Wired has a list of their “top technology breakthroughs of 2008.” This year didn’t see many jaw-dropping technical achievements but there were still enough to compile this list. Let us know what your favorites were and share some tech that didn’t make the list.

When it came to products, incremental improvements were the name of the game this year. Phones got faster, notebooks turned into netbooks and pocket cameras went from recording standard-definition video to HD. But the world's corporate and academic R&D labs were busy laying the foundations of some amazing future technologies in 2008.

Really? So our U.S. Swimteams Speedos is why they won all the races? Not because they worked out like insane maniacs for 4 years straight to prepare for the Olympics?

Indeed. I heard that you can take 35 year old, 250 pound Joe, put him in the speedos, and he will achieve some very respectable times.;)

Memristor sounds the most likely to change technology dramatically and flexible displays should clearly be higher.

I honestly don't see how an app store is #1. Not only should it not be #1, its not even really a breakthrough at all.

People like to look for reasons as to why they lost. They have no idea really that the fact is that Michael Phelps for example is a machine... the guy is litterally a damn fish who trains all day every day and has a carb burning diet that could make an elephant fat.

Anything to shave off tenths of a second counts.

Apple App Store, #1? OK Wired you can go f*ck yourselves now.

HOW THE FUCK IS THAT A TECHNOLOGICAL BREAKTHROUGH?! The single fact that that shit is on the list is outrageous let alone it being #1 and therefore higher on the table than memristors... how ignorant and greedy (*coughpayoffs*cough*) can they be? Not to mention memristors are only #5 for the only thing that will truly revolutionize the World.

App Store #1 and mighty iPhone praising, it's pretty obvious they're either biased Apple fanbois or Apple's bitches (paid). Worthless.

From the article said:
Did it have anything to do with Michael Phelps' amazing eight Olympic gold medals? Probably not, as nearly every swimmer at the Games was wearing a Speedo suit.

They never said that...

Wow I was just about to double post after reading the rest of the article (since you can't edit). The fucking App store #1. Flexible displays, #10. An online store, #1. Memristor, #5. AN ONLINE STORE, TOP TECHNOLOGY BREAKTHROUGH OF 2008! They might be Apple biased...

And yet the world has never seen a bluetooth headset that doesn't have a blinking blue LED on it...
