WOTLK launch = WoW numbers jump to 11.5 million

To all you naysayers and WoW haters out there, you can hate the success that is WoW all you want, but were just gonna keep growing.;)

http://www.blizzard.com/us/press/081121.html

Was a thread about this really necessary? Sales figures do not dictate the quality of a game. If so then the Sims franchise would be the greatest game ever created and the pinnacle for which all game developers strive to reach. Having said that yes WotLK was a quality expansion up until end game where it left much to be desired. All they provided us with was a rehashed raid dungeon, Naxx, and two uneventful dragon raids. Accounting for the quick leveling pace Blizzard should be ashamed at the state of their end game. Not to mention all the rampant balance issues that still plague a four year old game.

Was this the controversial post you were hoping for? ;)

WoW is like a malignant tumor. It keeps spreading through rank and file cells eating away at the $$$ and the productivity of the country.

Do a good thing with your time, go get drunk or something :D

Bit of a cliche but I like the saying that WoW is like crack, it's just so true.

Playing through it is very enjoyable and immersive, but it doesn't go well with real life, and the game never ends.

When you find you have nothing left to do and subsequently 'wake up' from the immersion, you get depressed, but your consecutive action is to reroll another character to get the feeling back.

When you finally quit you cringe when you realize you've wasted 2+ years of your life on it.

When you've quit "normal" people start respecting you more.

When you've quit it's easier to manage a job and basically a life, because you dont have to raid all night or level that character another 5 levels.

The worst part is that WoW is targeted at kids who go to school to secure their future. On some level that's not even funny.

Hahahaha its so true.

We need like, Wow-Addicts Anonymous (WAA? WOWAA? someone come up with a clever acronym please). They can have online meetings. Have to stay at least 5 mouse-clicks away from anything having to do with warcraft.

I have no sympathy for those who don't have any self control, let alone responsibility and accountability for their actions and decisions. Black and white thinking is your own damn fault.

I did my mmo "hardcore" crack addiction years ago with DAOC that you speak of and I learned alot as a result from the "trial and error". Now I just play WoW when I wish to and pretty much just play weekends. I learned "moderation".

Theres alot of other things IMO you could waste your life on, gambling for one.

WoW is such an easy game its no wonder why it appeals to the masses. It takes no thinking or skill whatsoever.

I see the "hate on it because it's popular" "non-conformists" are out in full force.

Cool, still leveling my toon at lvl 74, finally got to see Dalaran, cool! Plus I got a Winter Veil achievement there! Woo hoo.

i wish my account would either get banned or someone would buy it from me. i was clean for over a year then build a new system and said well ill try out the new expansion. i really hate the game but for some reason it still calls to me.

When you play this game, try asking yourself this question.

: And then what?

Everything you do in that game, ask yourself that question.

You got yourself a Winter Veil. Congrates...."And then What?" You go on a raid? Again, Congrates...."And then What?" You reach level 75. Congrates....."And then What?"

See the pattern there dude?

next time you play CS, or L4D or Mass Effect, or GTA etc etc etc ask yourself this question

:and then what?

Jesus christ you people act like they ship heroin with WoW.

If your addicted to a game, its NOT the games fault, seek fucking help because you need it.

Thats 11.5 million pathetic lives more taken then there should be.

Just for the record, I agree with you 100%.

[H] is worse on the social life than WoW is!

Go out with friends and have fun or save up for i7 setup... :p

WoW is such an easy game its no wonder why it appeals to the masses. It takes no thinking or skill whatsoever.

Thats what people who suck at pvp say.
By the way. Wow ruined my life. It held a gun to my head and told me to ruin my relationship with my wife. It pinned me to the ground and injected heroin on my veins, making me addicted to it and making it so I had to keep going back to it for my fix.. and it put pins in my eyes so I couldn't pay attention in class, making me fail out of college. Its all Wow's fault.. Not mine..

To those of you who were/are addicted to wow: Were you addicted to the social aspect of it or the actual grinding?

I can kinda understand the former but the latter will never make sense to me.

Wheres the fun in wasting your time leveling up/acquiring items for your avatar? I just dont see it. Its why I hate mmos/rpgs.

I mean, I wasted a lot of my life on competitive games. And improving your aim or reaction time may not help you much in the grand scheme of things. But at least its a skill you've actually honed. It'll stick with you and carry over to other games, etc.

But where's the sense of accomplishment from leveling up your avatar?

AND THEN YOU WIN THE GAME!!!!!

AND THEN YOU PAID 50-60 DOLLARS FOR 8 HOURS OF GAMEPLAY!!

I've played WoW since launch and up to 2 months ago and I'm starving for it. It's a great game and there's always stuff to do, it doens't end after I kill a boss, it keeps going. Only reason I quit was all my hardcore PvP friends quit after BC more or less and it just got boring, and I wasn't good with making PvP friends afterwards, I had too high expectations from people without the gear to prove it. And I also recently got a PS3, if I went back to WoW now I would have wasted close to 500 dollars on a console I'm not going to touch until I quit again.

It's an amazing set of pixels. People who jump around on their mount in Ironforge/Orgrimmar for 8 hours a day and don't do anything are the ones that come on forums and complain how stupid the game is, or roll 20 alts and expect to somehow level them all at once to max level within a reasonable amount of time.

Here's a good formula to have fun in WoW: Start ONE character, decide which class suits best for you (hint: don't listen to anyone on any forum about how gimp a class is. Dumbasses play every class and claim they are all gimp), and level it up to 80, get some welfare gear, and then decide "Did I enjoy killing the opposite faction while leveling, did it make my heart race?" or "Did I enjoy slaying monsters in dungeons with friends?" and then follow that path.

C'mon.. I want to hear from the people who blame their life's problems on Wow, not their poor decisions.

What was the point of this thread? I'm sure most of us already know that WoW is successful. And if you don't, hell, you must be more of a recluse than these WoW players. Most Blizzard products end up becoming successful.

Sounds like you're a Blizzard Fanboy, or more accurately, a WoW Fanboy.

EDIT: And I'm not hating on WoW. I just think your post was pointless. I used to play WoW pretty hardcore (raided 6 days a week). WoW's great...I just managed to get over the addiction years ago.

QFT. I hate wow threads (as you can tell by me lashing out).
Wait a second, we have more breaking news.. Chocolate tastes good. Thats right folks, you heard it here first. Chocolate is delicious. Who'd a thunk it.

lets say that they have half of the subscribers they claim and only have 5.5 million....5.5 million people dont keep paying $15 a month for a shitty game that they get no enjoyment out of.

hate on wow all you want, it is the mmo that EVERY other mmo wishes it could be, many have tried and all of them have failed.

Its ok if you dont like wow, not everyone does. but jesus you wow haters are bigger nut jobs than the wow fanboys

AND THEN YOU PAID 50-60 DOLLARS FOR 8 HOURS OF GAMEPLAY!!

Umm, Nope!!!

I dont pay retail for games, esp when they first come out. In fact, last time I bought a game at full price was when Orange Box came out. My last game I purchased a week or so ago was Spellforce 2 and its expansion which was on sale thru STEAM for bout $15 bucks and I still havent played it yet.

If I was to purchase a NEW game at full price, Id end up spending more than 8 hours playing it too since I have a job, wife and 2 kids, I have a window of maybe an hour or so here and there to play a game at all, so the $50 bucks for a game that you CAN WIN would last me quite a long time.

That being said, I still havent even cracked open the HL series yet and how long has it been since Orange Box came out??? Id say I got my money's worth out of that $50 bucks I spent. Wasnt it a year ago last month it came out?

Soo, lets see here....$50 bucks on one game thats lasted me over a year and still not gone thru it all..

vs.

$200 a year for WoW.

Hell, Im still playing thru Diablo II, which only cost me $10 bucks and Ive had that for over a year too.

Check other WoW threads and you will see....I always thought the game looked really cool and I played it for 2+ years when it first came out (off and on), but NOTHING ever changed in it. As soon as you got some killer drop, be it armor or weapon etc...you think you can go out and devastate critters with it, but then you level up and find out that drop that took ages to get is now meaningless and useless cause it basically does the same thing your lower powered weapon, armor did for your past level.....Rinse repeat.

Its just mundane.

When I play a game, I like to have some sort of accomplishment to satisfiy my time spent. WoW doesnt do that. Its a merry-go-round with pretty colors.

FYI: Whatever other arguments you may/may not have - that's a weak one. That's like arguing "so what if I beat my wife and sold my kids into slavery, I could be worse - I could be Hitler."

I mean, yeah, obviously, it's ALWAYS possible to be worse. (Pretty much always, anyway)

The question you have to ask is not 'what worse could I be doing with my time', but, instead, 'is this the best thing I could be doing with my time'.

And in that respect, MMOs fall somewhat short of, say, working some after-hours to finish that project ahead of time instead of missing the deadline. Or taking a class or two to improve your skills, or just for your own education in history or science. Or reading an important work of literature. Or learning a new language.

Is playing WoW better than those things? THAT is the question you should be asking, not 'what is worse than WoW that I could be doing instead?'

As I lay dying on my death bed someday, I have no problem saying that some of my fondest life memories will be gaming related. Do your life your way, i'll do mine my way, see you in end.

It seems funny to me when you say "we"

Its the game that will keep growing, the developers and publisher bank will keep growing

You as a player is not part of that. You'll only spend more money and time, not gaining anything :p

But I'm not complaining. The more kids dedicate their life to MMO games, the better it is for me:D

What a dark statement to say???

I believe you mentioned you were at level 74. Unless you clock in many hours at one sitting just about everyday, if not everyday....Id have to say youve been playing WoW for at least 6mths to a year.

I would like to hear your comments on this game in one more year Bro.

On another note, since you brought up LIFE. I am a bit curious...if ya dont mind answering....truthfully.....How old are ya....married/not married....kids/how many and what your occupation is.....

I'l start.....Ive already mentioned Im married and have 2 kids.....One is 3, the other is 5, boy/girl respectively...And Im a woodworker, but cabinet installing pays my bills.

Im just curious Bro....dont have to answer if ya dont want to.

Peace

I've been playing wow since friends and family beta of the original..

I'm 39, married over 18 years, have a 20 yr old daughter, I've been employed full time since before I started playing, I'm the customer service manager for a large web hosting firm in Houston, yes playing wow has turned me into a burden on society and I should seek help.

The problem is, you people that hate wow so much assume that EVERY person playing MUST be some low life reject living in their parents basement eating thru a tube and shitting on themselves because they cant stop playing.

Sure there are people addicted to wow, but its not the games fault, its not the developers fault. Its the person with no self control or will power and an addictive personalities fault.

If you dont like wow fine, dont read the thread and for sure dont post spewing your BS.

Hmmm, Ive got to guess this is in response to my above questions to the OP??? I "try" not to presume anything till I KNOW, which is why I asked.

BTW, I live in Houston too :). If you live in a Newmark, Meritage, Trophy, David Weekley, Ashton Woods, Beazer home and recently bought it within that past 4-5 years, You have a 1 in 20 chance I installed your cabinets, hehehehehe.

Wait a second, we have more breaking news.. Chocolate tastes good. Thats right folks, you heard it here first. Chocolate is delicious. Who'd a thunk it.

Can't eat chocolate. The caffeine gives me headaches.

I don't really see what the big deal is. Didn't they just open up servers in Mexico? Whoopty-do. A quarter million new Spanish playing the game, along with another quarter million Chinese gold farmers. Hardly something to brag about. It's been shown that the numbers in the USA and Europe are not increasing, they are in fact FLAT.

After you see everything, WoW is just like every other game: a boring waste of time. I've been through every endgame raid currently in the game now and I don't feel like waiting for the next patch to have some new content to beat my head against like a brick fucking wall for a few months. People who are able to keep up the grind for long periods of time after they have been as far as they will ever go in a game like WoW have some serious problems.

you guys seem to think accomplishing anything in real life means more than doing it in wow.

either way, you are a infinitely tiny spec. in the end it all means nothing anyway.

Just because you only have an hour at a time to spend on gaming does not mean it should take you longer than others to finish a game. Are you implying that either you or casual players in general are worse at games than people who play them through quickly? You act like you spend SO long on each game yet if you aren't terrible at gaming or have a bad memory you should not be much behind someone who plays it through quickly. I applaud you for regulating your gaming though... just because you have a job/wife/2 kids does not mean you still could not game over 20 hours a week. You could easily neglect other areas in your life to game. I know of one woman who plays an mmo and her character is ALWAYS logged in and she's on the game like 18 hours a day. She has 2 kids who are both special needs children and she appears to barely take care of them and lives off the government support. I would NEVER want to end up like that and have heard of too many wow horror stories of it sucking peoples lives away.
