AnyDVD is no longer doing the "buy it once for life" as of Jan 1, 2009. They are moving to a subscription based plan. If you were on the fence about this software, consider this an opportunity to figure out one of your Christmas presents. ;)

So if you buy it before then you will still get the upgrades and wont have to use the subscription?

I'd like to know more details as well. If you buy it for life now, are you still going to have to shell out a subscription based thing later? Are the life subscriptions grandfathered in?

Official announcement, link. I just dug around the forums and could not find any official pricing or date of launch, though the OP seems to know the date (if correct).

Find some new info:

If you buy it before Jan 1, 2009, you still receive lifetime upgrades for free. After that day, it is yearly "fee". So yes..it is basically being "grandfathered" if you buy now.

so the consensus is - buy it now or otherwise we'll be screwed after hte new year? ha.

So can I buy just the HD version or do I need to buy both? This is just too good of a deal

I had to jump in with the new WHS version of MyMovies out and buy a license. Now I need to decide on the HD version before Jan 1st. Unattended ripping is sweet.

ouch. $85 for AnyDVD + HD option.

Not that any of us would do this, but it might be more worthwhile to buy actual copies of movies rather than spending $85 on this, plus say $75 for PowerDVD Ultra. Plus the cost of a BD-ROM drive.

I think I'll just watch them on a PS3.

That cost is small, which I have done all of that (I paid for AnyDVD-HD when it was 100USD also). It is great though not having to load movies and just turn on the HTPC and have my entire collection of movies easily at my finger tips. Plus I have back ups now of them and can put the hard copy into storage.

How does updating the product work?

I just bought it and it says new updates are available. Do I basically just download the newest version and reinstall the program and use the key they gave me?

Just install over the previous. If it needs a reboot it will tell you during the install.

Extended Offer
Based on tremendous customer response SlySoft management has decided to extend both the current 20% promotion and lifetime free updates until Sunday, January 11 2009 to give everybody a chance to sneak a peak at 2009 prices and subscription fees for better comparison

doesn't DVDfab HD do what this does for free?

where'd you get this? Shows 79 EUR to me

They claim that it does bluray although I have two bluray players and I have not gotten it to work.
I asked in the cd club forums and they said that its not supported.
So I don't know what the deal is
Bottom line anydvd rocks and is worth the money

Hrm anyone else able to chime in about DVDFab HD? I usually do my encoding in batches so I don't need a program to be on all the time, downloading the latest version and ripping then encoding how I want is fine. If DVDFab HD can't work with the majority of Blu I guess I'll pony up before the 11th.

i just picked up AnyDVD HD, works great so far and it's really easy to use, haven't tried any bd discs yet though

that's basically how I feel

Sure wish I'd seen this thread earlier. n/m, just saw the update.

Yeah, its expensive as hell, but worth it, if only because there is nothing else. I've tried everything free under the sun, and sometimes that stuff doesn't even work on normal DVDs, and never on HD-DVD or Blu-Ray.

The latest version of DVDFab Decrypter HD doesn't do Blu-ray, nor can it make ISOs :(

I would still buy it for future use if they hadn't switched to Euros. The current exchange rates makes it entirely too pricey for me at the moment. Besides, by the time I start watching, ripping and backing up Blu-Ray there should be something else on the market to either be an alternative or lower the price... or since Europe is getting in worse shape than us the dollar will be stronger.

Is the license transferable to a new computer when I decide to upgrade my hardware?

Unless its changed, since 5.0.8.5 fab has dropped HD support for the time being, and the website does not show this. Even then it was experimental. AnyDVD is the only thing that is almost a sure thing of working right now.

I just picked this up a few days ago (31Dec, I think) and is easily one of the best purchases that I have ever made. Works perfectly, every time, every disc that I've had problems with in the past. I am beyond impressed with this. I was on the fence because of the expense, but am more than pleased with the results.
