Digitally Assisted Billiards

Pretty cool. Idea not so new, and why dont they get some one who can acutally play?

you know, as much as that guy sucks, the invention is pretty fuckin cool. its like the rubber bumpers at bowling alleys... if this guy pantents a cheap way to make this idea work i could see him making millions selling them to billiard halls. wouldnt it be cool to go down to the pool hall with your kids and actually have a way for them to understand whats going on?

"Pretty cool. Idea not so new, and why dont they get some one who can acutally play?" They're working on their spelling first. :) Nice project working with available hardware!

Good catch! Got me on a typo. Thanks Susie.

Ahh... my favorite class at Georgia Tech. Embedded design. And yeah, this is definitely not a new idea. My roommate and his group designed a system like this last Spring for their senior design project, which is probably where these guys got their idea, but this is a much better implementation. I believe there was also a professor at GT that designed an implementation of this several years ago, but I've never seen that one in action.

rofl its pretty awesome, but in order to make use of it you have to be able to make a shot that follows the line...
You also need to know where, and how to put proper english on the ball in order set yourself up for the next shot. I think I will stick with own abilities to judge how a shot should go. If anything I would use that system show the layout, trajectories, of trick shots and not use it for normal play.

Wow its Quantum Leap! uhh anyone remember the episode when he had to shoot pool, so (the holopgrahic guy.. whats his name.. the priest of battlestar ha!) holo-graphically projected the trajectories onto the table?

But yeah I'l agree with the comments here, someone that can play needs to try it out.
