Steam - 10-90% off everything

Overall if you like a good action/strategy game it's something you'll enjoy a lot.

It's a mix of rpg/action/strategy. You build up your character via skills in aspects of combat and defense (IE weapon skills, mounted skills, defense, troop resources, etc) among other things.

The gameplay itself is where it shiens though. You can choose different factions to join or try and go it alone against them all and build your army up from a small band of fighters to a huge band of trained knights, archers, warriors, etc and claim your own castle and things.

The best part of the game is when you are fighting, the mounted combat and archery is some of the best in a game once you get used to it. Even though the game uses rpg elements to build your character the combat is all real time player controller (the skills affect things like your aiming, IE with ia box at lower skills you can't hold your aim as long and it doesn't load as quickly, etc).

In battles your order your own troops as well as fight yourself. You give them simple commands like stay here, follow me, charge, etc for each of the troop types or all of them. Such a blast to have your arochers behind you firing into a line of the enemy and then charging into the fray yourself with a bunch of other knights.

The graphics obviously arent' that great (Since the game is indie and was actually started by just two people) but if you care more about gamoeplay it's easily worth 14 buvks and some change.

They constantly update things in (better graphics, gameplay tweaks, new items/npc's, physics support is in now, etc) along with plans for multiplayer in the future.

There's also quite a few mods and things for it too, good community on their forums and modders.

You can play the game up to lv 6 if you wanna give it a try, www.taleworlds.com

Awesome, sounds pretty neat. Just bought it :D

My posts are referring to Shadow of Chernobyl.
That's the $5 dollar deal (although it's up to $15).
I doubt it will go on sale again for a long time after it goes back up to $20 after the weekend; the $5 dollar price was due to last week's weekend deal.

The $18 dollar one you're talking about is Clear Sky.
I don't have any knowledge of that sequel.

I also don't remember how long the holiday sale is going to last...I wouldn't wait until tomorrow if you're talking about monday.

site says through 1/2

Picked up:

Peggle Nights
Ultimate Doom
Hinterland
Mount and Blade
Bioshock
World of Goo
I-Fluid

All for under $60. :)

Cool thanks, I'll probably grab this one too. Heck, I play Lords of the Realm 2 about every 3 years or so just to do some castle raiding with archers. So in that respect, this has much better graphics.

I bought Mount&Blade when it went to version 1.0, and it was definitely worth the $30. It's VERY open ended, as in basically they just drop you in a world and you do as you like. But if you don't mind almost making up your own story and not having a set path at all, then the game is pretty good.

No set story = you can make your own.

I see a bunch of people buying i-fluid but no one talking 'bout it...so either it's so fun they're still playing or it sucks :\

I'm getting crashes when trying to play multiplayer online after applying the patch, seems the .exe is messed up o.o

Figures. I order Jericho for $10 from Amazon because Steam was charging $20+ and the day it comes in I find out that it's the same price on Steam. Sad to think I'm thinking of giving away the disc copy just to buy a Steam copy.

With EA seemingly coming around to Steam, there are still a few holdouts out there I'd like to see. I'd like to see Ravensoft's SOF and SOF II thru Steam, along with Quake IV and a few others. What the heck is Ravensoft waiting on?

Also, I'd love to pick up a cheap Steam copy of Chronicles of Riddick: EfBB via Steam. Knowing Valve and Vivendi's litigious history, I do realize the wait could be a long one.

But why not? Steam is blowing the doors off the digital distribution competition. The economy is tough and developers/publishers can make a few easy dollars off their back catalog the wouldn't otherwise generate.

Mount&Blade is a lot of fun. Takes a bit of time to get the game going as in the beginning you have to be very cautious of who you run in to. Well, back to my several hundred soldier battle. :)

Yeah, if you get a simple program called M&B Battle Sizer, you can increase the amount of soldiers you can have on screen to ridiculous proportions... too high can cause crashes, but if you have a decent computer then you can definitely use more than the default for much more epic battles. I think the default is 100, but a lot better is 300-400. Great fun.

I've been meaning to download something like that and now I just did. :) I'll probably put the size to 200 as some of the battle maps aren't very accommodating for much more (I saw this could be changed though).

I'll be sending you a PM soon as I have a question or two about certain things in the game.

If you enjoy lords of the realm 2 (One of my favorite RTS games as well) then I HIGHLY recommend the Stronghold series if you haven't played them.

Hands down the best RTS when it comes to castles/sieges and things.

The first two Stronghold and Stronghold Crusader were great, however Stronghold legends and the newer one are not good really.

At least for me at the moment, I'm putting that game to the back of the queue. It's something different in terms of gameplay from most of the other games I purchased, but right now I'm getting into Bioshock and just feel like playing an FPS instead. I will come back to I-Fluid soon, but right now there is not enough to compel me to playing that game alot at the moment.

Raven's been a wholly-owned Activision subsidiary/studio for a while IIRC, and Activision even published both SOF1 and SOF2. Quake IV was also at least connected to Activision distribution-wise, though I don't know if they published it too.

Riddick was Vivendi, who is now Activision.

Basically, you want Activision to get off their asses and toss Steam some more love. :D

HolygodTrackmania

Anyone that doesn't buy that is a buffoon.
Unless the paid version is different from the free version, I will hate it.
When I played it seemed like the physics were all out of whack, even recognizing that it was supposed to allow loop de loops and shit, but still it reminded me of one of those slot car race tracks I had as a kid. It would have been cool as that, but I seemed to end up off the track more often than not, and then weird edges would make it so I had to drive all over the place to get back on the track.

I don't know, maybe I was doing something wrong, but it just seemed to handle and play like ass.

bought :

Luxor 2
doom 1
doom 2
bejweled
trials 2
bioshock

all this for 12$... and by the way... trials is incredible

You were playing it wrong, but.. yeah, you did nail the physics about right, and I think you just honestly don't really click with the game, so no harm no foul. When you get used to it, it's awesome hilarious fun. Many people use a gamepad with the game, which helps a TON, given the way the cars drive.

Trackmania does take a little getting used to.

The first not-so-apparent thing to realize is that gas/brake/left/right does indeed affect your pitch/yaw while in the air, not just on the ground. Not quite as dramatic as a plane, but you're not a flying brick, either.

I didn't care for the first two TMs, but the stadium parts in TM Nations was addicting...

If someone likes Nations, United is worth the $20, and obviously vice versa...

(FWIW - TM's a ton of fun, but I still don't quite get the physics for doing the "stunt" courses... Bronze/Silver's not too hard, but Gold/Nadeo I sometimes wonder if it's more luck than skill... I know some of those records out there were done by people with way too much free time on their hands...)

Never used steam before, so here was my chance to become a steam guy..
I picked up

Peggle Deluxe
Geometry Wars
Bioshock (NA)
Bejeweled Deluxe
Heavy Weapon Deluxe
Reaxxion
Team Fortress 2
X3: Reunion
Trials 2: Second Edition

All for $39.01

Not bad imo.
I can't seem to get X3 to run without the driver (nv display issue) crashing on me in Vista64.I'm gonna try on my laptop to see if there's any issues with it.

Fair enough. I think I was using my wife's wheel, but I'll try out my gamepad.

I believe the tracks I tried out were the stunt tracks, which is why I got the feeling of being on a Tyco track. The jumps and loops were fun when I pulled them off, but if I didn't wrap all the way around the loop, or accidentally went off track, I quickly found myself losing interest as I tried to figure out how to get back on track.

I'll give it another shot; it's a lot different weighing a $20 dollar game than a $40 dollar one.

I checked my CC acct. to see how Steam charged my CC. The amount is correct ($0.99), but I thought it was odd it was charged against Valve Software and that my CC categorized it as "Dining and Entertainment" instead of "Other". While I can't quite bite the bytes, they sure are entertaining. :D

Someone needs to buy me i-Fluid and TrackMania before the sale ends :D

Trials 2 is pretty bad ass. For $2 and some change. its worth it.

Thanks! Got HL:Blueshift and HL: Opposing force for $0.99 each! (trying to decide wheather to jump on PORTAL for $4.99...)

Anyone who has not played portal yet and hasn't bought it for 5 bucks is a moron.... Sorry, but it's true.

That or the orange box.

Cool. Picked up:

Bioshock $5
Portal $5
Doom Pack Complete $36
Total: $45.97

Clear Sky is tempting, but I'm gonna wait until it's $9.99 or cheaper. I love STALKER, but I'm a cheap-ass.

I got these (rounding to the nearest 50 cents)

Portal $5
BioShock $5
AudioSurf $5
Zen Of Sudoku $4.5
Bejeweled Del. $1

$21.50 for all those games, seems like a good deal. If everything but Portal and Bioshock sucked, it'd still be a good deal, IMO.

I already had BioShock that I paid $5 for from ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and Portal came with the Orange Box I couldn't wait to buy. What is AudioSurf?

(trying to decide wheather to jump on PORTAL for $4.99...)

Don't decide, just do it! Really, what more can be said about this game? If you haven't played it yet, and do not plan to get Orange Box or the Valve Pack, then just pony up the $5 and get it over with. You will thank us all later. Now go purchase Portal and have fun!
