I have been running this board for almost 2 weeks flawlessly, but ran into my first issue tonight and was wondering if anyone else has seen this. I am running the system at stock speeds (3.2ghz, ram at 1600) and stock voltages. When I turned it on a few minutes ago, it would start for a few seconds, then power off and restart. It did this several times until it finally booted and gave me an "overclock failed" notice and reset my ram to 1333. The only thing I have done is swap out my 4870X2 for an EVGA 260GTX this afternoon.

Any thoughts?

I'd like to see some hard facts on this being the case, as I just assembled my I7 box last night with an i7 940, P6T Deluxe OC Palm, and 6 GB of Tri-Channel Corsair Dominator 1600 Mhz... all settings on auto except the ram speed itself, which is set manually to 1600 Mhz.

And I have no issues, at all.

Ya i get something similar with mine, i went for a higher overclock than the "dummy" setting on my evga and got a wonderful repeated beeping until i powered down and reset the bios. Apparently these boards dont give the ram enough voltage at "auto". Mine is only giving 1.5v when set to auto.

Maybe I'm just lucky then? I'm not on the latest BIOS but it's 0804 I think? Perhaps a difference there?

Generally speaking it's better to set your voltages static anyway instead of on Auto but I just don't believe based on one statement above that you HAVE to.

The issue is not with the board, it's user error.

You must manually set your DRAM voltage to 1.65

Sure, right. The ram is rated @ 1.50 volts at 1333 and 1600 speeds. Setting it to 1.65 is not the answer, as that is NOT what the ram is rated to run. So, it would NOT be considered user error. Setting it to 1.65, however, would be. Thanks, but no thanks.

As an FYI, the problem has not shown itself since that one time.

Yes it is user error. You purchased INCOMPATIBLE memory. Way to do your research....:eek::eek:

Do you even know what the hell you are even talking about? Quit thread crapping and go away. The ram is not incompatible. Do you know that 1.65volts is the absolute MAX that you can set your ram to on core i7 boards? It's not a mandatory setting, it is the MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE by Intel's specs. Get your facts straight before posting nonsense. Now, back to the AMD forum with you...

wow....I certainly know more about what I'm talking about than you sir.

How about you call up an actual tech and discuss these things with them as I did. Educate yourself before shouting nonsense at people who know more than you.

Wow. "I called up a tech". Calling the Geek Squad at Best Buy doesn't count. Nice try, though, although posting that you supposedly called a "tech" doesn't really help out your case here. You are posting misinformation, it's that simple.

Now, onto some facts for you. G-Skill F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ triple channel ram. Rated 1.5-1.6 volts per the manufacturer. Per XMP-1600 profile, 1.50 volts. Sooooo, where does the manufacturer, or the XMP profile, or JEDEC spec (which is 1.50 volts as well, which is being read from cpu-z v 1.49) say that I should be setting it to 1.65 volts? Wait, it DOESN'T???? Wow, maybe the Geek Squad isn't the best place to get your "tech" advice from.

Now, run along...

Hahaha! Your argument is cracking me up..." Back to the AMD forum with you." Hahaha

Not to drag this off topic, but may I ask why you swapped out the 4870x2? I have the 920, P6T, and plan on a 4870x2, but if there are issues, let me know. On the other hand, have you "tried" setting your ram voltage manually at 1.65 to see what happens?

I only swapped out the 4870X2 because I wanted to see what a GTX280 could do. Well, I think I will be back to a 4870X2 here shortly. So, no, I had no issues with the X2 at all, just like to try out new stuff sometimes. As far as bumping up the voltage, like I said, I haven't had that issue since it originally happened, so there has been no need to try it out.

Try running memtest for awhile to rule out memory problems. Ya never know, you could have 1 weak bank, that is causing these problems.

My system arrived yesterday. I have the same memory with Asus P6T mobo.
Once I build it and try to OC it, I'll let you know if I find anything. I also plan to OC it to 1600Mhz with default voltage. Would be nice if you can get it resolved before then as well! :)

Hmm, interesting I am having the same issue with my P6T WS edition. Once powered up no issues at all, stable as anything, but to get it to boot it sometimes goes through power cycling. I am wondering if it is a power supply issue - I am running only low graphics (a 6660GT and a 5200FX) on a Tagan 480W, but have 2 SCSI disks and 3 SATA - the total power draw on my older 820D was only 280W at max, so I am not sure how this would be 200W more.

Also it has major issues with any of Vistas power states (i.e. it blue screens after coming back from a sleep state), interstingly though I have feeling all these issues started after I put SP1 on it. (although that would not explain the posting to BIOS issues - although this maybe the case if Vista has not properly shutdown and tried to do one of it's low power states).

The RAM is OCZ DDR3 PC3-10666 platinum edition which is rated at 1.65V - but at the moment this is set to auto - maybe I will try forcing it (since it is rated at 1.65V).

I've OC'd my system to 3.6Ghz (180 BCLK and 1444Mhz DRAM speed) and seemed to run fine. I ram prime 95 for about 30 min (no patience!) and ran fine overnight. This morning I ran some FarCry2 benchmarks, then came to work. Then my wife called me saying the system crashed with "Overclock failed" message on reboot :(

I've set everything else to AUTO (Disabled Turbo throttling), but I'm gonna try upping vcore and memory voltage a bit this evening. Oh yeah.. I got 1000W PSU, so I don't think shortage of power is the problem. I've also upgraded the BIOS to newest version 1003.

OK I've increased CPU voltage to 1.35 and it's running fine now. My RAM stays at 1444Mhz with default voltage. Have been running Prime 95 for three hours yet no crash.

While I don't have an i7 rig I do run a [email protected] with 8 gigs of Patriot memory so I'm kinda in the ballpark.

I/you will find that switching video cards from one manufacturer to another sometimes will give your board bios fits. I went with a weekend benching 4870's, 260's, 4870x2, 280 and found at one point had to reset my bios back to stock and reload all my overclock settings to get a post. (a couple of times)
This is also on an Asus board..Maximus Formula II so I would just set up everything as you had it before the vid card change and not worry.

Good luck to you

Primet
