Warhammer Online Thread!

I picked the game up and I'm a level 16 Chosen on Monolith if anyone is on there. Name is Morder

I love the game so far, the T2 pvp's are very fun so far. I only got to do nordenwatch in T1 so I don't know about the other ones, but the game is pretty damn fun.

Once you get to T3 the RvR gets boring, low renown and XP in scenarios. Tor Anroc is terribly designed and it's the one that pops the most. Just power through it, T4 picks up the fun again.

Patch 1.06 should maybe be out end of this week, and that is supposed to be a major deal, with Career and Combat changes. The game is getting better in my opinion, and the mother of all patches is 1.1 due in December it will add two new classes, big bug fixes, and overall quality control.

I say give WAR another shot, they are working on making it better, just takes time, but I see 2009 this game really taking off, once the WoW WoTLK players get bored with that game soon.

I don't know how fast WoTLK is going to get boring. I'm enjoying it and not really in a super rush to level like I was in TBC. The atmosphere in wotlk is very very dramatic.

It is way too easy and fast to level up in WoTLK...seems like everyone will be Level 80 by first month or less, then what ? Raid and raid some more

They should have upped the Level cap to like 90 or so, and made Northrend even larger, otherwise seems like a long wait for 3rd expansion in 2010...

Replace WOTLK with WAR and you have the same scenerio, except at least in WoW the raids can hold more than 40 people without lagging out.

Yeah, was about to say.... I spent less time hitting R40 than I think it took me to hit 70... let alone 80.

I still think WAR has tons of potential to be the most fun and cool Fantasy MMORPG on the market in 2009. Right now it just needs balancing and patches, which they are working on. The game is only two months old, give it some more time to settle down and get polished

This is key what Mark Jacobs says;

Finally, I want to close this out with a brief explanation about the role that we believe that oRvR should play in WAR. It’s really as simple as this, oRvR should be a major focus for leveling, item gain, etc. in WAR. Some of the systems are already in place and in Tier 4, oRvR is alive and well. On other Tiers, however, oRvR is not being engaged in as often as we had hoped when we launched WAR. Our goal is to ensure that oRvR is the place where players can level the fastest, get the best items and overall, have a great time while doing it. It is supposed to be riskier, more challenging but ultimately, more rewarding than any other place within WAR. What is outlined in this letter are some of the ways we plan on making this happen over the next few months and beyond

I agree, ORvR is the best part of the game, fuck Scenarios they should be removed or at least totally redone as in-game somehow, beacuse currently they steal players from the real game world making server feel even more empty.

But Open RvR needs these changes A.S.A.P., not 6 months but sooner rather than later. For sure up the XP big time in ORvR, and allow much better loot, and a new influance system is best idea. If they do all this WAR should kikc butt in 2009 :)

My Brother and I played WAR until like 2AM last night I have to admit I had one of the best times ever playing a MMORPG last night. Just so much good fun

We created brand new Human race characters, and got to Level 7. I created a Priest and Brother a Wizard. Was both our first times in the Empire Tier 1 area. We did three PQ's, And were able to find people to join us all three different times easily last night, and everyone in the group were really cool and helpful.

We did a ton of regular PvE quests, and those were pretty fun in that Human starting area, even one quest brought us inside a crypt, and that had a really cool scary feel to it, had to find and open a coffin, was spooky good fun.

And tried a little Open RvR, but we were a little too low level for that, we went in there at Level 3 and that was too low for Tier 1 RvR. But it was cool while it lasted. And the Tier 1 RvR was pretty crowded too, so it was a very active night on Monolith server.

My whole point is, we played the game like it is meant to be played. Did a little bit of everything. Get a buddy and explore the world, do some Public Quests and join a bigger group, to get some good loot. Do some RvR in a WarBand which is a blast. And even the PvE quests in that area were very good. Actually the game needs more of those spooky crypt style levels that was really fun.

I completely agree. I've played off and on since 2006. When BC came out, it was just... okay, I guess. Flying mounts, better gear, etc etc. Those are really the only things I remember about it.

It was Blizzard's first expansion with the game, and I really feel like BC was more of gimmick than anything. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but seeing what they've done with Lich King shows me the company/devs/etc. have really matured in their vision of what they want to do with the game.

But WotLK, wow. It takes me back to the first days of my experiences in WoW. For once I don't feel like I'm grinding to get to 80 to raid and do arena. Granted, I'm excited about it, but overall WotLK is very very good, and has taken the game to new levels in my opinion.

To make this post on topic, I tried Warhammer Online but what ultimately pushed me away was poor optimization. IDK if it's gotten better, but unfortunately Mythic lost a very interested customer because of this. I'll most likely try the game later when things stable out IF it even survives, but for now I'm very much so engulfed by WoW again. I'd be playing right now if the servers weren't down, LOL. This is the first time in 2 years I said DAMNIT when I woke up intending to play only to remember the servers were having extended maintenance today.

I've actually been trying to find news/opinions/etc. on how WAR is doing. Are people thinking it will be a flop like AoC and the others, or is it quite the opposite? If WAR can establish a decently size/profitable fanbase who sticks with it, I can definitely see WoW players who grow tired of high-end content moving to WAR when RvR and high end content as a whole is in full swing. It's very psychological IMO--anyone playing WAR now (or at least when I played when it first came out) doesn't know exactly what to expect with high-end content. But, if the people playing now get to the high end content and get very well geared and whatever else is considered a Warglaive of Azzinoth in WAR, then man's natural competitive drive will kick in and more and more people will want to participate in it. Ultimately that's what it will take for the next MMORPG to be on WoW's level IMO.

But yeah, I don't think Warhammer was ready to take WoW's fanbase. That may not be what they planned to do, but as good as WotLK is, I could even see anti-WoW, Warhammer playing customers eventually going back to WoW. And if any of you anti-WoW'rs in this thread read this and say NO WAY and completely disagree, if you ever liked the game I'd seriously at least level to 80. Read the quests, don't think about it as grinding to 80, and definitely make a Death Knight just to see the backstory behind what's going on.

:)

WAR has two major patches due this month. The first 1.06 comes out today, it is the biggest patch to date, and fixes tons of character and class stuff. Some new abilities, improved combat dances, some new spell effects. This patch is meant to fix and improve Combat and Careers officially.

And then before New Years patch 1.1 that is the mother of all patches, the huge one, with new end game content, tons of misc fixes and bugs worked out, major ORvR revisions to make it better, and they have worked on stopping the crashing in big battles, they did a test server with 800 players in a Castle Keep battle  And it was stable no crashing

I like WoW just to me it is getting stale, and I have WoTLK and stopped playing it like 10 days after it came out, just more of the same grind, I hate having to kill 20 monsters for 5 items, that is a grind that is like work not fun. And the character models are really starting to look dated compared to WAR's.

So yes WAR still needs tons of work and patching and fixes, but with these two patches due out this month, they are on their way to improving it, it just takes time, the game is only 2+ months old. I would sat WAR should be kicking butt and really fun by patch 1.2 in Feb

you guys sound like you're talking about the economy :p

"should be good after this or that happens.... Feb-ish we'll be set..." lol

another game built around potential to be good, still an mmo

WAR is awesome, with the newest patch 1.06 it is getting better and better, now animations looks silky smooth on everything, no jerky movements, and Combat has been improved greatly, as well as Careers balanced.

And then the major 1.1 patch due at end of month, that is the biggest patch to date, with the most improvements, bug fixes, new content, and overall polish. 1.1 should really help this game get rolling solid.

Hardly 3 steps back. This patch is simply awesome. ORvR influence rewards, tweaked PQs, tweaked loot drops, redone stats on armor sets, UI tweaks, etc....no way in hell it's 3 steps back.
Some of my guildies were having trouble with CTD in the afternoon, but Mythic must have done something becuase by the evening they stopped crashing.

I agree this patch fixed a lot of annoying things like the poster above me mentioned but they still haven't addressed the biggest flaw, end-game. ORvR influence is just a band-aid, everyone will be done grinding it in two weeks and we're back to square one. You can only zerg a keep so many times before it gets boring and that's usually about 20 minutes for me now. For those of you that played WoW, think of the old-school Tarren Mill and Southshore days; nostalgia aside, it gets boring quickly and that's essentially what WAR end-game is.

Honestly, they need to revamp the ORvR zones completely. Design more interesting keep layouts, make them 3-5x bigger, expand the zones greatly so people can't just run across it in 2 minutes on a mount that way you can have smaller fights all over the zone without being steamrolled by the zerg every time, etc.

I was really excited about this patch but I literally logged on, took notice of the new stats on my armor, ran out to the RvR zone just to come across the same old 3 warbands participating in a mexican standoff outside the keep, and logged off. For me nothing's changed with this patch, it's still the same shallow game except for the fact they've added some influence gear so you can grind something for two more weeks. I'll continue to log in for two hours twice a week to do BW, BR, and LV but that really is the extent of my playing time now. I say Mythic has until the new year to get this game in shape or it's lights out.

I'm debating whether or not I'm gonna sign up for this. I've been playing AOC and WoW. AOC is cool, but Idk. Haven't played WAR yet fully. I was in the open beta, but opted out.

WAR is one of my favorite games in years. Now with patch 1.1 is really solid and smooth. I see 2009 being the year of WAR, it will just get better with more content, and fixes, etc...

I can't even touch WoW anymore, I had a great time with WoW for 4 years, but its time has come and it is showing its age, I am shocked how many players still stay with that game, I do not understand why.

WAR has been fun for me too. It's the kind of game you don't have to devote large chunks of time to and still work towards something. I like to hop on do a few quests, do a little open realm vs. realm, and play a game or two of CTF.

I know they say wow is a casual game but I found that I could play War and accomplish more and have more fun in smaller play sessions as you described.

One night I logged on while my wife was putting our daughter to bed and got straight into a keep battle. Hung out and did that for about 20 minutes till I had to go. I got XP, renknown and influence and had fun doing it.

I'm not aware of any specific lag/stutterin issue.

It's normal to get lag when alot of people are on the screen but I haven't seen anything out of the usual.

I have actually been surprised how little lag there is with 40 people fighting on screen in comparison to WoW.
However, I just started playing less than month ago, so I am not sure what it was like before.

Have they fixed the stuttering/lag in big battles?

They changed something about how how the game updates information regarding buffs, and worked on the adaptive degradation thing. Some people say it's gotten better for them, but I never had a problem to begin with.

No problems here and all I do is keep battles and open RvR. Order usually all run and hide in one keep after we have wiped them all over the server, so those battles get pretty big - no lag.

Really enjoying playing right now, the new influence system for each tier and story is great, and the gear.../droooool.

Currently at R33/RR33 with a DoK. If you find your niche and learn how to play well in it in T4 you will have tons of fun. It has been a frustrating class at times (stopped playing awhile), but with fine tuning, I can't wait to play again.

I had some pretty severe stuttering problems in large battles (see rig in sig) until the implementation of patch 1.1 after that I have been in some pretty large battles and have not experienced NEAR the problems I had before. Game is still choppy for me at times but that is more limited to my system than a problem with the game.

So far I am completely loving playing and love the BlackGuard class. I cannot stop telling people how different this game is than WoW. I had played WoW since closed beta and though it is a great game it eventually turns into... go do this quest or go to BGs or RAID RAID RAID. Getting in groups was a bitch and much of the time was spent trying to haul ass and get the highest lvl possible so I could get the l33t gear and be uber at PvP/Raiding. However, that just ended up being more of a grind in and of itself.

As many have said before, with WAR you can just log in, go do a couple scenarios/RvR and a couple quests while you wait for ques and not have to worry about the constant grinding. PvP is more based on your skill with your class then the fact that you were able to play for six days straight without food or sleep to get some absolutely uber gear to become this l33t, indestructible player. My lvl 17 can take out a lvl 21 if I pick my battle properly and play well. However, my lvl 17 can be taken out by a lvl 13 in the same situation. The battles seem more balanced that way, basing your winning/losing more on your skill vs the other guys skill, not who can mash the buttons enough to kill the other guy first. Dont get me wrong, the gear does make a difference but not as significant as it does in WoW.

Same here to be honest, I've been in some ORvR fights in T4 back in the first month where we easily had 100+ attackers and 100+ defenders (4 full warbands plus a load of stragglers) and only at this point was it getting choppy, a quick nudge on the resolution from 2560x1600 to 1280x800 and back up to playable fps again, that is a LOT of people to have on screen at once though, considering I've never seen anything close to that in WoW and AoC fell to its knees with about 40 people on screen at once...

Game is brilliant, I subbed the first month and got an order healer to 33 and then took a break to play the massive amount of nov/dec games but I'm so glad I resubbed, I started a new character on the EU RP server which unfortunately is a bit low pop and have been leveling my Witch Elf to r17 recently, scenarios are so much fun with this char :D

Im having a hard time getting the hang of WAR. It doesnt seem as friendly as WoW is. Everyone I try and message in game in the newby area doesnt respond. In WoW that would never happen. I just want some people to hang out with and lvl with really till I get a grasp on it.

Should I try a different server maybe one that is more populated.

War is very similar to WoW in alot of ways. Getting the hang of it is rather easy. Get quest, go to where it says, do quest, turn in.
Career trainers are all over the place to train every level.
You can RvR now if you want. There is an icon in the upper right of your screen to queue for a scenrio(battleground).
Or do Open RvR. You'll see a red area on your map showing where it is. I don't mean the little red quest areas, those show you were the objectives of your quests are located.

I always level solo. I don't really want someone else eating into my XP, slows things down. But the public quests make for good social interaction.

yeah i just found out about the map so now i see where the quest location thing is. they are taking the servers down in 13 minutes so i will play more after that. im hoping i found a new game really.

Come on over to Red Eye Mountain and play Destruction. You can message Hellcat, Xitrox, Hellshredda or anyone in my guild Descendants of Malekith. Do a /who Descendants to get a list of who's online.

They key to WAR is being in a good guild that RVR's a lot. At least that's what I've enjoyed the most. We have players at every level also.

Roll a destro character on Sylvania. I'm the GM of my guild, I'll throw you an invite. Got a couple people in Tier 1/2 with the majority of us in T4. We'll help you out with game advice and quests.

WAR to me could be so awesome, just needs some major work to be so. Not even sure if the changes I think of can even be done without making a new game almost.

There are some killer areas, like Tier 1 Empire zone is very cool, and Tier 2 + 3 Dwarf zones very high quality and fun, but other areas like most the Elf zones feel very low budget and lame, and over all the game feels like 2 parts, killer awesome in some zones, and totally lame in others ?

I know WAR is a PvP game at heart which is cool, but people still like to quest when bored of RvR for awhile. I would like to see more low level Instances for Tier 1 + 2, more crypt dungeons to explore as well for lower Tiers, and just more exciting PvE quests. Still RvR is #1 and should be, but to make the game more inviting add better questing.

But to me the game feels sort of disconnected if that makes sense ? I don't get this sense of being in a living breathing world, something about it feels stale ? The cities are dead, never like Stormwind or Org action going on.

I hope WAR can patch away to make it better, still many bugs to squash, and should add tons new content. If so it can be a great game, but right now I am sorry to say it feels like I am paying to beta test it.

What's the point in posting this here AND your own thread?

Anyway I'm not renewing my subscription to WAR unless they bring in the Choppa-class.

Well, then will you be resubbing after 1/29 ? :)

Should get some news you'll be happy to hear. :)
