Project: PrometheusCu

Get a Dell Perc 5/i or Perc 6/i, faster and cheaper than the aforementioned raid cards. Also can run 8 drives if needed.

almost suggested this earlier today, but they aren't back facing ports, they come out on the top.

Hoorah!

My cable/tube sleeving has arrived - finally!
I will be using Nylon Multifilament sleeving - built to military grade specifications.
prometheus-sleeving-06.jpg

The 'wire harness' coming out the back of this machine will be manages with DuraWrap sleeving - made from ballistic nylon.
prometheus-sleeving-05.jpg

Here's my order, 2.5"ID durawrap, nylon multifilament sleeving (75' - 225' spools), and 4:1 heatshrink (25' - 50' spools).

Some crappy pics showing off the goods:

The quality of this stuff is incredible... and it's very hard to cut (w/o a hot knife). I'm positive that it will definitely suit the build.

I forgot to order 1" heatshrink (but compensated by adding it to my PerformancePCs order which should be here any day) so I can't jump right in and start sleeving my tubes just yet. But I am going to start sleeving the items that I can.

Thanks for reading, more coming soon.

Jeez...can't wait till you implement these. "hey nice sleeving job, how much did it cost you", "about $1000"...you keep surprising me.

I did a couple of short sleevings tests:
I sleeved the tubing and the anti-kink coils... the sleeving WORTH EVERY PENNY in my mind. The look turned out fantastic.

I'd like to hear your opinions on the look.

Thanks

its gonna have an awesome look, me myself would love if the tubes lit up and gives that cool light through the holes of the sleeving effect.

Keep up the good work

sleeving looks awesome, i think it will work great. They are doing the same thing in the car world to header's now. It really helps there, sure it will help a tun

I got the sleeving at www.cableorganizer.com - I'm not sure about colours.

I decided to do some test sleeving (after all I have a couple extra feet of sleeving).

Still missing the heatshrink, 'tidyness', clamps, and copper antikink rings.

hehe, I was getting too many 'brainless' comments from folk too lazy to read the text.

Thanks guys.

The ripples are anti-kink coils beneath the sleeving. This material doesn't ripple like that. As I stated before once the copper shrouds arrive the case will have a very different look - I'm just testing the materials, learning the best way to use them.

I did a quick sleeve job on a test cable. This 4conductor ribbon is a very tight fit inside the 1/4" sleeve.

simply beautiful, this is a very nice touch to an already perfect execution.

amazing work.

can't wait to see it all finished up with the clamps and such.

I get the feeling across my worklogs that some people don't understand that the majority of this case will be shrouded in laser etched, waterjet cut, copper plate.

I've taken the liberty of colouring my part diagrams, and illustrating what they will look like after bending, and assembly.

I hope this helps some of you visualize the final product.

Orange = Copper
Grey = Carbon Fiber

*click for big*

I hope that helps. =)

Thanks for reading.

He could wrap EL wire next to the anti kink coils on the tubes, don't know if it would look "right" though...

They do that to keep the heat in the headers, it helps with the scavenging effect of long tube headers, and keeps under hood temps lower... I don't think the same effect is desired here! :p
Nice clamps, are you going to see if he'd make them in copper? :D

I asked if he'd make them in Stainless Steel, Nickel, or Copper. I hope he will.

Wow, that's quite the mod. It's given me some good ideas for something I've had kicking around in the back of my head. Just need to figure out how to get it done without shelling out 15k. :D

Love the look of the sleeving, I just hope it doesn't become a dust magnet after running for a while once completed. Fabric can be quite tough to get dust out of.

@philodox - Thanks a lot mate, and goodluck to you.

@cnealjr - Thanks, your statement made me curious so I found some dusty top shelves around my house and rubbed a sample in the dust... it's not very clingy, and wipes off easily. I can see it being a problem without proper maintenance, though not any more of an issue than any other windowed PC.

@MurderCityDevil - Tonight there will be update, I'm expecting UPS to show up any minute now.

My MASSIVE Performance-PCs order came Firday but I was out of the house and missed it, so it's going to arrive today.

And my SSDs were shipped last week but NCIX was out-of-stock on 3 of 4 drives.
prometheus-damn-you-NCIX-1.jpg

NCIX wont be getting the others until the end of the week at the soonest... and I'm pissed off.
The delivery of the 1 drive is expected today however.

That sucks man.

On a positive note, I did beat Fallout 1. :D

I hope once everything comes in its smooth sailing! I really want to see this build finished!

@ZMTToxics - Time to move onto #2, I think it's a bit better and it stays 100% true to the orig.

The one drive has arrived, and so has my Massive Performance-PCs order

The parcels arrived today and I'm ecstatic... but I only got one pic taken before my camera died on me.

More pics coming once I get some more batteries tomorrow.

No mate it's actually a 2section couch, I'll post a pic later.

I found some batteries... I had a stash apparently (a stash of batteries, that is).
(Does anyone else here hide things on themselves and forget where?)

Many pics...

First up, G.Skill 64GB SSD - there are THREE more of these babies coming to me as soon as NCIX gets it's **** together.

Performance PC's did forget to pack my 10x female molex plugs, but can you blame them... there was over 200 items in that box afterall.

*PHEW* that's a lot of stuff... and I GET TO PUT IT ALL TOGETHER, jealous? I wouldn't be.. Hahaha.

That's all for today, I've been busy this evening fixing my Old Man's Laptop - and HP really really isn't bit on quick disassembly.

Thanks for reading, tune in this evening for some progress.

DAMN DAMN DAMN!!!

Does anyone have a trick for crimping molex pins for an idiot who forgot to order a crimping tool?

(I've just now ordered a crimper from PPCs, but that'll take a week+)

I believe a "duh" is in order. haha

damm man thats alot of stuff. everytime i see a ssd it makes me go want to buy one as a boot drive

but then my comp will bottlneck it like everything else

haha keep up the good work and the pics coming

Very small pair of needle nose pliers, and a lot of patience. You might also want to try and solder the wire and pin once you have them crimped. I never trust a crimped joint without using crimpers.

NO! Don't, I tried that, it doesn't work nearly as well as the real crimper, the real one rolls the tabs in, instead of just smashing them together, it's worth the wait. I used a pliers once, all the wires came out with only a little tug, even after soldering [it annealed the little tabs that hold the end into the plastic connector, and they bent backwards...]

It looks real good so far...

If you correctly solder the wires to the pins they will hold. I've used this method wiring our FSAE racecar. It works on AMP, WeatherPak, Deutsch, etc.. connectors. In the event you do not have a crimper, this is acceptable practice. But if you can wait, crimp.

@Whoodie - That's exactly what I was thinking, I just wanted to see if there was any DiY method of crimping. Thanks mate.

I started wiring my GTX280's tonight.
First I soldered the pins into place, because I didn't want to wait for the crimper to arrive.
I also sleeved the ribbon cable style wires with my Nylon Multifilament sleeving.

Believe it or not but these power lines will pretty much be the ONLY VISIBLE POWER LINES when the build is done.

The tubing is not complete , and all the heatshrinking is temporary, also the hose clamps will be swapped out.

Here is step 1 in the wiring puzzle:
I crossed the wires like this so make bending them around the GFX card easier.
