Hey folks.. I've been a member here for years and years and due to medical reasons I was absent for a few of those years.. I'm back at full strength and I need your help :)

I'm interested in getting a great laptop at a great deal (aren't we all!) I want it for gaming, media, performance, quality, features, etc. The laptop has to come from best buy btw..

The first option is....
HP dv7-1285dx (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9166323&type=product&id=1218041149114#tabbed-customerreviews)
Now this is a new laptop that best buy just came out w/ , crazy amounts of memory, but just doesn't come off to me as a Gaming laptop. Although it looks beautiful and when I played with it, it performed very nicely.

Second Option is.....
Asus G50Vt-X1 (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9050279&type=product&id=1218012519873)
This thing is sick looking, but after comparing specs, i've realized that this may not be the best option.. The resolution is also holding me back, big time, same w/ the screen size.

Third and final option is.....
Gateway P-7805u (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9172511&type=product&id=1218043606827)
This seems to be the best bang for the buck, but after doing some research I'm not sure about the quality of gateway... Theres also a few things, people are saying the screen resolution is not always accurate and one will be at the highest end resolution and another could be at the lower end.

I guess basically I'm on the edge between the HP and Gateway... What do you guys think, whats the best outta all of these and will offer me the best deal and quality and enjoyment.

I'm a tweaker so I love to tweak around with stuff, play games, etc on my free time.

Thanks for the help guys/gals!!

I just bought the Gateway on Sunday.
Messed around with it a little bit. So far i LOVE it.
My first laptop too. I never thought you could have a comp that powerfull in a laptop for a grand! :)

I'm happy with the laptop, if that helps you at all lol.

Def helps... any way you can take some pics of the design and what not? i went to best buy and they didnt have the display model or anything for me to look at and I can't find that many pics online.

Also hows the screen? Thats my main concern.

Gateway P-7805u;
The screen is awesome, the text is small but again that is to be expected. if you are gaming it is the way to go as 1Gig video memory and then 4gigs system all DDR3. It runs relatively cool but watching even 3dmark 2006 was just awsome.

Just remember in gaming it is almost all about the video card............

Here you go, someone got the laptop and posted pics in the thread, mine is identical.
The screen is very nice :) The high resolution makes everthing look so nice and crisp!

I cant take pics of mine because its sitting at my girlfriends place right now lol. (I put it back in the box, so she wont be touching it hehehe)

Ive got the Asus g50vt and i love it so much, but if your looking for the best bang for ur buck, go with the gateway.

Thanks everyone!!! I'm going to try and grab one of these bad boys... although they are sold out everywhere around me.. I'll be heading to florida Friday and i checked areas in Orlando to see if any one had them there, and one place does, hopefully it'll still be there when i come :)...

I've got the x2 version of that asus, which is pretty much just a more powerful version with a better screen, but I love this thing. Not to mention asus has a 1 year accidental warranty, and a 2 year regular warranty.

Which reminds me that I need to register mine...

Using the Gateway notebook as of this post. I am loving it, I got the one with the 1920 x 1200 so that's a super plus.

Nice!
Good luck with the hunt and have fun on your trip to florida!
You will love the laptop:)

Thanks everyone... great community you guys have going on here.. very happy im back :)

Well guys i got to florida and the first place i went to was best buy, got a LG screen and this is one bad ass computer..... haven't had much time to play with it, but very very pleased so far.. very responsive :)

I just bought a Gateway 7805u this past Monday. Great system! It replaced a souped up Gateway M-6750 as my work laptop. The M-6750 still works great, but I've been finding myself doing a lot of photo editing, and the 15" screen was killing me. When I saw the price and specs on this system I just couldn't pass it up.

I was lucky enough to get a 7805u with an LG screen @ 1920x1200 resolution. The HD that it came with was a 320GB 7200RPM WD Scorpio Black too. I installed a second 320GB Scorpio Black in the second drive bay in the laptop. So far I'm only using it as a second HD, but the system will let you use it in RAID-0.

My only nit-picks about the system? It doesn't come with the Vista x64 installation CD's. The recovery CD's you can make do a full re-image of the system, wiping everything out in the process. If for some reason the system can't boot normally, you're hosed (with the Vista CD, you'd just boot from it and let it repair the problem). You can supposedly get the CD from Gateway for $10, but after 45 minutes on hold I gave up trying to get it from them.

Maybe sometime in the future I'll use Acronis to make a backup image of the HD and try to see if I can get both HD's in RAID-0. Not too sure if it'll work though (I'm thinking there'll be a driver issue).

Otherwise, if you can find this laptop, GET IT! On a whim I installed Left4Dead on it and gave it a go to see how it'd do. Even at 1920x1200, 2xAA, and most effects turn on high, the game plays liquid smooth. I was piecing back together a budget gaming rig to use at a friend's house (A64x2-4800, 7600GT), but now that I've got this system I kept saying to myself... why bother? :D This thing is completely smoking that system, and I can transport it easily from place to place,

Anyone that wants a 7805u should jump on it soon. Someone on notebookreview.com got a 1440x900. The newest batch is probably the "correct" resolution as this notebook is advertised with 1440x900.
