EVGA first to release GTX260 55nm

Ouch. Unless there's a large performance gain from the die shrink not shown by the unchanged clock speeds it looks like a skipable revision just based on price alone.

hopefully it drops soon, i was gonna pull the trigger on my i7 rig boxing day and i still dont know which version of the 260 to get... theres sooo many :(

X2, there shouldn't be much of a difference overclocking wise as its only a 10nm difference and the 55nm version cant handle as many volts as the 65nm version.

Sure it will, it consumes less power which results in less heat. Less heat means better overclocking.

I think this is just the intro price, it'll lower within a few weeks.

The strip of red is dashing!

Mine eyes weep now! Should I keep the 4870 1GB, or buy this once the price stabilizes?
Decisions, decisions...

Decisions... consequences.

These types of deal in which X company has rights or gets to be the first to release a card probably involve some kind of $$$ negotiations

isn't the idea of a die shrink to make it cheaper?

Yes, but they're the first to the party, so it's understandable they'd charge more now.

Wasn't there an Inno3D card from Japan that was out a week ago in 55nm form? The converted price was $390 (US).

I expect that once a full lineup of cards is out there we'll see the savings. This is the card I plan to get for my new build soon here, well not this specific card, but a 55nm GTX 260.

The 8800GT carried a large premium for a while until the stock issue was sorted out, I got in on the [H]+XFX deal for an overclocked one for 280, and back then that was a 'sane' price, they were easily 320+ at the egg and such.

If you need an gtx 260 card, go with evga or bfg. They both have a step up program and lifetime warranties. Good luck guys on ur christmas builds.

Strange it still has the exact same name....

the only difference is the size of the die, it has all the same specs otherwise, no real need for differentiation... it's not like this one magically gained performance by being smaller, it just has more headroom for the people that will extract it through overclocking.

does compusa/tigerdirect have a BFG gtx260 216 ?

If they do, can't seem to find it on their site...?

got money there or something?

why not try ncix or the egg or mwave?

So tax is a deal breaker compared to paying way more at compussr/tigerdefect?

it often costs less to order from tigerdirect with shipping than it is to pay for the product, shipping, and tax through the california based etailers.

Get the cheapest 260 you can get, the different verisons don't really make a big difference perfromance wise. Only two things I'd care about are price and what company, and the main thing is price.

i'd still pay for the service in case anything went wrong, but maybe that's just me.

For comparison sake, the GTX 280 same edition:

newegg - 349.75
compusa - 333.98

savings of 15.77
both have the same shipping of ~9. if compusa had the card I wanted, I would have ordered when they had $2 shipping, making the difference 22.77, which is pretty damn good. ALSO, with $20 cashback with paying with paypal, its becomes a savings of $42.77 So yes, its worth it ordering from compusa

So, final prices would be:

newegg - 349.75
compusa - 306.98

Plus, after 30 days, you RMA through company.

So yeah, tax sucks

edit: PLUS, I called tigerdirect on blackfriday to cancel an order because it was cheaper elsewhere (actually on their own site, compusa) and they just gave me the difference, so customer support is A+

edit: found the card on compusa, time to order....but I digress....

Awesome! Now they just need to get some stock, and to drop the price a few bucks. These will be going in my new build as soon as I get my case sorted out.

maybe i should try them again, but i got shafted on 100$ in MIR from them and the CSR told me too bad and hung up...

I'd go with the XFX Black Edition over both the EVGA and BFG. It has a transferable double lifetime warranty.

It's basically too little too late really. 65nm 192 GTX260 is like $100 cheaper and will give the same performance any ways.
