A new study suggests that a high portion of the women that play MMOs are looking for a romantic partner when they play and, oh yeah… they are five times more likely to be bisexual as well.

After tallying the results of over 2,400 completed web-based surveys, researchers told BBC News that females make up roughly 40% of the EverQuest II "gaming population." Furthermore, those women were found to display "an unusually high level of bisexuality," beating out the rate of "general population" bisexuality by more than five times.

In related news, a recently released study found that 90% of MMO players' fingers have a distinct Cheetoe smell.
 
Hmmm ... I can't think of anything witty to say. I guess that's kinda hot?
 
You know... I'm not surprised. Of the 6 women I actually still talk to from my days in WoW, 5 of 6 are bi. I assumed it was just coincidence.
 
Everytime you see "bisexual" in the article, substitute it with "hideous" or "obese." Possibly.. likely.. true, and funny.
 
Doesn't surprise me. I'd bet a ton of those are "goth" chicks as well.
 
ROFL, you guys don't get it. I have seen quite a few women that do play wow... and trust me the reason they are bi-sexual is because they need to be just in order to get some. These women will take what action they can get from just about anyone (which are very few) willing to give it to them.

I have only seen a few attractive girls play WoW, most of them didn't play it very long. But I know looks aren't everything... I have a lot friends that have play WoW and a few of them have met and even gotten girl friends through it, but I tell you my friends must be blind...

ya I'm an asshole sorry forums ladies..

I was going to say that too.

How are they doing the survey? Is it a simple "Male/Female" check box, along with a "Gay/Bi/Straight" checkbox?

Because if so, I can see right off the bat I'd find it amusingly hilarious to check "Bi Female" if faced with that quandary.

His post doesnt say anything is "wrong" with them, just saying they're likely Goth.

True story: I was in a guild in WoW on my Priest and the leader asked me to marry him and another chick in the guild....

... I had to /gquit after that.

The same thing that's wrong with the "men" that listen to emo music, wear makeup, color their hair pink or lime green, and dress really bad.
 
Well that's interesting - I've hung out with four bi girls, and each one of them played an MMO (one FF XI, one Everquest, two WOW). I never put much thought to it, but now ... well heck. Time to join an MMO and a local guild/clan/whatever. And wasn't there a story of a sex guild somewhere...?
 
In other news, half of female gamers are bi. Surprise.

Variety is the spice of life baby, hence why I always play "ladies" in my MMO. Opens up new "possibilities" ;)

Yeah, but that was back in the college days for me, ok for fun, but hard to pull off long term...

Another reason why this may not be super surprising is that alot of female gamers willing to discuss their sexuality online are of high school and college-age, and thus more likely to be in the experimenting stage of their sexuality.

Known plenty a girl (or guy for that matter) to go 'bi' for those years (can be 5-6 years for some) and then settle back into lesbian/gay or straight. It's unclear from the article if 'general' population includes our grandparents and grandchildren... or if general population is normalized based upon some age factor. I'm willing to bet the former... in which case we can easily say that correlation is nice, but not necessarily meaningful... unless of course the researchers are just trying to find a new place to meet bi chicks, in which case I suggest they try the nearest sorority house or college dormitory first - insert random drunk college chicks with low self esteem gone wild comment.
 
My ex gf was an avid WoW player...and extremely good looking. She hinted at bi-sexuality as well...never indulged though :(
 
I have a first date on Friday with a woman who plays MMOs . . . I may have to do some undercover investigation on behalf of the forumz.

sure there are, they're all over at oxygen.com, lifetime.com and ivillage.com

now i would suspect that there are not many chix on this site...its probably representative of the female technical folks in IT, which, there are not many. they're usually project managers or team leads on the high end, or phone support reps on the low end.

too pale, and they only come out at night.

I'd take a goth chic though if she was tall and reasonably fit. I have to duck to get through doorways, so I like the tall ones :D
