't like glossy screens because of the reflections, but in a controlled lightning enviroment i can't see why anyone wouldn't choose glossy. One would argue that there will allways be reflections even in a controlled lightning enviroment, but i beg to differ. You can hardly notice any reflections in a dark room with a dimmed down lightning source behind the screen.

As to what is the best 24" glossy screen, my bet is the new LED Apple Cinema Display with IPS panel. If only Apple would come to their senses and make some adapters to make it possible to connect the minidisplay-port output to a displayport- or DVI input.

I loved the glossy w2207h, but its colors were overly saturated, the responsiveness was not that great (slower 5ms), input lag (not terrible), and my face staring back at me on any dark screen except at night with no lights on.

It was nice but in the end wasn't worth the hassle for me. I haven't seen many glossy 24s either. Theres an HP and an LG iirc.

The new 24" Apple Cinema Displays are very nice and glossy. It has an h-ips panel and is led backlit. Your graphic card, however, needs a displayport to use the display. And on top of that, you'll need to find a displayport to mini-displayport adapter. I'm not sure if there are any graphic cards with displayport besides the 295gtx.

After fantastic promises and long discussions about Hazro's glossy IPS monitor: total failure.

24" Apple Cinema has no connectors for PC that puts this monitor out of consideration. BTW it has no controls, no ergonomics - just a bare panel.

So the answer is: best glossy monitors do not exist, neither do good monitors.
I don't count iMac that is actually a combo.

Glossy options are limited to TN models.

The Palit Revolution 700, which is a 3-slot heavily modified 4870x2, has DisplayPort, but is not yet available.

The glare on a glossy screen would drive me nuts. It also further reduces the acceptable viewing angles on a TN panel, which usually aren't great to begin with.

Im in the same boat sorta, Im looking for a nice 24 or 26" glossy display that wont break the bank.

I have a LG L227WTG and ab-so-lute-ly love it.

I picked up a LG W2600H and while it was a good looking monitor I realized just how much I enjoy the glossy screen, so off it goes back to the egg.

What would be a good 24" or 26" that would compare to the LG I have now?

I decided to finally get a new monitor and went to the local CompUSA. After doing a little bit of research I decided a TN panel was really all my budget would allow. I went into the store to check out a Samsung T260 and a LG W2600H with the assumption I would be purchasing one of these monitors.

After viewing these two I looked around some more and saw a HP w2408h. It was a little bit smaller, but to me looked a lot nicer. I ended up opting for this and am very happy with my decision. I'm not a monitor expert and couldn't tell you the difference between it and another glossy 24" monitor, but if you are able to I would suggest viewing them in person.

I've read some of the screens in these are made by LG and some by Samsung, with the Samsung's being better. Mine is an LG and I really don't have any complaints, but really don't even know what I would be looking for.

Hi, Ferris I am planning to get the HP w2408h too! I am wondering if you have any problem using it as a monitor such as it won't go to sleep when you use HDMI > DVI?? and was it good as a gaming monitor (if you have used it to play game that is)!!

feron315,

I have it connected with a DVI to HDMI cable and haven't had any issues with it going sleep. Keep in mind I generally shut down when I leave my computer.

I have played COD5 and Crysis on it with no complaints. I am coming from some Acer 22" I got pretty cheap over a year ago so it was quite the upgrade. The Acer had terrible color and a couple of dead pixels.

I would highly recommend this monitor to anybody who does
not have a lot of windows in the room. The screen does have quite a bit of glare, but I only have one window in my room so it is a non-issue for me. Keep in mind as I am pretty bias since I bought the thing recently.

I have the Gateway FHD2401 and I like it(except for 1 dead pixel and some color problems). I can control the light in the room its in so glare isn't a problem.
