STEAM Turning into CRAP?

I purchase most of my games on STEAM and have been preaching to anyone who would listen that STEAM is the way to game.
Lately, every game I try to purchase they decline my credit card and then ask me to sen them the same fucking info through their support site.
They then "authorize" my credit card and I can purchase the game.
What the hell is up with them?
A growing system fucks up more often then a small one?
Has EA taken over and since they can't do their jobs?
WHAT IS GOING ON?
It's driving me nutty and making me a bit sour on the whole STEAM concept.
Anybody else enjoying the Holidays with STEAM?

Haven't had any issues with payments with them, and I've bought a lot of games and gifts on Steam this month.

I had the same thing happen to me the last time I tried to buy a game on steam. It made no sense. I didn't bother with going through support though I just used paypal with the exact same credit card steam had just denied and it worked fine.

That was about a month ago. Hopefully they have resolved whatever issue they are having. When did it last happen to you?

Haven't had any problems with them any PayPal.

just add your CC to a paypal account and pay that way. Much easier IMO.

It happened today and two weeks ago when I bought GTA4.
Maybe it's my bad luck acting up web style.....

I've purchased a shitload of stuff from them using my CC over that past couple months. No issues whatsoever.

How is it much easier to go into a website, create an account, put a CC card on it, than just typing your CC into Steam alone? You're adding two extra steps.

And I never had a problem, use CC for Steam

You do that once then when you go to buy another game a month later you just type in a username / password and thats it.. or type in your name, address, area code, CC # etc..

I have no problem making payment on Steam. I use paypal and it is link to my CC.

Thanks for the advice!!
I used my PayPal account and everything works fine!!!
I guess STEAM is never going to see my CC again...

Never once had an issue purchasing anything from Steam. Most recent purchase was L4D and it went through without an issue. Perhaps you're just overlooking some detail.. like say, an updated address, phone number, etc?

I'm suer that's not the case, I checked with my CC company and all my details were spot on.
I really can't say what the hell is going on, I can only say that it's been quite annoying...

Steam is great. Stop complaining. Picked up Prey for $12 last night. :)

Actually, steam is doing the same thing for me on two different CCs, and I'm positive my info is correct since I bought a game from them two days ago ;)

Not sure what it is, just going to use Paypal. If it still does it in a few weeks, I'll contact their support.

Well, seems paypal also isnt working for me on either CC or my checking account. "An authorization issue" or something like that.

Do you have a suffix in your name or middle initial on your card? I noticed the Steam CC name fields are for a fist name box and a last name box. I usually have trouble on forms that don't just let you enter your name as it appears on the card all in one box.

I would bet the problem was with the credit card company. Especially considering how busy they are this time of year.

i swear, every time theres a problem with steam, theres always threads that go STEAM SUCKS, or STEAM HAS FAILED or STEAMS TURNING INTO CRAP, seriously, why cant u all just post a normal thread like "Help, CC wont work in Steam" or stuff like that? Do you have to seriously bitch like a whiny 11 yr old?

STEAM is now an acronym as well it seems

Not PEBKAC, Steam has this issue every so often. It happens. Usually you need to wait a day or two and try again and it will go through. If you want to get a deal that will end before the day is out you'd probably need to put a ticket in to "hold" your purchase price so you can say "Hey, I tried to buy this while it was on sale but couldn't, you guys need to give me the sale price today".

I plan on making a "Steam works flawlessly for me" thread in the next couple days to break the trend. :D

My personal favorite issues with CC processing:

- Too many chargebacks from that card issuer means all of them have to be verified manually for a period of time. Seriously.
- Somebody decided to get picky as to whether your address at 123 ANYWHERE LN is "LN" or "LN." This happens to me a lot.
- No middle initial on your card? They want it anyways. Why? I don't know.
- OMG FRAUDULENT CHARGES FROM YOUR ZIP CODE. VERIFY EVERYTHING! See also chargebacks.

None of these, you'll note, are due to Steam. They are purely due to issuers, credit card company policies, and similar. Policies from Visa and MC are insanely strict - a certain percentage of chargebacks will mean that you cannot accept cards from that company any more. Certain types of fraud, get the insanely wide net cast at them.

For everyone doubting, I have verified my details with my Credit Card company and asked if they've refused any charges - they said NO, and my details were spot on.
This is a STEAM issue, ever since the web page billing went live (with no direct connection to the steam client), these issues seem to appear.
For all of those claiming I'm whining, we'll talk when you have your CC refused twice by the same company after you had the issue cleared up once.
As for the title, I think it's legit and was PHRASED AS A QUESTION, meaning I want opinions and personal experiences reflected ion your posts.
Now I know some of you may not be able to not turn this into some kind of personal fiasco, so all of you can BITE ME.
As for the rest, thanks for your comments, as I've said the PayPal method sorted it out for me (with ...SURPRISE the same f'ing CC).

The only problem I had with steam and my CC is for some reason steam only accepts my CC when I use my address before I moved. Even though my CC is issued from my bank and has my newest address on file, steam will not accept my transaction with my new address.

I've disliked steam since day1; however I don't have "issues with it". It's just that I preferred WON, over steam. If you even know what that is, I don't know.

Steam is definitely better than WON now. In the early days steam was just awful and friends didn't work for years but now there isn't much to not like. Beats using HLSW like I used to back in the WON days.

So it does seem the issue is account-specific, I went on a friends account and purchased the games for myself as a gift. Not an issue with my card or my information, as it all went through fine on another account. Something with the way orders are going through on steams/valves end.

That said, I do <3 steam, and this is, honestly, the only issue I can ever remember having with it.

Did it for me yesterday. I just started my order over and it worked fine the second time.

Bought 4 games in the last 2 months, no problems here. I buy mine through the Steam client.
